Ten problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2003 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine light would illuminate and the vehicle would stall on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump. The repairs did not remedy the failure. The independent diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and there was loss of engine power. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the sensor pedal, the clutch fan, wiring terminals, and accelerator pedal needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000 and the current mileage was 175,00.
Check engine light illuminated on instrument cluster. Diagnostics indicated a code po 442. This code is indicative of a fuel system leak in the evaporative emission system. Replaced gas cap. Problem not resolved. Filled vehicle with gasoline in October 2010 and several times since. Strong odor of gasoline is present. Each time fuel nozzle fails to shut off fuel from gasoline pump and gasoline is spilled on the ground near driver side rear door creating an environmental and major safety hazard. Vehicle never in accident or modified in any way. Vehicle has 62,000 miles. A courtesy general motors repair program is in place for these vehicles if the long wheelbase models. Numerous occurrences in the short wheelbase models also. This is a known defect according to the gm dealer that services the vehicle, but they want over $1500 to replace the fuel tank and the tank unit which includes the fuel pump, gauge, and hose connections. There is no guarantee this will fix the diagnostic code that sets the check engine lamp, or the problem of gasoline leakage/spillage. The vehicle will not pass a state safety inspection and therefore is not allowed on the road. A forced recall should absolutely be made for these vehicles. At a cost of over $35,000 for this vehicle, and the hazards it represents, it is a total travesty that gm refuses to stand behind their product.
2003 GMC Envoy - check engine light & reduced engine power light. Vehicle slows to 20 mph losing power. My daughter was almost hit in the side of the vehicle as she lost power in the intersection. Thankfully, the oncoming vehicle was able to stop.
Car: GMC Envoy 2003 when driving on a highway check engine light came on. "reduced power" light came on too. Engine rpms dropped down to 1100. Barely avoided crash. Made it to the parking lot. Restarted engine few times same problem. Executed "clear change oil light" procedure few times. It cleared "check engine" light and everything is normal now. The vehicle is equipped with "change oil" timer and light. It appears that when timer expired the computer rather than turning "change oil" light on enables "check engine" light and drastically reduces engine power. When it happens on a highway it can easily lead to a crash. I plan to take the vehicle to a dealership in two days. Thank you.
After starting the vehicle, letting it warm, the consumer entered the highway at 65 mph , the vehicle suddenly lost power, the check engine light and the engine power reduced light came on. The vehicle would only do 10 mph. The consumer will have the vehicle serviced since this is the second occurrence. Whenever the vehicle was cold, the engine light would come on and then the vehicle would lose total speed.
1) sequence of events - nothing happens when we try to start. -battery voltage ok, auto-headlights on, bright - instrument panel completely dead -2 hours later, instrument on the miles per hour instrument is going wild, back and forth finally sets at zero, now engine will start. Check engine light is on for the first time - radio looses preset station memory 2) it started about a week; we had problems starting the warm engine. 3) automatic climate control is working sort of, sometime not 4) the check oil came on, at that time there was plenty 5) the backup mirror option is always loosing the input 6) transmission problem light was on for a day some time ago while driving in sb and in 2 wd, called your service and was told to ignore the dealer replaced the ignition switch, a superficial fix as it turned out later when the ignition switch was replaced again. The cause of the problem was not identified.
The consumer smelled gas, took the vehicle in and the fuel rail was replaced. Later gas was smelled again, there was a vapor emission leak. Then the check engine light came on and the fuel tank is being replaced twice.
While driving about 65 mph on the highway engine check light appeared on the dashboard.
While driving at any speed engine check light came on and stayed on. Dealer checked this problem on three occasions. On each occasion the spark plugs were changed, and the battery cable bolt was replaced.
