Bought used vehicle from dealer and noticed the abs/brake light was constantly on. It was "fixed" before completing the purchase. Lasted for a few days before lights came back on and stayed on. Was told it not a big deal, so I didnt worry about it. Was not experiencing any other issues until 1. 5 years later when I turned the defrost fan on and it stalled the motor as I was traveling. The next weekend my husband wanted to look at it and after the van idled for a few minutes, turned on the defrost and it did not stall, called it a fluke until we popped the hood and had smoke coming out!.

Bought the van used in June 2012 with 139000 miles on it. The van started to stalls without warning right away. At a stop making a left hand turn, going down the road at 50 miles per hour. Have to coast to a stop hopeing not to get hit by traffic. Wait atleast 30 seconds then the van will start again. The used car dealer tried to repair it and thought they had but still stalls. Have had the van into several repair shops including the Ford dealership. Nothing comes up on the computer and the condition is worsen in warm weather. Have come close to being hit by traffic serveral times. Please help. This condition needs to fixed even if it doesn't support a recall.

Purchased the car used on 5/26/12, drove away from the dealership and the abs warning light and the break warning lights both came on, indicating issues with abs. Took it to the repair shop and was told that the abs module (??) was causing the issues. Car dealership and warranty company refused to cover it because it's an optional system. There appears to have been a recall for this but for some reason my car wasn't included - it was originally purchased in canada, so I'm not sure if that effects recall information. On 6/12/12 driving in to work the car suddenly lost speed while trying to accelerate on the highway. I was attempting to make it across 4 lanes and the car suddenly wouldn't go over 30mph - thankful there wasn't a lot of traffic but this could have caused an accident. Issues continue - car bucks and hesitates when trying to accelerate, there's often a loud pop (backfire?) from the engine when applying the gas pedal. Mechanic replaced seals and spark plugs in engine but we were told that the pcm (ecm?) was causing an electrical issue. Additional symptoms include reduced gas mileage, feeling like it's going to stall or move while at a stop (bucking like it's going to move forward even though brakes are applied) and reduced functioning in the a/c unit.

As I put the heat, defroster, or air conditioning on, it jerks alot and when I stop at a red light or stop sign it stalls. I have to put my 4 ways on, shut the van off, and restart it without the heat or air on. I feel this is a very drastic safety issue due to the fact if I'm driving on a highway and I stop at a red light and it stalls, if there is traffic behind me coming rapidly I can be rear ended and cause an accident. This has happened to me in the November incident. Luckily the light was still red.

Mechanic made the tune-up but still doing so, now it is doing a white cloud of steam, if I accel, it comes worst, should I wait for a recall or it's a normal problem?.

The contact owns 2003 Ford Windstar lx. The vehicle stalled intermittently and the lights on the instrumental panel illuminated while driving 10 mph. The contact performed routine maintenance on the vehicle. He replaced the alternator and the battery three times. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle didn't have a recall for the failure, but he should take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 75,000. The current mileage was 103,000.
Camshaft position sensor failed and was replace 3 times. Again it is shot. This causes the van to stall and have extremely high idle. Causes to stall usually while stopped, sometimes hesitates upon acceleration. Also: had to pull abs fuse due to pedal not depressing. Works excellent without abs. Also:transmission doesn't upshift when accelerating at high speeds/rpm's. Have to let off gas and repress for van to shift to next gear.
I have a 96 Ford Windstar with a 3. 8 liter engine and only 80,000 miles. Ford should be responsible for their actions for installing faulty head gaskets on these 3. 8 liter engines. There are many complaints about these engines head gaskets for earlier models as well as mine.

