GMC Acadia owners have reported 39 problems related to blind spot detection (under the lane departure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Acadia based on all problems reported for the Acadia.
Driver side blind spot not longer works. When driving the blind spot indicator just stopped working a month ago and I didn't take notice until I almost hit another car. I contacted GMC about this issue as well and was also told there isn't any recall for this and it would have to be diagnosed by there mechanics. There were no other issues prior to this. Also the "shift to park" warning has been popping up for 3 days now when my car is in park. My car won't complete shut everything off until that warning is turned off. I called GMC of puyallup and was told only certain VIN qualifies for the recall for the GMC 2019 Acadia. That's absolutely ridiculous! I can't exit my vehicle until the car senor knows my vehicle is in park which is a major concern and safety issue because my home is on a slope.

In March of 2022 the vehicle displayed a warning to service the side detection system. On March 31st 2022 the dealership diagnosed that the side blind zone alert module failed due to water intrusion. The replacement of the modular was completed free of charge under "campaign - n172097060 special coverage adjustment". In December of 2024 the same warning to service the side detection system was activated again, several weeks later the warning lights on the side view mirrors lite up and remained on. Upon bringing the vehicle on February 13th 2025 for service, in it was determined to be caused by the same failed part as the first occurrence. This time the repair was not covered by the dealer, and was 1099. 22. GMC has not solved the underlining problem with these parts. The side detection system is critical when driving a larger SUV for blind zone awareness to avoid collisions while driving in multi lane traffic. When the system failed, the lights on the side view mirrors made driving difficult due to the distraction and glare. Although this problem is known by the manufacture it has provided a permanent solution, as they continue to use the flawed original parts. Due to the sensor being electrical, there was no symptoms prior to failure; the warning appears and continued at each start up. The cost of repairing safety features on an ageing vehicle becomes a burden, especially when those features can only be repaired by a dealership at high prices. This keeps many people from maintaining or fixing their cars, putting others at risk. I have the modular from the most recent repair, and will include a photo if possible.

I was curious about recalls because I totaled my 15 Acadia slt2 and when I hit the impact didn’t deploy airbags and I had no idea until after my accident that they were recalled!!! this incident totaled my Acadia caused my face to be slammed into my steering wheel, cutting me in 2 places and shattering my eye glasses. I now have a scar that looks like a 2nd chin from my impact to hitting the steering column! what should I do? I wasn’t or hadn’t received anything from GMC about this recall until recently and damage has already been done and I’m at a loss of tremendous amounts because my air bags could have saved $300+ glasses and doctors appointments etc….

I have a 2015 Acadia denali with 95000 miles. I am getting the "service side detection system" message whenever I start my car, and the blindspot lights, cross-traffic detection etc. Do not function at all. A"nationwide" problem I was told. I was also told that it would cost $800+ to replace if/when the part was available. I am really frustrated with this and was wondering a) whether this malfunction is a part of a service recall (given it is apparently a "nationwide" problem); b) whether the $800 replacement cost is accurate given that the part appears to be available for under $200 online; and c) whether purchasing this part will even fix the problem given that other forum members have stated that once this issue comes up, it continues to malfunction, even after the part is replaced. Very disappointed right now, particularly since this issue has been recurring on a number of GMC vehicles for at least 5 years.
Went to burt watson the end of may. Paid $250 to diagnose 3 problems. Trans was intermittently kicking into passing gear when starting from a stop position, a service engine light and passenger side blind spot warning would come on when nothing was there and other times wouldn't recognize a vehicle was there. Around the middle of July the battery began draining intermittently leaving me stranded at night away from home. The rear defogger began turning itself on and couldn't be shut off and was very hot to the touch. The drivers seat moved all the way forward on its own pressing me into the steering wheel and dash while I was driving at highway speed. Forcing me to change 2 lanes of traffic trying to get to the side of the road. I was told by the service manager that the rear fuse block had shorted out do to water intrusion from bad drain ports. This was replaced, and then I was told something else was draining the battery. And this was "one " of the things not covered by warranty. There is a service bulletin stating that there may be pinholes at the top of the a-pillars and d-pillars yet the dealership stated a new windshield was needed. There are several service bulletins indicating that such leaks can reek havoc on the electronics. The dealership has changed their estimate several times with still no solution in site. The vehicle has been sitting at the dealership since July. At one point it was communicated to me that gm would assist in the cost of the repairs when and if job was ever completed. They are now stating the cost to repair the issues is $5500. 00 and is my responsibility.

