While turning at a low speed steering locked up making hard to turn. This now happens frequently while driving and making turns. Some times I am unable to turn at all and have to try again. I have read numerous accounts of this happening to this car, if I would have known I would have never purchased.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle drove over a pot hole and the steering wheel went left when the contact was attempting to turn right. The contact mentioned that the steering wheel was making a knocking noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate mileage was 67,800. The VIN number was unavailable. Pam.
Power steering problem. Going to pull into a parking spot and the power steering seemed to go. Had a difficult time turning the steering wheel. Did the same thing at later dates pulling in and out of a parking spot. At other times, it happened while trying to turn onto a road.
This is my wife's vehicle which I rarely drive. While attempting to make a turn at a slow speed in city driving, I noticed that the power steering went away and I was barely able to force the steering wheel enough to complete the turn. Once straight and the vehicle moving at normal speeds the power steering was working fine. In subsequent slow moving turns both to the right and left steering difficulties were encountered intermittently. My wife stated that she had encountered this type of steering difficulties for several months and had ask the technicians at the local goodyear dealer to check the power steering fluid level at one of her oil changes. The technicians informed her that the level was full. I recently drove the vehicle on a trip myself and noticed a rattle near the front left tire area and some popping noises when accelerating from a complete stop. I will be taking this vehicle to the shop for a diagnosis of what the problem is.
Steering loses power everyday, mostly when vehicle is going slower. It is getting harder & harder to turn. Coming out of the turn it will all of a sudden pop & loosen up again. I can't believe with all these complaints no recall has been issued. Very dangerous.
While driving my 2010 GMC Acadia up a slightly curing pass at 65mph the power steering spontaneously went out. No leaking, noises or warning signs of failure prior. Steering became very difficult and stiff, unable to change lanes without difficulty which could have easily caused an accident in heavier traffic. Had performed flawlessly without any signs of difficulty 8 miles prior while turning onto the highway from a stop. Car is otherwise in excellent condition and current on all manufacturer recommended services.
Vehicle becomes almost impossible to steer at low speeds. Problem is intermittent. Becoming more frequent and occurring at higher speeds. Very dangerous to drive. I hope they recall it so the problem can be fixed and before someone gets hurt.
Power steering does not work well when making sharp turns in parking lot's or at slower speeds. The vehicle becomes nearly impossible to turn and the failure occurs unexpectedly causing near accidents. Has occurred at higher speeds as well which is even more dangerous. Gm should recall this issues before any major accidents. Mechanic said this is "a common problem" with this particular vehicle. They should look into statistically how many times this issue has been diagnosed and repaired.
The power steering when turning a corner goes out, causing the vehicle to be almost impossible to turn. This problem is intermittent and it does not matter what speed you are going. This is electric power steering and I believe there needs to be a recall on this due to the potential hazard and possible death associated with this defect.
My car power steering is locking up. While drive getting ready to turn the wheel locks up. Not only me but many other has reported this same issue and has even occured in accidents due to this. Gm has not recalled this SUV due to this issue and I am very displeased because its a known issue.
Vehicle becomes almost impossible to steer at low speeds. Problem is intermittent. Becoming more frequent and occurring at higher speeds. Very dangerous to drive, especially when stopped and attempting to turn out into traffic.
At low speeds power steering quits? extremely dangerous my wife almost had an accident.
Vehicle looses power steering at low speeds.
I have had 3 recalls on my 4 year old Acadia in the last several months and also had to replace my power steering at less than 65,000 miles. My car is back at the dealer for the third time in less than 10 days for the service air bag light after they have attempted to fix the recall. Although no specific safety incident, my concerns with the ability of the dealer/automaker to provide a safe vehicle and well as the overall lack of reliabilitly of the car in less than 4 years is both disapointing and concerning. I am currently in touch with GMC about my options.
Power steering goes out intermittently at low speeds. Specifically when turning corners or pulling into a parking space. Some times I can't even turn the wheel. Was told by the dealer that the steering gear needed replacing and it would cost $2000, and wasn't covered under the warranty. I brought it to a local car repair shop, and they replaced it for $1700, but that did not fix the problem. I am hesitant to drive the vehicle since I have 2 small children. The NHTSA needs to investigate this issue, since the majority of the complaints for this vehicle are related to the power steering.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while making left hand turn, the vehicle would jerk and the steering wheel seized. The contact would have to forcefully turn the wheel and the steering wheel would operate normally. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000. Ne.
While making low speed turns while in motion the power steering intermittently will cut out. When it first start to occur it would cut out briefly before re-engaging. The issue was brought to the attention of the GMC dealer when I brought my car in to have the steering rack replaced; I was told it was probably due to low fluids but they would check it out. After I picked my car up, the problem did not arise for me again for 1. 5 weeks. However, it is worse, the power steering cuts out unexpectedly after having already started to turn the wheel at low speed in-motion turns and does not re-engage until after the wheel has returned to the neutral position.
While trying to attempt a right turn on a green light at approximately 10 mph my steering wheel did not turn. This was completely unexpected and I was caught off guard but managed to stop the vehicle inches away from traffic coming in the opposite direction. I brought it in for servicing and was told the r&p needed to be replaced. This was done but the issue persists. The dealer claims they can not find any issues with my steering even though we have been on test drives where the steering locks up. To this day the problem continues only at low speeds, but I will not let my family travel in this vehicle.
