2 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 11/05/2019

Been having an issue with the brake light switch at the brake pedal sticking and our brake lights staying on. We notice it mostly after we have parked the truck and turn it off. The brake lights will stay illuminated, not always right away. The brake lights staying illuminated have caused our vehicle to have a dead battery many times. This issue with the brake light switch causing the lights to stay on has actually caused us to have to buy 2 brand new batteries in just over a 12 month period. This issue has killed our battery and left us stranded for hours while waiting for someone to come help us jump the battery. There is a recall out for this brake light switch issue, but this specific year is not included in the recall. Even tho this truck is having the exact same issue the the recall is for. We have been dealing with this issue for over a year now.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

"rear brake lights" lights were not working when I applied pressure to the brake pedal. I was going to work and a driver next to me informed me that both my brake lights are not working as I was at a red light. I was driving on a city street. The result was I replaced both rear brake bulbs after spending 2 hours of identifying the problem thinking it was more complicated. I always check all my lights each month making sure I am in compliance!.

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

Brake light went out. Brake switch was serviced 2 years ago under a recall for the exact same problem. Gm will not replace the part unless I pay for a new one. How can a new part have the same exact problem as in the recall. The cruise control will not work.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

As we were driving on a smooth asphalt dry road the abs light and the brake failure light came on along with an anunciator sound warning. We immediately pulled over and brought the truck to a stop. We tested the brakes by pushing on the pedal and we still had good brakes. We continued carefully on home and inspected the brake fluid which was ok. After turning off and then turning on the key and starting the engine, the abs warning light came back on but the brake failure light was not illuminated. Yesterday, (11/10/2013) our grandson brought his computer analyzer out, hooked it up and determined the failure was in the left front wheel sensor. He did not clear the history from the vehicle's computer. It seems to me this is a problem as this truck has such low mileage. I bought this truck from a Hyundai dealer about the first of August 2013 and have put less than 2,000 miles on it. They told me it had never been wrecked nor does it show any evidence of having been repaired. The previous owner apparently had it serviced on a regular and proper basis and has this all recorded in the back of the book that came with the truck. I am the second owner.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

My husband's brake lights went out on his 2009 GMC Canyon. He took it to a dealer to have it fixed. We read online that there was a recall for his brake light switch. They checked his VIN and said there wasn't anything. It isn't the bulbs, fuse, etc. They "fixed" it and said "it'll either work for the next 5 min or it won't work at all. " and handed him the keys. He drove it and sure enough, the lights went out, again. He took it back and the same thing happened. "it may or may not work, yada yada. . . " why would they hand them the keys plus allow it pass for inspection if it does not work? as far as I am concerned, the work has not been completed. My husband recently got out of the usmc and has yet to find work. We cannot afford to keep taking it back or yet pay for a ticket!!!!.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

Abs failure. 3 months after mfg warranty expired the abs failure light came on. Abs system activates randomly even when not braking, buzzed, abs and brake lights on, then abs failure displayed. Stayed on until it randomly turned off by itself. Daily repeating of problem. Codes said abs sensor failure. Had it replaced, no resolution. Problem kept happening. Had entire front hub assembly replaced with new abs sensor installed at factory, still same problem. Had wiring checked, all ok. Persistent problem for years. Gave up on gm ever fixing it. Apparently on gm Canyon/colorado forums this is a major persistent dangerous problem. Most users opt to disable the abs system because gm cannot provide a solution. Sounds like another of gm's brilliant engineers design failures. Shocked no one has been killed yet. All these vehicles on the road with failing or disabled abs systems and gm hasn't a clue.