I bought my vehicle in 2020. In 2019, there was a special coverage notice (n172097060) with part repair because of known service side detection issues for water module intrusion. My understanding is this is due to the poor design and placement of the item in the rear of the vehicle that is known for getting water in it when driving, which then impacts the entire electronic system (not just service side detection). Beginning in spring 2023, I began to have these issues, starting with service side detection first. I then had other major electrical issues connected to this issue I believe are a safety concern. I have had very scary episodes at high speeds of my entire car electronic system shutting down, speedometer going to zero, gas going to empty, glitching and not starting multiple times. It got to the point my entire car was not drivable due to this issue - the dealer has a temporary fix on it to allow it to continue to be drivable until parts are in. The dealer has confirmed the issue I am experiencing is this safety special coverage issue from 2019. I contacted the dealer I bought my car from and they stated they did the special coverage fix in 2019. They confirm this issue is occurring again. However, they claim that because it was fixed in 2019, I am responsible for paying and fixing it this time around. The issue was not resolved and I believe this is a huge safety issue that should be a recall, not just a special coverage. It was very scary driving on a highway with my children in tow and having my entire system go out at a high speed. It has been inconvenient, parts are supposedly on backorder and being told it's my responsibility to cover it when it's a known issue. I have also found online many other owners having this issue. The special coverage did not fix it if water continues to get into the module and continues to generate these issues again. I appreciate any assistance on this matter and thank you for your time!.
Special coverage adjustment n172097060 side blind zone alert module water intrusion was issued for my vehicle. I took it in to get fixed and was told I was past the 6 year extension (may 2022) but under the milage (79,199). They told me the parts are on back order from GMC. This was on 04-03-2023. On 04-05-2023 I was driving my vehicle and the instrument cluster went partially blank. I lost my speedometer , tachometer and most of the other gauges. I had numerous warning lights on. The blinkers stopped working and I had no control of any environmental controls or radio functions. I pulled off the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. I tried to restart it, it started but even more things began to fail electrically. I shut if off again, tried another restart and now it would not start. I tried multiple times and could not get it to start. With the car off and the key out of the ignition, the heater control panel would stay on and the fan was running. I tried a few more times and finally got it to run but still had no instrumentation. I was less than a mile from home and tried to make it back. While driving I had no electrical control of anything and no way to determine my speed. I made it back, but now my vehicle will not start at all. With the key out it still runs the heater controls and fan. This is a dangerous situation not being able to control your vehicle electrical systems and being able to start your vehicle. This needs to be a recall, not a manufacture " special coverage adjustment" that they know is a known issue and dont even have to parts to fix it.
Service side detection system warning is on and upon investigation and diagnostics it has been widely reported as a common issue that GMC only chose to address for a select number of vehicles. I have 93k miles and there is a service agreement to 80k. Others have indicated that it not fixed it can send bad signals to circuit board causing battery failure, information system failure, dash light failure and headlight failure making this a safety issue is something like this occurs in the dark. As a result I am concerned for my safety and am frustrated that GMC is not required to fix this issue.
Service indicator on the driver information center stating to service vehicle detection aka blind spot alert the system has failed once already was taken in for repair to gm was repaired and it has now failed again and is going in for service on April 4th 2023.
The toe links on my vehicle are bad and needs to be replaced. They broke as I was driving. Almost caused me to lose control and almost wreck. Thankfully there were no other cars around. I see this is a recall for GMC’s but for some reason not my VIN number. Not understanding why if I have the same problem on vehicles that were recalled.