This has happened several times since I've bought this truck last year. Right after I bought it, I had to pay out of pocket to have the power steering box replaced ($1200. 00) since then, while driving my steering gets hard to turn either way and the engine even stopped running a few weeks ago while on the interstate, I had to pull off the road. The truck also makes a popping sound while turning too. Since I have bought the truck, I have had nothing but problems, within 2 weeks of buying it, I had transmission leak and oil leak that had to be fixed. I want so bad to get out of this truck. I am the sole provider in my home, single mother of 3 kids and this vehicle is used for our daily commutes and my job. When slowing down to come to a stop the truck also lunges forward a few times before stopping completely. Also when going down the road the rpm will lunge up for no reason and you can hear it like it is trying to shift to a higher gear or like I have pressed the gas, which I had not.
I have been experiencing loss of steering with my 2010 GMC Acadia for several weeks. It seems to happen most when I am at low speeds and turning, especially into parking spots, and my garage. The steering gets so tight it makes it almost impossible to turn. I use my car solely as a means for transportation for kids. . . Why has GMC not done anything about this? you read post after post on may different websites and blogs about the exact same situation. . . Surely this is a defect that GMC needs to address. I am disappointed and truly hope that GMC will address this action.
Thepower steering goes out at low speed turns, which makes it a difficult and is a safety hazard. It is starting going out at medium speeds.
Steering has intermittent loss of power making vehicle control difficult.
The steering starting making a popping or whinning noise at low speed turns of the wheel. This is the approximate time I noticed the noise start.
While traveling at a low speed went to pull into a parking spot and the power steering cuts out and then cuts back in. Added power steering fluid got better for about a week and then got worse. Has been happening more frequently mostly at low speed and in turns.
Steering gear binds when making sharp turns as in parking.
When taking any type of corners, whether it be going around a round-about, turning into my driveway, or turning to park in a park space the power steering goes out and the steering wheel locks up. This has been an unground problem for 8 months or more. I took the vehicle to a certified gm dealer and they were unable to find a trouble code, and unable to duplicate the concern. Recently the steering issue is becoming worse and I am concerned with driving and the safety of the loss of power steering.
After starting the car, shifting to drive with brakes applied and slow acceleration while taking a right turn out of my parking space I lost all steering control and brakes became very hard to press as well. I managed to stop the car and put it back to park and turned off the ignition, then back on again. I didn't have the issue again. Luckily I didn't hit another car in the parking lot.
Vehicle has been experiencing intermittent issues with steering at low speeds. While trying to park, pull into traffic or make low speed turns, the steering will seize. No current recalls so issue reported to GMC on 8/13/13 for consideration.
The contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle became extremely difficult to steer. There was a clunking sound coming from the steering wheel whenever the contact was making a turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the failure was due to low power steering fluid. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 62,834.
It seems that everytime I am at a low speed <15mph (such as pulling into a parking space, turning at a four way stop, etc) the steering wheel feels like it wants to lock up and it takes all my strength to turn it to go the correct direction. It is dangerous. Pulling in a straight line isn't bad, but backing out of a public parking space or something similar could be bad. I just noticed it every now and then sometime in August, however, within the last few weeks it has gotten significantly worse. Fluids appear fine. It only has 63,000 miles on it. This is ridiculous. I have a 2010 GMC Acadia fully loaded, all the awesome gadgets, paid out the wazoo for a car like this, I should not be having these problems. Waiting on the dealer to tell me whats going on now, however, they are saying it could cost me over $1000 to fix. I have the 100,000 power train warranty on it but the other ran out at 60,000 miles. This is no way to take care of your consumer. I will not pay for that, especially after reading that this seems to be a common problem in year models 2009-2012. Seems like a recall is in order! not the best way to keep your consumers. Before this problem, I swore I would never have anything but an Acadia, depending on this outcome, that decision could be drastically changed. And so I have read from several other consumers.
While leaving a parking lot - tried to avoid a pole - was not able to turn steering wheel - it was as though I had no power steering -.
The steering will quit working randomly when making turns almost causing accidents, gm does not feel this is a safety issue so they wont pay to have it fixed but yet they recalled it to fix a little plastic piece on a rear seat belt. At this point we can not afford to have it fixed so we must drive around in fear of losing steering control. Someone should be held responsible since researching the problem there are alot of other people with the same problem.
Power stearing goes out at low speeds while parking. Recently the stearing has been going out while sharp turning at speeds of 25 to 30 mph.
I purchased vehicle used on June 1 2013 around 3 weeks later the vehicle started being hard to turn at turns and slow speeds the steering locks up. I took it back to dealership they ended up charging me 75. 00 for power steering fluid now its getting a little out of control at first it was everynow n then now its about 5-7 times a day. I called gm taking it in on service on this matter and waiting to see what happens I barely drive the vehicle now cause of the problem to me its a safety issue and I found out im not the only one with this issue when will GMC realize this needs to be recalled I dont find it fair to have to pay out of pocket with such a known issue god forbid if me or my grandkids get hurt its scary to drive my truck now.
While trying to park thegmc Acadia 2010, the steering felt like it went out on me. My husband had told me previously that he had the same issue while trying to pull out into traffic. My incident only hurt my shoulder his incident almost caused a car crash. We have also had issues with the window on the driver's side not opening until you open another window. And now the latest issue, my husband had gotten off work and started the car and all the locks went up and down really fast and the dash lights flickered off and on, then, when he was on his way home he smelled plastic burning. If this was anybody else's car I would have said it was possessed but since we're paying for it there's a problem. Does somebody have to die before they will address this problem? I filled this form out on my husband's phone.
