72 problems related to gasoline fuel system have been reported for the 2005 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. The gas gauge had started having problems at 60,000 miles. It completely stopped working at 77,000 to 80,000 miles. I bought the car used in 2008 with only 45,000 miles. My job has me on the highway a lot. I tried to estimate the miles. But this is very dangerous I have ran out of gas on highway 820 at 260 miles after filling up. I ran out on highway 30 at 320 miles. In the country on private government property with no one to be found at 150 miles, every time I completely filled the car up with gas before resetting the fuel gauge. I can not afford to get it fixed. I can not trade the car in. I am a single mother twith three children that has been blessed so far to run out with out them in the car. I did realize so many others were having the same problem.
2005 GMC Envoy fuel gauge inaccuracies. Hed to replace the fuel sensor. At dealership. Had less than 50,000 miles on vehicle when the problem occurred. Contacted GMC customer support to see if they would help with thecosts of repairing the vehicle. After 3 months of working with them they denied my request. Had to pay for the diagnostics adn theinstall of the part which came to approx. $450. 00.
Out of nowhere my front head lights went out. Its not the fuse or the bulbs, both front low lights went out. The high beams work. There is no power going to the lights and I have to buy a new switch. I also had to replace the engine almost a year ago because the o rings went up. The gas gauge is broken and my passenger window will not go down. I feel so stuck with this car!.
Fuel gauge just stopped working. Is always on e. Even when I fill it up. . Gas light constantly on and dinging. I know this is a problem in Envoys and I feel GMC should be liable for correcting the problem. Mileage range is huge so it is hard to travel and know when to get gas. Especially on the interstate when gas stations are not always in range.
When I fill up the gas gauge stays on empty for a long time, this happens every time I fill up.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated after refueling, the fuel gauge displayed a reading of empty. The vehicle would also perform as if it were going to stall. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Gas gauge not working properly.
I have had 3 fuel gauge failures in GMC SUV's I have owned. Within thelast 3 years. This appears to tie in with the current investigation of false readings on the fuel guages.
Fuel sensor started messing up, not reading gas correctly. Now if will not move when gas is filled up.
When I fill it completely full with gas on my 2005 Envoy it says that its empty. I have to drive almost 50 miles or more for it to register right. Also one time when I was backing out of a parking stall it just quit not very safe I could have been hit by another car.
Gas gauge not working on my 2005 GMC Envoy xl. From all the complaints sounds like the fuel leveling sensor went out. Only 70,000 miles . I think with all the complaints this should be a recall.
Fuel gage does not work.
Fuel gauge not working correct ran out of gas.
My 2005 GMC Envoy gas gauge began to become erratic in November of 09. At that time it would work some times and not others. After a few weeks it stopped working in any manner and constantly fluctuates up and down, causing the low fuel indicator to go on and off. This occurs even when the vehicle has just been filled with gas and the gas cap tightened. The only way to monitor gas at this time is through tracking mileage. Vehicle will randomly stall when idle. The stalling is noted to be occurring more frequently the longer this goes unrepaired. Stalling at lights, in parking lots and while backing up puts us at risk of being hit by another vehicle. Also the inability to accurately monitor the amount of gas in the vehicle puts myself and my family at risk of being stranded while traveling. The only other person I know with this same make and model has the same problem. Correction is replacement of the part which is between $600 and $800.
I thought my vechicle had a unique problem, after recently being taken advantage of by GMC + their dealer, I have done some research and realize the problem is widespread. The electronic gas gauge + needle stopped working at 90 000. I recieved a letter stating they would pay for half the repair to the fuel level sensor and I took the vechicle to be repaired on 10/20/11. Waited all day and watched the mechanic test drive my vechicle,I was walked to the cashier + paid 146. 14, pulled out of parking lot and thought they forgot to reset the computor as gauge + dash were not working. I immediatly returned and was told the sensor was working but there was a problem with the cluster panel + that would cost 900. 00. This is a major safety hazard and GMC should own up to the defect and recall the vehicles affected. I ve run out of gas on several occasions, once on the highway with small children at night.
