Automatic Transmission problems of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Six problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 2003 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2007

Transmission line mounted too close to catalytic converter resulting in rubbing action that resulted in a hole in the transmission line spraying fluid on hot exhaust parts. Had to pay to have hose replaced. Don't know if the eventual failure of the transmission at 73k miles was related, but had to pay $2700 to get a new one installed.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2006

Parked 2003 GMC Envoy at work. Left work, unable to start truck. Starter did not engage. Unable to move transmission from park to neutral with key in on position and foot on brake. Truck is stuck in park.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2006

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy xl 6 cylinder. I purchased this vehicle new. Always serviced and only highway miles. My transmission gets stuck into 2nd and 3rd gear. It costs me $2300 to repair this issue. No support from dealer or GMC.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2004

1) sequence of events - nothing happens when we try to start. -battery voltage ok, auto-headlights on, bright - instrument panel completely dead -2 hours later, instrument on the miles per hour instrument is going wild, back and forth finally sets at zero, now engine will start. Check engine light is on for the first time - radio looses preset station memory 2) it started about a week; we had problems starting the warm engine. 3) automatic climate control is working sort of, sometime not 4) the check oil came on, at that time there was plenty 5) the backup mirror option is always loosing the input 6) transmission problem light was on for a day some time ago while driving in sb and in 2 wd, called your service and was told to ignore the dealer replaced the ignition switch, a superficial fix as it turned out later when the ignition switch was replaced again. The cause of the problem was not identified.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2004

Vehicle shifted gears without applying the brakes.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2003

I own a GMC Envoy xl. The transmission will not hold the car on an incline. In drive, the car will accelerate backwards down a hill.
