3 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

Brought it to the GMC dealer to replace the power steering pump which was on recall notice only if there were problems. Loss of power steering at low speed so I took it to dealer. As a result, pump was replaced as well as rack and pinion. Pump covered, rack and pinion not, $1700. The day after I picked up the car, the transmission failed. As I got on the highway, motor revved but transmission did not engage. Was able to make it into the breakdown lane. Had to have a flatbed pick it up and bring it to the transmission shop recommended by the dealer. Transmission replaced. . . $3,140. 00. I feel that I was lucky to have been in the lane closest to the breakdown lane when this happened. Dealer offered no assistance. Eight months past warranty.

4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/27/2014

While driving the transmission did not engage into the next gear and the engine rpm's went very high for a short time and the transmission finally engaged the next gear very roughly. I immediately stopped an placed the vehicle in park. I then placed the vehicle in drive and began to accelerate when the vehicle missed the same gear again. I stopped the vehicle and placed I took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the transmission would have to be rebuilt or replaced. He informed me that this is a major issue with this vehicle and that I should research it on the internet where you can find thousands of the same issue from owners of the same vehicle. The problem that GMC is aware of is a defective wave plate in the transmission that fails, causing the issue. This should be recognized as a defect and GMC should be held accountable.

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

At 72000 miles we had the Acadia serviced because of shifting problems, looked at again several times between them an 108000 when my wife had a near catastrophic failure as the transmission failed re engage while in drive in the middle of a busy intersection and called 911 because of the danger to my daughter, herself and those motorists on the road who couldn't see the hazard lights in the setting sun driving westbound - she narrowly avoided being rear ended and left the vehicle and sat on the embankment until police arrived.

6 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

We are a family of 5 driving along the highway when the check engine light came on. We stopped and put the car into park. When I went to put into drive, the car would not engage. Finally after a few minutes we were able to get the car going again, but the car would not shift itself (automatic transmission). We then had to drive along the side of the highway for 13 miles to the next town with the hazards on at 20 miles per hour. Went to a chevy dealership and after they read the codes, there appears that the transmission is completely out. We were more than 800 miles away from home on vacation in missouri. The car is still in missouri at the dealership, as they will not be able to take the transmission apart until early next week.
