1 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

The abs and brake lights come on. The brakes have been checked and our mechanic informed us they are fine. The indicator lights come on once the car has warmed up or it is rainy or hot outside. This problem has been going on for approximately 3-4 years.

2 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

My Ford winstar has had abs problems off and on for a year now, no 1 can fix it. I have spent around $1000. 00 trying to fix this issue. Now my odometer & speedometer isn't working. I have been told that this is a problem with Windstars and it is a combo of the 3 not working together.

3 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

My instrument panel keeps going crazy. The rpm needle is now pointing down into the dash. The speedometer usually is not working correctly, it will say that I am doing 20 mph, when I am doing more like 45-50. The gas gauge sometimes says that it is on empty, when I have a full tank of gas. Sometimes the needles work, sometimes they don't (with the exception of the rpm needle. . . It hasn't moved from that buried in the dash spot for a couple of months now), sometimes the speedometer needle goes all the way to the right and then gets buried in the dash also, so far though, each time, it has came back. . . Even though it rarely registers even close to the correct speed. The repair for this is going to be about $700 is what I was told. I do not have that kind of money, and I am constantly praying that my 17 year old daughter who has to drive it sometimes, does not get into an accident because she is going too fast, and has no clue how fast she is actually going, or one of us may get a speeding ticket. I have looked at websites and seen that a lot of people are having these problems, so Ford should do the right thing and make a recall, before someone is seriously injured or even killed!!! also, not sure if it is related or not, but the abs light stays on.

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the anti lock brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that all of the gauges on the instrument panel would intermittently display inaccurate readings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was a factory defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000.

5 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, all of the lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle stalled and the steering wheel also seized. The contact was unable to maneuver to the shoulder so the vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that the electrical system was defective and needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced some unknown electrical components, but it did not remedy the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.

6 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle was covered with rust and shaking violently while driving. The brake pedal also extended to the floorboard when it was engaged. All of the gauges on the instrument panel fell below zero, the brake light illuminated while all of the lights on the instrument panel began to shut on and off. The rear axle was cracked on each end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who added two plates on each side of the axle. The contact referenced recall 10v385000 (suspension:rear:axle:non-powered axle assembly) & recall 11v030000 (structure: frame and members:underbody shields) but was concerned with the remedies and stated that they were inadequate. The contact asked the dealer if they could guarantee that the axle would not break with the two plates but received no guarantee. The manufacturer offered no assistance. The current mileage was 127,000. The failure mileage was unknown.

7 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I took my car in to Ford due to a failure in the instrument panel. My speedometer was spinning and "stuck" in an approximate 5:00 o'clock position. . . In addition, my prndl needle "stuck" in the park position and would not move. On top of this, my abs/brake lights were coming on and off sporadically and occasionally smelled like something burning. The Ford dealer replaced my instrument cluster and attempted to fix the abs/brake light problem. The "fix" didn't last more than two weeks. . . The abs/brake light is back to going on and off. According to the information that they gave me, the parts are no longer available for the abs/brake light repair. . . They assured me that my service brakes still worked. In the process, I have been told about recalls to the 2003 Ford Windstar for similar problems in other vehicles, however, I was told that these recalls didn't pertain to me. If I am experiencing the same problems that others are having and they are getting their repairs fixed at no charge to themselves, why am I paying for repairs for the same problem items??????? the sway bar links on my Windstar were also repaired along with the bushings. . . Again. . . Another recall that seems to have been issued but I was told that "it didn't apply to me". Now I have my Windstar in the shop, again, because the transmission pump exploded and damaged the transmission. No warning, no check engine light, nothing. How much of an additional expense is this going to be???? OH, I did receive the recall notice for the rear axle. . . That will be checked right after I get my car back from having the transmission repaired. Why are some vehicles covered and others aren't??? if it affects a 2003 Ford Windstar, it should be all of them, not just some of them.

8 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar lx. While the brake was applied the abs light illuminated. The failure occurred intermittently. She was also experiencing the failure with the speedometer while driving 45 mph; however, the odometer read 20 mph. The vehicle wasn't taken to the dealer. The vehicle wasn't repaired. The manufacturer will be contacted. The failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 94,450. Updated 02/07/11 the consumer stated the abs light stayed on most of the time. Updated 03/17/11.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

I was driving along and suddenly the emergency brake light, the abs light, the traction light, and check engine light came on. The odometer, and dashboard fuel info system didn't work, the speedometer stopped working. The words "check transmission" came on the info screen. I took the car to three different mechanics and no one can find anything wrong with my vehicle. I was told that the car is fine and they can't find any reason for these lights to be on or how to get them to go off.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Abs and brake warning lights intermittently go on and off for no apparent reason. It only happens when the engine is warm, or it is hot outside. No problems on cold days. Brakes appear to work fine. There also appears to be some leaking from the master cylinder, which continues to cause a short with the #10 fuse inside the cabin, causing the speedometer, odometer, transmission control, etc to stop functioning.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs and brake warning lights illuminated and would remain lit. As of September 17, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The front brakes were replaced, however, the failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 57,000 and current mileage was 67,300.

12 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2005

We own a 2003 Ford Windstar. Our instrument panel has gone haywire. The tachometer stopped working, it is completely off the scal. The speedometer does not work. Sometimes it registers that you are doing 50mph when the vehicle is not moving, and then will not register any speed when you are moving. You cannot determine what your speed is at any given time. My vehicle is beginning it's third week in the at the dealership. I was told that the parts were being held at the border in mexico. I have also been told that the part is on a "national backorder". At this point the dealership has determined that I need a new instrument cluster, which again, is at the mexican border, in customs, or so says the dealership.

13 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2004

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the lights on the instrument panel and the head lamps sporadically come on and off even when the car is not started. The brake lights sporadically come on and off as well even when the brakes are not being applied. The aircondtioner also failed and only comes out through the defroster vents. The vehicle has been taken to a local mechanic but a problem could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the air condition was repaired however it failed again soon after. The current and failure mileage was unknown. The vehicle has not been repaired as of current date. (SC) updated 06/16/08.