I get a "service side detection" on my dic. It used to work occasionally, now it no longer works. The sensors lights do come on when the "service side detection" shows up. Sometimes this alerts comes and goes and sometimes it stays until I push a button, in which it just reappears later. Through research I found this document sent out from https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2019/mc-10160088-9999. Pdf global safety field investigations dcs5011 urgent - distribute immediately subject: n172097060 - special coverage side blind zone alert module water intrusion general motors is releasing special coverage n172097060 today. The total number of u. S. Vehicles involved is approximately 131,652. Please see the attached bulletin for details. Condition: some 2013-2016 model year Chevrolet cruze, 2014-2015 Chevrolet impala and 2013-2017 GMC Acadia vehicles, may have a condition where the side blind zone alert (sbza) modules may fail or malfunction due to water intrusion. The driver may experience a side blind zone alert message displayed on the driver instrument cluster (dic). If this message is ignored, the condition could result in the corruption of LS gmlan that may result in the loss of some driver interface functions such as cluster, infotainment / displays, chime, and passenger presence detection (passenger airbag could be suppressed, w/airbag tt, dic message). Major safety concern!! special coverage adjustment: this special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 6 years or 80,000 miles (130,000 km) whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Correction: dealers are to repair the vehicle by ordering and installing the appropriate service kit. The service kit will contain all of the components required to complete the repair. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Problem: my car has a branded title so they will not fix it. If it is a recall, they have to.
Recently the "service side detection system" light came on. Now the blind side monitoring doesn't work. While driving all of lights on the dash, radio, and headlights turned off. I was unable to see the road, my speed, or anything within the vehicle. I did some research and this is a vary common issue with these vehicles and nothing has been done to correct it.
Since I have owned this vehicle, my blind spot alert system has failed 3 times. In every occurrence, the warning lights in the mirror have been stuck in the "on" position. It has occurred at approximately 60k miles, 100k miles, and now 150k miles. In each occurrence, it was a defective sensor module due to the location of the module that allows water to get into the box. The blind spot light stays on constantly and no longer detects vehicle located in the blind spot of the vehicle. In every case, the cost of the repair was over $800 to replace the box.

A warning light is coming on telling to have the side detection module serviced. Brought it to a dealer and was quoted a cost of $1274 to repair. It is a complicated repair and if not repaired will affect other safety systems of the vehicle because all sensors are linked. I did some research and this issue is common for this make, model and year GMC Acadia. I would like some help getting assistance for payment of this issue - one that is common and represents a safety problem if not repaired. Issue is described as side detection modules and harness. If this is a common occurence and is a safety issue, a recall or other means of satisfaction should be offered by gm. Thanks, brad nylander 218 343-8780.
Blind spot monitor module corrosion, second replacement in three years. Warning lamps on and side mirror alert lights remain on at all times causing a distraction at night.
For the second time, my blind spot alert system has quit working. The first time it happened, my vehicle was slightly out of warranty and it required a replacement of a part that cost over $800. The replacement worked fine for several years but has recently stopped working again.
Side object detection indicator failure. This was a recall in 2019 after my system failed causing the entire electronic dashboard to go black while driving on the highway. I had no indication of speed while driving. Once I pulled safely off the road and turned the vehicle off, it would not start and needed to be towed. I had it fixed and within months GMC recalled the module kit due to poor design resulting in failure to protect the module from expected weather exposure. The module was replaced in 2019. Again, in 2023, exactly 4 years again, the side detection indicator has failed, due to expected weather exposure which resulted in corrosion. GMC denied replacement because I have already had it replaced. GMC is unable to confirm the module kit placed on my vehicle was an improved design and was the same kit design that has been known to fail. GMC engineers need to reassess for a second recall as the issue is not resolved and could lead to devastating injury or death.
Vehicle refuses to turn off due to "shift to park" error being displayed. Vehicle also gives "driver assist unabled. Drive safely" message and ac will not cool and vehicle coolant gauges will not work.
Side blind zone system temporarially unavailable message displayed in dic, and system does not function. I can not rely on the system as it very often does this. This issue started on 12/08/2022. I feel that I am at risk of a crash as I rely on this system for blind spot detection. There are many forums that state that many other 2020 GMC Acadia's have this issue. I feel like this is a gm issue, and the consumer should not be left with the cost of any repair, if necessary. This is a safety risk and could result in death from a crash due to a failure of a safety system.
Driver side blind spot monitor fails to detect vehicles. I first became aware of the problem as I was entering a freeway and nearly caused an accident. I scheduled service at my GMC dealership but had to wait two weeks for an appointment. The system stared working again just before the appointment and the dealer service department could not find a problem. My neighbor's 2021 GMC Acadia has the same issue. Does somebody have to die to correct a safety defect?.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the blind spot detection module malfunctioned due to water intrusion, causing battery corrosion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the blind spot detection module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
I received an error stating “service side detection system” first. Then I started having issues with every error code coming up, side air bag, the side detection lights staying on at all times while engine is on, and I lost my radio entirely. Without my radio I have back up camera! a dealership told me my wire harness is defective, either a frayed wire, corroded wire, and that it is blowing all my fuses. This is before they have completed my service, at my expense. The electrical system runs my car!! side detection system issues are a safety issue!! it seems this is not the first GMC has heard of this but their response is nothing! how can this safety issue be allowed to continue with GMC not taking steps to fix it in a recall?.
Service air bag light and blind spot detection system lights are on.

