5 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

My transmission started to fail while driving at a high rate of speed on the highway. The vehicle was getting stuck between gears as I was traveling up hills. Transmission failure is a very common issue with early Acadia's (with low mileage) and a recall needs to be issued. I have taken it to the dealer who recommends a complete transmission rebuild or replacement.

6 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

As I was pulling off of the interstate onto rockville rd I noticed that the car upshifted from 3rd very violently. I then hit a stop light and it dowshifted pretty rough as well. I thought uh OH and noticed the check engine light come on. When I pulled away from the light I noticed the car was most likely stuck in 3rd gear as the rpms matched the mph and from driving a stick all those years they made sense. I later found out this was done on purpose to stick the transmission in 3rd gear to further damage it and allow you to continue to drive. I got to work and had onstar run a diagnostic. It came back with a p2715 code for the transmission control. After looking into this code it appears to involve the 3-5-r waveplate that controls the clutch for these gears. I, of course, am 6 months out of warranty on the drive train. After confirmation with GMC it was the wave plate. This appears to be a common problem cropping up with this transmission when you look around social media.

7 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

I'm concerned about the safety of the 2008 GMC Acadia and similar gm vehicles, as I was driving with my family out of town when the transmission suddenly had problems shifting in and out of gears. While driving the weekend after thanksgiving and approximately 4 hours from home, our 2008 GMC Acadia started down-shifting hard after passing a vehicle on the highway. A few minutes later this repeated, and then the check engine light came on. Soon after, when almost to our destination, the vehicle had no power to get up hills on the highway, and once we exited, could barely make it off the exit ramp and through a very busy intersection. It seemed to be stuck in a high gear. Being late Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend and now in a rural area, there weren't any repair shops that were either open or could look at it. So we had to rent a car and attempt to drive the Acadia back another 40-50 miles to get to a chevy dealer that was open and could at least checkout the transmission. On Saturday they confirmed it was the transmission, and specifically the 3-5-r wave plate, but the vehicle wouldn't be ready until the following week. Later I researched and found this to be a common problem, but it still wasn't being recalled by gm. Luckily we were barely (1 month) inside of our power train warranty and didn't get hurt. I will say that the chevy dealer that did the repair was great to work with, especially since we were from out of town. But now I'm worried about being able to safely drive this vehicle for any significant distance from our home.

8 Transmission Stuck In Gear problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

I was driving to visit my daughter up at college and drive her and 2 friends home. As I drove though the college town my car started acting funny. Just not accelerating and the rpm were racing, transmission appeared to stuck in first gear. Drove as little as possible just needed to get home safe. As I was driving home, again car not accelerating properly. I drove though the ezpass toll on the tappan zee bridge and my car just wouldn't go. Drove along it was very scary. I had to stop on the side of the road in the bronx. Eventually got it to the dealership who replaced the revers clutch plate.