: the contact stated the vehicle stalls while driving on dry roads at 20 mph. If the vehicle sits for a few minutes, it restarts without a problem. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer several times. Each time the mechanic has been unable to duplicate the problem.
My 2000 Ford Windstar will stall, while driving, without warning causing a loss of power to the engine, braking system and steering system in a 3800 pound vehicle. This is an intermittent problem, but repeats itself every 2 or 3 weeks or so. The last time it caused my wife to transverse into a stop sign controlled intersection in a populated residential area of los angeles county without brakes or steering. It has happened 15 times to myself and my wife and twice to south bay Ford since approximately Nov of 2004. I believe that Ford dispatched engineers to south bay Ford in hawthorne California who stated that this is an issue of fuel tank design and is not correctable. South bay Ford and Ford motor company together appear to be ready to return the vehicle to me with the instructions "don't let the fuel tank drop below 1/4 of a tank". The stated reason is that the Ford Windstar has a rectangular fuel tank that when driving on grades can cause the fuel to move to a part of the tank that will not pump the gas to the engine (this is supposedly a known bug and possibly associated with a service bulletin). I asked why, assuming that my driving habits (and my wife's) have not changed in relation to our letting our tank get below 1/4 tank, then why has this only surfaced as a problem in the last 4 or 5 months? why not the first 3. 5 years?!? this car is covered by an extended warranty for one more year. The car has been in the shop for nearly three weeks now. Ford can not fix the problem, but will not take ownership of it either.
2000 Ford Windstar se stalls at red lights and when idling -- dealer kept insisting nothing wrong, yet would stall. In shop in October returned to us as working -- stalled in December again.
While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalls. The consumer managed to pull over and restart the vehicle. The dealership was notified, but did not red resolve the problem. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.
While at a stop vehicle stalled. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Consumer stated that while traveling vehicle slowed down/stopped, and then stalled. Consumer could not travel where there were any inclines or hills. Consumer took vehicle to several mechanics, and had vehicle on diagnostic machines, and no one could repair it.
When driving through an intersection vehicle stalled. This caused consumer to have the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection.
My 2000 Ford Windstar ,still under extended warranty, has a life-threatening bug. The engine, without warning, will stall while driving. It is intermittent, and very odd, but at whatever speed you are. Traveling, suddenly you realize that you have lost power to the engine, braking system and steering system, yet you are moving at the speed of traffic in a 3000+ pound vehicle without control. The vehicle has been taken to south bay Ford multiple times and they state that there diagnosis of the car shows the vehicle to be in good heath. Yet, it keeps happening and will likely result in an accident if it continues. Vehicle is covered under warranty.
While driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled. The driver was able to restart and drive the vehicle to the dealer inspection. The mechanic replaced air sensor to the engine. Please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem.
Per dealer repair: trace to lower vacuum leak, r&r lower intake gaskets, install undated parts cost of $600. This was on top of a $2000 transmission repair at same time, separate complaint, and also after two tie rods replaced.
While driving at any speed when it rained or the air conditioner was running the vehicle stalled. Once the vehicle stalled the consumer had to wait a half hour or more before restarting. This problem has occurred at least three times a month in the last three months. The dealer has examined the vehicle twice and could not find the problem.
The vehicle stalled without warning.
Frequent stalling and inconsistent engine idle, especially when car is stopped but still in gear (at traffic lights, etc). Parts repaired and/or replaced include: coil wire, cam sensor, cylinder wire and fuel pump. Repeated blown fuses for fuel pump. Even after repairs car still stalls when stopped and engine idle is inconsistent, worse when stopped. Has been a problem with this vehicle since 2002.
Consumer stated while driving at any speed, the vehicle would stall with no warning. Dealer notified.
Consumer states when coming to a stop, the vehicle stalls and loses all power. Vehicle will keep rolling, and it is hard to maneuver. Dealer contacted.
While driving vehicle intermittently stalled.
Vehicle stalled out and died without warning. Please provide additional information.
All stalling has occurred when slowing for a turn from a slow speed (from about 30 mph to 15 mph. ) once nearly caused an accident when power steering, brakes, etc were lost and nearly rear-ended car immediately ahead. Another stall was in middle of busy traffic which was held up until engine started again. All stalling occurred when on public thoroughfares, turning either right or left. Problem began in February 2000 at approx 44,000 miles odometer reading.
While driving 60mp vehicle stalled out and died without warning ,resulting in loss of vehicle control. After vehicle had stalled out "low oil pressure" indicator light flashed. Dealer inspected vehicle. Dealer could not figure why vehicle stalled, however stated that the pcm was canadian or europian made so it was replaced.
