3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

After start up (while driving or with vehicle at rest) service airbag notification pops up and remains on dash center notification area along with airbag system light on dash. Dealer wants over $1,000 to repair something that should be covered under recall or warranty special coverage. This type of very common occurrence shouldn't be limited by a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Owners manual states that air bag may not deploy. Gm customer service number claims that the system fault will not prevent air bag deployment, but I wouldn't trust that girl on the phone to be able to change her own wiper blades, let alone explain the functionality of the airbag system. GMC needs to issue a recall for this problem that people are having at alarming rates with their 2014 GMC Acadias. This is not limited only to the 2013 and older GMC Acadias.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

My husband and I were in a very serious car accident and I'm concerned because our air bags did not deploy. We were traveling on a diagonal street in chicago and he was going straight. My right front fender hit his right front fender. His air bags deployed but ours did not. The er told me it was likely I hit the steering wheel and it could take up to nine months to heal from having whiplash in my shoulders and neck. My husband has been diagnosed as having a contusion. We hit really hard I was traveling about 25 mph and he was probably doing 45 mph. This is a real safety issue. My air bags may or may not have made the difference but I believe they should have deployed.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

I purchased this vehicle used in April 2017, but a few months after I purchased the vehicle I started having a light on in the dash saying "service air bag". I've tried ignoring it & hoping that there would eventually be a recall because the vehicle no longer had a warranty, but we are about to take it in to get it serviced. After searching the internet I am finding that many other people with Acadias have had this same issue & have had to take their vehicle & pay to get it serviced. I've also read where there were some accidents where the airbags did not deploy. I have researched only to find out that many GMC models were recalled for the same issue, but it was for year models previous to mine (including but not limited to the year before mine). I have a friend who has the Chevrolet traverse (which is the exact same vehicle as mine, just with the Chevrolet name) & she had the exact same problem that I'm having. Is this not a safety issue? please research this. It is not coincidence that so many people have had this problem! this light comes on at all times as soon as you turn on the car. I have read where some have had faulty wiring under the seat that had to be re-soldered.

8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/20/2018

Premature airbag deployment I was jumping the Acadia from our 2012 Ford fusion due to a no start - no crank issue. The Acadia's battery was completely discharged, so I placed jumper cables onto the positive end from the fuse box and the ground terminal. The Acadia's horn worked, indicating electrical power, so I tried to crank it but it did not crank. I turned the ignition key to the off position and sat in the driver's seat for less than a minute before the driver airbag suddenly deployed. The passenger airbag did not deploy. Before this happened, the Acadia's alternator was replaced back in July or August. The car drove fine for about a month before the charging system failed and the car would not start again. The car sat in the yard for about a month before I tried to jump it off the first time. The car did start, but it died about 5 minutes later. The car sat in the yard for week before I tried to start it again. This is when the airbag deployed. One more thing: the Acadia leaked from the sunroof, and the inside of the car was wet. I don't know if this could have caused an issue with the electronics. Attached are pictures after the airbag deployed.

Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

My 2012 GMC Acadia was involved in gm safety recall 14030 in may 2014 concerning the ¿service air bag¿ light coming on (NHTSA campaign number: 14v118000). Even though my vehicle had not had the problem, on 09/24/14 my dealer performed the recall by removing the driver and passenger side impact airbag (siab) wiring harness connectors and splicing and soldering the wires together. Yellow electrical tape was placed over the splices. Vehicle had 16,924 miles on it at that time. Shortly after the repair was done the ¿service air bag¿ light started coming on. We quickly determined the light would go out if we "wiggled" the yellow tape under the passenger¿s seat. Gm issued service bulletin 15536 in August 2015. They had received reports that, in some cases, the required repair for gm recall n14030 may have been incorrectly performed by the dealer service technician. Under this special coverage dealers were to remove the section of the wire with the faulty repair and re-connect the wires at no charge to the customer. Gm identified all vehicles involved with 15536 by VIN on the applicable warranties section in gm global warranty management system. When I took my vehicle in to have the ¿service air bag¿ light problem fixed, the dealer saw the light was on but their scan revealed no codes. He said this was not the same issue and my VIN was not included in the service bulletin anyway. The dealer nor gm customer service could explain why all vins involved with the original recall (14030) were not covered by 15536. This is a safety issue (air bags will not deploy with "service air bag" light on) and gm appears to have arbitrarily determined some vins had good repairs and some others may not. I think it is only fair and logical that all vins involved with recall 14030 should be included in service bulletin 15536 and request your help to make that happen.