This is a follow up to my last report. My dealer service dept told me my "side detection modules" blew a fuse. When the fuse blew it should have turned them off. It didn't. The modules stayed on 24/7 until all my electrical components went haywire and burned my battery out. After spending $250 on a new battery, I had issues again with the alerts coming on my dic. After extensive tracing of the electrical issue by my local GMC dealer, he told me the side detection modules staying on 24/7 caused not only my battery to burn out but caused the wires to burn to the rear electrical harness. He stated this is a defect with the modules and this could have caused a fire right under where my three children sit! I now have to wait indefinitely to get the modules that my service dealer ordered because so many people are having this same issue that they are on back order forever! so my service dealer had to turn off the modules after he replaced the fused wires and wire harness and I have to drive with that alert on 24/7. This is a disgrace to GMC that this is a recall for other Acadia years but not my 2016 model! other GMC Acadia owners need to be alerted to this potential serious fire hazard!.
Service side detection system distracts me from driving causing an accident.
Side detection modules swollen causing failure, repair $735. 97.
Blind spot warning light is not working. There is a previous recall for this for 2014-2017 GMC Acadia models for the same issue. The issue has not clearly been fixed with models after 2017.
The side detection alarms kept beeping regardless of any location on the road or in my own driveway. Now I have a "service side detection module failure" warning on the dashboard. Estimates on repair have been in the $800 range and after having spoken to many GMC owners, several have had the same problem. Some have made the repairs, others have not due to the cost.
2017 blind spot detection lights on in both mirrors. Both modules in rear bumber replaced. 2021 blind spot sensors on again and “park assist off” in dic with system not letting me turn back on.
The service side detection system has appeared in the dic due to water intrusion in the sensors. They were originally replaced per the tsb16-na-178 in April of 2019. The issue has since re-occurred 2/18/21 while driving, which jeopardizes my safety. I also understand that this may lead to additional electrical issues and may cause the vehicle to enter limp mode.
I have a 2016 GMC Acadia denali that has a "service side detection" error on the dic. Called in the GMC and there is a special coverage adjustment #n172097060 on this issue. It is supposed to be valid for 6 years / 80,000 miles. My Acadia has 41,000 on it. When GMC entered my VIN, it doesn't show up as being covered?? how can some be covered and some not if they all seem to have this issue?.
Driver side detection blind zone, intermittently comes on, then after several days just stopped working, I replace the blind zone module located under rear bumper, it worked fine for a week and then shows service side detection system, and both sides blind lights on mirrors don't work, all this happened while the vehicle is running.
Car shut off while driving. All electrical went out. Doors all locked while inside, key stuck in ignition. Started with side detection warning and within a few days car completely shut off while driving! huge safety issue! will not restart and still can't get key out of the ignition. Battery is fully charged but no power. Completely dead. There is a known recall on 2014 GMC Acadias for electronic module failure but not our specific vehicle though this seems to be the exact cause of our problems. GMC said they could not help?!.
On 02/10/2022 my side warning detection monitors are both activated/lit up intrmittently while parked or driving indicating faulty operation and therefore replacement. The vehicle has around 120k miles so out of any warranty. But this will be the third or fourth time ( not original ow er so dealer has records) that this has happened. Last time in December 2020 I had an extended warranty that covered the passenger module but was not the "improved" module with some type of casing to address the corrosion causing the failures as they wanted an extra $3-400 for that part. Why they still manufacture the bad part is interesting since they have recognized they have a pro lem with the older part. Have seen other complaints that not fixing these can result in other electrical failures that can be dangerous even an electrical fire was reported from this. Obviously I feel the issue is widespread enough for a blanket recall beyond the one issued for 6 y3ears or 80k miles.
