The air bag sensor/module in the passenger seat would work intermittently with the passenger in the seat for about 3 weeks, but is non-functional now (does not detect the presence of an occupant in the passenger seat) resulting in the passenger air bag being disabled at all times. I have gotten estimates from 3 different places ranging from $800-$1200. 00 to correct. This issue has now made our vehicle completely unsafe for my family to drive and ride in!!!!.

My car has been riding crazy. It kerks whem driving and this is only done with service stabiltrak and traction controll sensors come on in the middle of driving. Took to a mechanic who replace part connected to brake that suppose to fix this issue. Wnd issie is the airbag sysyem keeps flashing off and on. I checked nhshf website for reacalls and it says a recall. But when I contacted cheve they said no recall. There have been many complaints on these on this car. Something needs to be done.
I had a recall for my driver side, side impact air bag wire harness. The dealer in duluth mn (kolar) fixed it but light came on for check engine. Brought it back and they are telling me it is the pps sensor for the passenger airbag. There is a recall for this, but not on my Acadia. They want $600 plus labor to replace. Totaling around $950. Had another recall for the power lift gate, stating that the struts could possibly fail prematurely, causing the power lift gate to drop. As I was loading the back of the vehicle, the lift gate suddenly dropped on my head. I brought it to kolar in duluth mn and told them that the struts from the recall were shot and needed replacement. I picked the vehicle up after a day of them telling me that the recall had been successful. A week after I took the car home, the lift gate fell on my wife. I come to find out that kolar never replaced the struts, even after me talking to the mechanic and him assuring me that they would be changed out. It is now sitting at the dealer waiting for back ordered struts to come in to be installed.
Airbag passenger presence sensor failed despite limited seat use. Repair cost almost $800.
Passenger air bag sensor in passenger seat non-functional. Intermittently, passenger air bag system will deactivate with adult passenger on seat. By 2013 was nearly continuously not functioning. Less than 50k miles. Recall was performed (wires soldered). No change after recall. Dealer states that sensor module defective ($800 repair). Currently in shop waiting for parts.
The sunroof drainage tubes get clogged and leaked water which caused the fuse box in the dash to be filled with water. Also flooding all the floors and the battery compartment inside the car. Which in return causes the car to not shut off when you turn the key off and take it out. It also causes all kinds of sensors and check engine lights to come on on the dash like service airbag service stable track causes the traction control to turn off falsely tells you that engine oil needs changed also causes the battery to go dead for no reason also displays ac off engine hot.
Pps module-passenger presence system- detects front seat passenger presence to activate restraint system, the dealer found to have a short and was sending signal to dashboard alert-- "service airbag" dealer also found front sensors also bad. However, no warranty coverage even though an extended gm warranty was purchased when vehicle was new. Appears from other complaints with NHTSA dealing with airbag issues on same model vehicle there is a safety issue GMC needs to address, or NHTSA needs to get GMC to issue a recall. . See my prior submission case #[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Adult passenger seated in the passenger front seat with an approximate weight of 120lbs and a height of 5'3" does not enable the airbag sensor to turn on. The system does not enable the airbags even though an adult is seated in this position. We have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice and they have not been able to repair the issue.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia xlt2. The contact stated the passenger air bag would intermittently shut off while the passenger seat was occupied. The contact stated the failure would occur most frequently in warmer temperatures and less frequently during winter months. The dealer advised the contact that the passenger would have to be over 100 pounds in order for the air bag sensor to register the seat as occupied and for the air bag to engage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times in regards to the failure yet the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 25,000. Updated 09/27/10 updated 10/04/10.
