1 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2014 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

45,000 miles. 2014 Acadia slt2 awd. Power steering failure. Fluid driven power steering is failing, loud whine noise from hydraulic fluid pump. Fluid is full. Steering is very hard to turn, no power assist especially at slower speeds or at a stop. Slightly better if raising engine speed above 2500 rpms.

2 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

I started having steering problems when I would slow down to make a turn on a city street. The steering was very tight. Unsafe condition without warning. I had the power steering unit replaced, then I was told the rack and pinion had metal in them and needed to be replaced. Mechanic was unable to flush out the metal. I picked up the car today after a cost of $2,2oo. Drove home on city streets, same problem only tighter turning. Called the mechanic and was told to return the car. Just luck I have another car to drive. Should be a recall on this very unsafe condition.

3 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/15/2020

First problem is that the power steering is hard to turn when not moving or while driving at slower speeds as if there is no power steering at all. Second problem is the transmission occasionally will not shift from 1st gear which will cause me to pull over to a complete stop then accelerate again allowing it to shift.

4 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

We bought this used car from a dealer drove it about 4 to 5 months and the left signal light failed, so we changed it worked for one day and then went dead again. Turning left from my street the steering was really hard and had problems turning left but I did finally on another occasion the same thing happened. Finally driving suddenly we saw a turn engine off and the engine started making loud noises and went dead in the middle of the street. So we kept gliding with no engine running and went into a parking lot. Lucky for us the car stopped right in the parking lot. Had to be towed few miles to a mechanic that told us the timing chain is broken and in need for new engine. We towed it to another mechanic and the same thing was told. So now it is been sitting at the mechanic's shop for two week waiting for new engine to come in . I can not believe that around 84000 miles this car needs a new engine and it is not cheap at all. The car has a salvage tilte but this does not have anything to do with the problems since too many people have been documenting this problem, steering, electrical and failed engine. Why gm did not recall these cars for these failure. They are putting people and families at risk and we are stuck with the repairs and the bills piling up.

5 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2015 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

I noticed the other day when I was turning my steering wheel it was very hard. No light or warring at all. I checked my power steering fluid and it was full. I'm not able to turn the wheels when I'm not pressing on the gas peddle. I want to my local mechanic and he told me that there should be a recall on these cars. Because he has replaced too many in the 2015 model. If I have them replace the power steering pump it will cost me $1000. This is not a good thing. I almost got into an accident, because I was not able to turn the wheel in time. Thank god the other car moved out of the way. I have young children in my car everyday.

6 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

Steering was hard to turn. The GMC service dept. Found the power steering cooling coil rusted through causing power steering fluid to drain. This vehicle is not old and should not have rusted.

7 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

* transmission was slipping and revving up between gears. Delayed response and clunking sound when it is in reverse. "check engine light" also came on. Barely drove the car to the dealership for repairs. Dealership service advisor scheduled a transmission rebuild. After doing internet search, I saw countless complaints in blogs, sns, etc. There are so many people having this transmission problem. Not acceptable. GMC has powertrain warranty 5 year /100k miles. My warranty expires in four months and gm should provide extended powertrain warranty beyond 5 years based unreliable transmission design/quality. * power steering problem. Power steering is making moaning under low speed driving (in the parking lot, driving around subdivision, etc. ). Noise is coming from the inside steering column area. Also steering is very tight and hard. Complained to dealership multiple times. Dealership replaced the seal twice, but the problem is still there. Dealership told me that gm does not have a fix for this problem.

8 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/19/2012

I was driving slow and when I went to turn the steering was extremely tight. I had told the dealership where I bought it from, from the date of purchase that something was wrong. Finally took it in on 10/19/2012 and was told it was the powersteering pump. It's over $400 to get fixed and I don't have it right now.

9 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/16/2012

I bought this car in Feb 2012 and from the first time I drove it the steering was very tight and makes a clunking nose in the the front end. Took the car in to the dealer and the power steering pump was changed and this fixed the steering when it was hard to turn. Now it's may 2013 and the clunk is still there and was told its the power steering gear and its about 950 dollars to fix. This is crazy there is only about 83,000 miles on my car. I am ready to let the bank have it.

10 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Early part of June, 2014, noticed at very isolated times steering was hard while making very low speed turns. This happened very infrequently during very low speeds such as parking or turning into a small spaces. The intervals of this problem began to increase in July, but only at low speeds. Towards the end of July the steering became harder at turning and the speed became higher at which the event occurred. Beginning of August it became a safety concern when turning corners the power steering would go out and control of the vehicle became difficult. I called the dealer and made an appointment to diagnose the problem. The dealer found the power steering pump and rack of the steering to have slow leaks. The solution was to replace the parts. Fortunately I had purchased an extended warranty as the cost of labor and parts came to over $1,300. Because I have commercial driving experience, I was able to deal with the loss of steering in what could have resulted loss of control of the vehicle. In my opinion, this is a safety concern.
