Rear sliding passenger doors fail to close when using auto close feature. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership and each time the doors are serviced. When driving with door unlatched the power locks, and interior lights may cycle on and off causing a distraction to the driver and increase risk of accident.

8 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 04/17/2006

Passenger side rear door has failed three times since I purchased the car in 2000. Ford fixed it once while it was under warranty. . . No cost. They also fixed it after the warranty expired. . . No charge. This time. . . April 2006. . . They refused to cover the repair since I am out of the warranty period. . . . Even though this repair goes back to when I had the warranty. They say they only cover their repair for 12 mos. All 3 times the electric passenger rear door locks up and cannot be opened. . . . Either manually or via the electric button. Cannot lift door lock. . . And is not safe to drive. This problem has been happened just about every other year. I feel they should be responsible for the repair since it goes back to when the car was under warranty.

Upon impact the side door of my van flew off and ended up 15 feet from the vehicle. All occupants were wearing seat belts (my wife and our 5 children) so no one was ejected from the vehicle. 22 Door problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/07/2004

I own a 2001 Ford Windstar sel with power sliding doors. I am concerned with the problem I am having because one of the mechanisms used to operate the door is inoperable and the door no longer works electrically. The standard cost for this repair is $1800. 00, alot of money for a door repair. My concern is that if the power mechanism is not working these doors should be able to operate safetly manually. That is not the case the door is excessively heavy (heavier than a manual door) and when the vechicle is on an incline the door will not stay open. I have two children (ages 3 and 1) and I am concerned for their safety with this door. I feel there should be some safety precaution to hold the door open when the power fails. The door should require some sort of slight tug or pull to close not just gravity. I think if this issue is not resolved on these power doors someone is going to lose a finger, hand or much worse. Otherwise I think that manufacturers should make these repairs more affordable, most families (which is the majority of owners of Mini-vans) are on tight budgets and $2000. 00, is just outrageous for a door repair!.

23 Door problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/29/2003

We rented a Ford Windstar from hertz during a recent vacation. While shutting the manual sliding door, I broke my middle finger and badly bruised my ring finger. The door handle inside the vehicle, used for shutting the door, appears to be too close to the door jam. I was distressed to see online that others had complained of the exact same problem as long ago as 1999, stating that if you didn't grip the handle tightly, but instead left your fingers slightly extended, they would be injured and that Ford hoped to have this fixed in the 1999 version. . 26 Door problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/01/2003

I am writing about our 2003 Ford Windstar. Our passenger automatic sliding door frequently pops open after it appears to have latched shut. It has opened by itself on three occasions while the van was in drive. Recently my three year old daughter almost fell out of the van headfirst onto concrete because the door popped back open as soon as it "latched" shut. The van has been in to repair this problem seven times without success. We first started having problems with both doors within the first 2 weeks of purchased. The times the door has popped back open are way to numerous to count. The number listed below is a low estimate.

28 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

The automatic opening door on the passenger side has no sensors to detect a person in the way of the door. The door closed on myself without automatically releasing. If a child was there it could have been a serious injury.

29 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 03/19/2003

Automatic sliding doors intermittently malfunction. They will sometimes fail to close or open when activated. The passenger side door sometimes fails to close completely and the open door light on the dash remains on. The passenger side door sometimes makes a rattling sound and does not appear to have a tight seal.

30 Door problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/14/2003

On numerous occasions, the sliding door failed to close properly.

31 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/03/2003

We have had problems with the automatic sliding doors on our minivan since the original date of purchase. When using the remote or interior buttons to close doors, they frequently malfunction. When trying to close the doors, sometimes there is just a clicking noise and the door does not close at all. Other times, the door closes and then immediately pops right back open. Often when trying to close the doors manually, the doors fail to latch. Other times, the doors get stuck in an open position and we are unable to close them, either manually or electronically. We have taken the van to the dealership on two different occasions and they have not been able to duplicate the problem, or they simply state that there is not a problem. This past summer the "motor" which operates the door closing system was replaced. The most recent event occured on 2/3/03. This time the sliding door came open while the vehicle was in motion. We immediately took the vehicle to the dealership. They once again claimed that they can't find anything wrong. This is a very serious vehicle defect that could result in injury or death.

32 Door problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/12/2003

When closing passenger sliding door the door would not close. Consumer made contact with the dealership.

33 Door problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/07/2003

Problem with power doors on both sides. They do not stop closing if a person is in the way. Also, they open back up after they have been closed. I will come back to the van from shopping and one will be open. Also, there was a time a could not get one to close without doing it manually.

34 Door problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/15/2002

Without warning the passenger's side and driver's side sliding doors come ajar intermittently. Consumer contacted dealership on nine separate occasions, but the problem still occurs.

35 Door problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

I have read numerous complaints on edmunds. Com (town hall) from other Windstar owners. I'm concerned for my family with these doors failing. I am going back to my Ford dealer for a second visit to have them fix a problem that is of grave importance to my family and families of Windstar owners. Ford needs to take this matter more seriously and provide more support to fix these problems with these doors failing to work properly. Your attention to this matter is appreciated. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**770812.
