Carrier/rack problems of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Two problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Check engine light diagnosed as dtc code p0442 (evap leak). Smoke test revealed crack in fuel tank assembly where filler neck hose meets the fuel tank. GMC issued a bulletin no. : 05-06-04-014a on March 21, 2005 regarding the above referenced dtc code and its possible connection to a fracture in the fuel tank, but has not issued a recall or other remedy for this defect. Vehicle is unsafe due to fuel tank fracture. In addition, vehicle cannot be registered because it cannot pass smog test with check engine light on. Cost for repair is $1,300-$1,500.

2 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2005

The consumers roof rack on the vehicle blew off while driving. The roof rack was hanging on the vehicle,the other hit the road and bounced on the turnpike. The driver saw the other vehicle swerving to miss the roof rack, but no accident occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired, but wanted to file a complaint first.
