1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Transmission failed, transmission slipped out of gear, transmission stuck in first gear, gm approved a 2013 safety recall for this vehicle, the transmission failed in 2017, the transmission was repaired and the entire engine has been replaced twice. The transmission is failing again because it is a product defect that is dangerous. Gm has refused to repair or replace the vehicle and the autonation has refused to repair or replace the vehicle. Gm and autonation have sold a dangerous used car with a fraudulent intent. Gm and autonation have ratified the intentional fraud. The car needs to be replaced immediately because it is still dangerous to drive and the transmission is currently failing again.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

As I was driving onto the freeway and trying to merge my vehicle had slipped out of gear while it was in drive. I had no acceleration and I was on an incline. Once my vehicle slowed to 20mph it had re engaged and I was able to merge off of the freeway. This created a safety hazard for my girlfriend and I and her 3 young children because the speed limit on the freeway was 65 mph with very limited space to merge because other drivers are trying to merge onto an exit ramp. This created a safety hazard not only for our family but for others trying to merge onto the freeway behind us at a very low speed and those trying to exit at the same time. Luckily for us nobody was hurt. The vehicle is now in the shop and we were told that it is the 3-5-r wave plate. After reading on multiple forums about this vehicle and the transmission issues I believe that GMC needs to be held accountable for the malfunctions in this transmission because it is a safety hazard to those on the road.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

Vehicle seemed to have dropped out of gear, so I pulled off highway into parking area. I realized vehicle wouldn't move when in reverse. After pushing the car backwards so I could turn around (in said parking lot) I pulled back out on highway. Vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph and tach was doubled at over 4. I did make it home and I had vehicle towed to transmission shop where it is now being diagnosed.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

The vehicle refused to shift out of first gear and the check engine light became illuminated upon pulling out into the roadway. At 25 miles per hour the rpms were 4000 and it just would not shift. We pulled over, called for help and were stranded on the side of the road with two small children. We were hours away from home, and had to call family from hundreds of miles away to come help. The vehicle after being turned off and sitting for a while did then return to normal operation when restarted. Vehicle was driven home and two days later the very same problem recurred. Going to trade in this pos before someone gets hurt.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

While driving the transmission would not shift out of third gear. I am told that a wave plate has failed and the transmission needs to be replaced, cost $3000+.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

My wife was driving her 2008 GMC Acadia on the freeway when the transmission suddenly gave out and slipped out of gear. The vehicle would not accelerate. She was in the fast lane traveling 70 mph in the fast lane. She had to fight through traffic to get over to the shoulder so she could pull off the freeway enough to avoid getting hit by other cars traveling the freeway. She then had to exit the vehicle with our children during high traffic time. Very unsafe situation for a vehicle with only 69k miles on it. This is a known issue with the 2007 and 2008 lambda platform vehicles. GMC knows about the 3-5-r wave plate that was not heat treated during the building of these transmissions. Search the web or even forums for 3-5-r wave plate failure and see what comes up. I feel they should atleast extend the warranty if not recall this transmission before somebody gets hurt or killed when one goes out in traffic.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

While driving on the highway, going 60 mph, my car lurched forward and made an awful sound. The car completely slipped out of gear into neutral. The gas would not work. After coasting down a hill we were able to pull over. Thank goodness no one was behind us. We turned off the car and were able to restart it, but the maximum speed was 40 mph-and that was pushing it, the rpms were revved so high. We had called a tow truck.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

On a trip from texas to colorado our transmission failed. Driving on Saturday - transmission was acting funny. Stopped for night - got up next day to pull out of parking lot onto highway and transmission slipped out of gear - couldn't get it back into gear - managed to steer to right hand side shoulder. Could have been disastrous if I had made it out onto highway with cross-traffic coming. Looking on edmunds. Com it seems this is a very persistent issue with gm Acadias & Buick enclave gm models.

9 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

On occasion, our 2008 Acadia would not shift out of low gear when fist attempting to drive. The tac would rev to 5-6000 rpm at a max of about 20 mph. We would need to pull over, turn off the vehicle, wait a few minutes and restart. At this point everything would be fine with the exception of the check engine light being displayed. At first this would happen very rarely. It then began to happen more frequently. The last incident was very scary for my son, a new drive. He attempted to pull out into heavy traffic on a street with a 50 mph speed limit. The vehicle would only go 20 mph and there was no shoulder for him to pull over. We took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a failed wave plate. And from what I have been reading, a very common failure. The repair involved a transmission rebuild and cost us $2,800. Gm refused any compensation. Absolutely ridiculous that a company would not stand by an obviously defect issue in its product.

10 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

I was driving down the highway on Friday afternoon at 65 mph when I tried to accelerate to pass a vehicle, and the engine just revved nearly to the redline. I was able to reach the exit, where I pulled over, put the car in park, then back into drive to start off again. At this point, the car would not shift out of 1st gear. I was able to make it to a midas shop for a check and they stated that the transmission was shot. Called the local GMC dealer and had the car towed there for a diagnostic. They called Saturday afternoon and confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700. The car is 24k miles under warranty mileage, but just happens to be 5 months outside of the 5 year warranty window. I then called GMC customer care for redress and was told they would investigate. Received a call today ad they left a message, but only to ask which dealership it was at, even though I provided that info on Saturday, to include the phone number to the service department. The transmission problem seems to very widespread based on the number of responses on various websites, but doesn't seem that it is being seriously addressed by gm management and is a very serious safety concern.
