This happened numerous times. Mainly when first starting the vehicle. The abs sensor warning sound would come on and when starting to move the vehicle and engaging the brake pedal for the first time the abs brakes would actually engage(vibrating pedal) and it would feel as though the truck wasn't going to stop. After it did stop and continue to move forward the normal brakes would engage. Then the warning sound/beep would stop but the abs warning light would always stay on. After numerous times happening I brought it back to the dealer I bought it from and they told me I had a defective abs sensor in the right front wheel. I asked them if it was still under my 6 year warranty and they told me no. It would cost me about$1000 to fix. I told them not to fix it. After, I made numerous complaints to different levels of GMC customer service and got nowhere with them. I complained because I felt this was not something caused by me and was obviously a factory defect. After getting nowhere with GMC I brought it to a local mechanic and had it repaired $900. I write this complaint to you because this is dangerous and feel if it happened to my GMC Canyon it probably happened to many others and would force gm to recall them. Thank you.

The abs fault light comes on and the abs system starts trying to over work. This in my opinion is a safety hazard. I have had this looked at and have been told it's a known issue, however no recall. Second issue:hvac system has a known issue where it keeps over heating and the hvac harness has to be replaced, after being burned. This is also a safety issue. My vehicle is out of warranty now. Im sure you have other folks reporting these issues. . . Just look at the forums on the internet. . .

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Canyon. While driving approximately 10 mph pressure was applied to the brake pedal and the pedal began to severely pulsate. It took an increased distance in order to stop the vehicle. An abs fault light illuminated on the dashboard. The failure has since recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. The failure mileage was 24,994 and the current mileage was 25,010. Updated 11/22/10 updated 11/23/jb.
When I try to stop the vehicle after going between 5-10 mph, the abs system "activates" and makes a "grinding sound". It will do this after 3-4 stops and then the abs fault light will come on and the problem stops. If I start the truck and drive faster (15 mph or faster ) then brake, it doesn't do it at the higher speeds.
I purchased 2004 GMC Canyon used from dealership. I took vehicle home and within a couple days the abs light came on and would not turn off. I took vehicle back into the dealership and they looked at it and returned the vehicle to me. They said if it comes back on to let them know. Within a week while driving down the road the abs light came back on and stayed on. Took vehicle back in and they looked at the brakes and found something on them. They removed the gunk as they said and said it was a recall and was no charge for me. I have not found anything about a recall due to the abs staying on.