15 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

The vehicle was in motion near an intersection and approaching the light to turn. ( near airport in raleigh nc) the front and side airbags failed to deploy during the crash. The other vehicle has been declared total loss and mine has significant damage and could be classified as total loss. There are personal injuries. I am attaching pictures of the vehicle and accident report.

16 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

My wife and three daughters, ages 11, 9, and 6, were involved in a major crash. An elderly male traveled thru a steady red traffic signal and struck the passenger side of my wife's vehicle as she was crossing the intersection with a green traffic signal. After impact, they were pushed head on into a traffic standard (which was taken out completely) and then into a telephone pole, also head on. Not one airbag deployed. The vehicle is supposedly equipped with front and side airbags. In March of 2014 there was a recall concerning the airbags not deploying in these vehicles (# 14v118000). I have owned this vehicle since new and did return it to the dealership in may of 2014 for the recall shortly after receiving notification. I was advised that it was taken care of.

17 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/23/2015

Air bag sensor warning light came on, carried it to fowler Buick GMC in August, 2015, system was reset. 2 weeks later, light came back on, went back to dealer, had air bag sensors replaced in drivers seat and passenger seat, which cost $1310. 00. 2 weeks later warning light comes on and goes off several times when driving. Dealer service cannot find cause but informs me to that air bags will not deploy when warning light is on. 2012 Acadia has 81,000 miles on vehicle and I do not want to trade again. I would like to know what options I have since there appears to be nor call for this problem.

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

My wife fell asleep ran off the road struck a utility pole and a large dirt embankment. The air bags did not deploy nor did the belt tensioners, she hit the steering column so hard she it broke the column and broke her sternum. Our granddaughter was in the front passenger seat the air bag nor the tennsioners deployed resulting her back being broken in two places and also her foot was broken. I contacted general motors and they sent a man to download the computer information they sent me a copy of the info and later contacted me saying the info showed everything was working properly. Pryor to the accident I had the auto in for the recall on this problem. I also had it in for another recall for the headlights and they had to remove a large part of the front to do the repair and done a poor job of putting it back together I returned it and they finally got it right,in the mean time the service air bag light came on and they repaired that. Later after the accident I went back to the dealer and questioned the body shop manager about putting it back together properly and then told him about the accident then he had nothing else to say. The auto was a total loss after a length of time wife and granddaughter got out of hospital. This car was recalled for this very reason. My insurance company paid my granddaughter $95,000 for her injuries and commented that they would probably sue gm to get that back.

A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000. Mm.

21 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

My son was driving down a residential street which has a right turn/murge over a canal. Upon reaching the right turn the power steering failed and he was unable to navigate the turn. The Acadia drove forward into a large pipe which crosses over the canal. The front of the Acadia was crashed including the front bumper, radiator, head lamps, engine, driver side front panel, passenger side panel, and the frame. None of the air bags deployed during this crash. There is a recall on the side airbags at this time but not the front airbags. There is no recall on the power steering on this gm model. I have had experienced the power steering intermittently fail when turning both left and right. My daughter also experienced power steering failure one week prior to my son's accident. I was in the vehicle with her. This power steering failure is not exclusive to my GMC Acadia 2009. Consumer reports as well as the Acadia forum also has mentioned this power steering failure in other GMC Acadias. The airbags not deploying during this incident is also very concerning. This air bag failure could have caused major injury given another senario.

22 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/12/2014

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving 20 mph the front passenger side tire blew and the contact lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a two foot ditch. The vehicle then went through a row of hedges and crashed into a tree on the driver's side. The seat belt did not restrain the contact and the air bags did not deploy. The rear seats collapsed as well. The contact sustained a severe concussion from hitting her head on the windshield, bruised legs, arm, fractured nose, and bruising to the face. The contact was found lying over the console and was taken to the emergency room. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision shop. The contact later received notification of NHTSA recall campaign number 14v266000 (seat belt) however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

23 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

24 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I was hit by a Ford f-150 that was going approx. 55 mph. It hit me on my rear driver's side directly by the back door and gas tank. I was the only passenger in the vehicle. None of the airbags deployed even though my Acadia was spun and the driver's side door was impacted by the passenger's side door causing it to be unusable and unable to open. My head hit and shoulder the driver's side window and hip and left leg hit the driver's side door leaving pulled muscles and bruises and a slight concussion. Esis/gm told me that gm would is not responsible for the airbags not deploying due to "being hit incorrectly by the other vehicle".

