1 Differential Unit problem

The contact owned a 2003 GMC Envoy xl. The contact stated that the vehicle lost control while driving 25 mph on a slightly icy roadway. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. The contact also stated that the limited slip differential system failed to engage during the failure. The contact, as well as a passenger suffered minor injuries during the crash. In addition, the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash suffered minor injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance lot. An authorized dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that they would investigate the vehicle. The failure mileage was 98,630. Updated 01/05/lj updated 01/09/12.

2 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2009

My front differential started to seize up while driving on a major highway. My car would made a grunting noise and slowed to almost a complete stop, good thing it was early morning and the traffic was not heavy. A car or truck could of easily ran into my bumper causing me serious injury or death. I called the repair place right away and they got me in immediately. The diagnosis was the front differential needs to be replaced.

3 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2007

After having several problems with my 2003 GMC Envoy xl such as broken window, 4 wd broken, and many other problems I noticed a humming noise. Took it into the dealership to be serviced along with a bad switch in the driver's side door panel and was told the front differential is bad. It is being fixed now, but was told by several other mechanics that this sort of thing shouldn't happen to a new car and generally the differential should last the lifetime of the vehicle.

4 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2004

Steering failed when in 4 wheel hi also front wheels locked there was a rubbing noise under the vehicle. Sounded like the transmission was falling apart. Had this problem before and told by the dealer can't find anything wrong. Had this vehicle only 4 months. Major problems with 4 wheel drive.

5 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2003

When my vehicle had less than 200 miles on it the check four wheel drive light came on. Whe had only had the car for less than a week. I asked the dealer and they said that as long as it was running fine the would put it on the computer at my 3,000 mile checkup. A few weeks later I started hearing a rubbing noise. I brought it in and they took it for a test drive. They told me that they had swiched it from 2 wd to 4wd high and the noise was gone. It was not. The next day I switched it into awd and there was no noise. That afternoon the front wheels locked up on me when I was going about 30 mph. We had the vehicle towed back to the dealership. They told us that the front differental was litteraly falling apart and have now said they are going to replace the transfer case. The milage on our Envoy is 1263. Needless to say, I am not happy. I purchased a new vehicle so I would not have problems. I have only had it for a month.