25 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

Vehicle was north bound on SC hwy 101, 1-mile south of SC hwy 414. Crossed south bound lane into shoulder of the road- on into small brush and trees. Driver side undercarriage was torn away, with tire/wheel/hub 50 feet behind vehicle, shock/coil spring 20 feet behind and left of vehicle. Driver door window completely shattered with door hinges torn away. Windshield shattered on driver side. Seat belt locked driver firmly in seat. Air bags did not deploy! had just received an "on-star" e-mail check list on 2-24-2014 in which the air bag system was checked in green which indicated it was functional-ok! this is horrifying when safety devices turn out to be non functioning un-safety devices! this SUV was maintained properly in every aspect possible, and would have been considered in excellent condition for the year and mileage.

26 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

While sitting in the passenger seat, the passenger airbag light will come on, noting that the airbag is no longer activated. A message will also come up on the driver's messaging screen stating to service airbag. When the vehicle was brought in, I was told that I needed a new software module for my vehicle. I was told that there is a chance that if we were in an accident the passenger airbags would not deploy. I find it hard to believe that a 5-6 year old vehicle should already need its airbag module replaced.

27 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, another vehicle traveling 40 mph crashed into the front driver's side of the contact's vehicle. Failure Date: 11/08/2012

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the air bag light illuminated. The contact was informed by onstar that in the event of a crash, the air bags would not deploy or may deploy erroneously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the air bag cables were reset. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 16,519. The VIN was unavailable.

30 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/19/2012

Since may 2012 our "check air bag" light has repeatedly appeared. The dealer told us that when that light is on, the airbags will not deploy. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer to be repaired at least 4 times. The most recent of which was on December 20, 2012. We were told gm discovered a new repair that they were 90% certain would fix the problem with the passenger airbag detector. The light appeared again tonight, less than one month after the new repair. GMC has been completely non-responsive. The dealer (koons) would only repair the car when the light appears, which is a problem when it flashes intermittently. The fact that we cannot rely on our airbags to deploy is an extreme safety concern.

31 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While accelerating from a stop sign and making a left turn, the power steering failed. The contact crashed into a tree. There were no warning indicators illuminated, but a recurring noise could be heard in the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired for the power steering failure. The front end damage was repaired. Several times prior to the crash, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering pump needed replacement. The power steering pump was replaced. The driver was not injured and a police report was not filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 56,155.

32 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

In 2011, our Acadia electrical system started to malfunction. First the driver's side headlight wiring burnt. We had that replaced. After the headlight, we started noticing the engine light was coming on and the air bag sensor was notifying us that the air bags will not deploy. None of the sounds where coming on in the car. For example, if you were not wearing your seatbelt the "dinging" did not happen. I took the Acadia in for service and they told me it was my cell phone that triggered the defect. I thank god I was not in an accident however if GMC knew of the defects why not be up front with us. My family and I travel plenty. Safety is the number one concern, we bought the Acadia faithfully and hopes GMC provides the best service possible.

33 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

The passenger sensing system is not working properly. Sometimes it will indicate that it is on and other times it will indicate that it is off even when someone who weighs over 140 pounds sits on the passenger seat. It won't indicate that the person doesn't have their seatbelt on. Even if driving and person has been sitting, it won't turn on. If an accident occurs the airbags will not deploy because it doesn't sense correctly. I have taken the vehicle into the local dealer while a passenger was in the seat and the service manager saw the problem. The vehicle has been worked on several times and the dealer has not been able to correct the problem. There is an active gm safety recall (14030, NHTSA campaign 14v11800), and the vehicle was serviced, but the problem still exists. The local dealer (flow GMC, fayetteville, nc) is telling me that I must pay $500 of the $568 to have the part replaced based on guidance from the general manager (roy jackson). I should not have to pay for a part replacement that I have complained about before the recall and pay for something that has an active recall on. This is bad business for a consumer and GMC should be held liable.

34 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/08/2010

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact was attempting to park the vehicle 1 mph with steady pressure to the brake pedal when the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a building. The contact engaged the brakes harder but the vehicle would not stop. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was available. The contact stated that there were damages to the front end of her vehicle and to the building. The failure and current mileage was 35,000.

35 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The vehicle was being driven 50 mph when the driver crashed head-on with another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy and the driver sustained injuries to the left leg and head. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop where the body damage was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was informed that an investigator would inspect the vehicle. The inspector stated that the control module was unplugged during the impact, which caused the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