Same problem everybody else is having with there Envoys, floating fuel needle, now my check engine light is on which occasionally will go off, but now I can't pass emission inspection because my check engine happens to be on, and now I am forced to get the problem fixed in order to pass inspection. Thanks gm, just what I need a week before christmas. Only 60,00 miles on car and I have to deal with this. Could possibly be last gm car bought in this house.
I just purchased this vehicle knowing the gauge did not work. The info I have posted is info from the individual I purchased it from. He just set the fuel used option to keep track.
Fuel gauge issues.
Fuel sensor no longer works on vehicle. Although this doesn't appear to be a safety issue per se, its a manufacturing defect with the vehicle that GMC has recognized however they continue to put stipulations around vehicles that have this issue that they are willing to fix. For example, the vehicle must be under 10yrs of age or under 120,000 miles whichever comes first. This is ridiculous. I think that GMC should be required to fix this known problem regarding of how many miles or years of age is on the vehicle.
The gas gauge stopped working and shows that the vehicle is on empty. The "low fuel' indicator on the dash will blink randomly and "ding" to draw my attention to it. The gas cap was replaced a week later but the problem has not been resolved. It continues to read "empty. " since then the speedometer has also stopped working. The speedometer hand has completely dropped below the 120 mph mark, although for a few weeks it would register that I was driving much faster than the speed of traffic around me. Moreover, it would register 30 mph when the vehicle was completely stopped. Yet, it has since stopped working altogether. The vehicle has also recently stalled in reverse and several times has surged/accelerated quickly when I am driving slowly and push the gas pedal to accelerate. I have an appointment with the local GMC dealership and have called the national GMC dealer to document my complaint(s).
The fuel gauge does not work. It reads empty and the gas light comes on after getting gas. The gauge moves up and down while driving for a few days after getting gas. I had the dealer fix this in 02/08. It is already broken again.
A fuel gauge stopped working. I had to pay to have the GMC dealer replace the fuel level sensor.
I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that is having a known problem with the gas gauge and the sender unit. Apparently numerous customers have been experiencing this issue on their gm suvs and there has been no recall to fix this issue. There needs to be a recall so customers are having to foot the bill for the manufacturers faulty workmanship.
At 65,000 miles the fuel gauge failed without warning. Gauge dropped to empty immediatly after a fill and has since remained there. Nothing has been done to correct the problem as I was told by the local GMC dealer it was out of warranty, it was not covered under past fuel gauge recalls, and I refuse to reward GMC for supplying faulty product by paying the quoted $800-$1000 to replace it. The safety consequences of running out of fuel are extensive, from slowing and being rear ended to being hit alongside the road while going for gas.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact experienced several failures with the fuel gauge in her vehicle. After filling up the vehicle with gasoline, the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was empty. After driving on the interstate at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge began to display the correct fuel level. The contact stated that the fuel gauge displays incorrect information during inner city driving. However, once on the interstate, the gauge operates normally after driving for a couple of miles. The manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 68,500 and current mileage was 69,387.
Faulty fuel level sensor does not work, indicating incorrect levels of gas available in vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem for the last two years.
Gas gauge stopped working. This has also happened on three other gm SUV's (1999-2005 model years) in my family. Coincidence? no way. There should be a recall. This is a very expensive repair and one consumers should not have to pay for. I have not seen this happen on any other vehicle that I or any member of my family has driven (vw, Chrysler, Honda, Subaru, Jeep) but that the same part has failed on four gm SUV's in the same family tells me that this is a wide-spread problem and there is a defect in this part.
Gas gauge no longer working on a 2005 Envoy with only 75,000 miles.
Fuel system issues for 2005 GMC Envoy. Fuel gauge stopped working properly in late 2008. Reads empty all the time regardless of fuel level. Today, 03/03/09, I experienced a degraded power symptom (and warning on the dash) related to the fuel system. The vehicle had to be shut down and restarted to continue driving.
I started the vehicle one day and the fuel gauge failed to work. It is a continuous fail. Nothing has been done to repair it. Cost of part is approximately $280 at local napa store.
Gas gauge reads empty all the time. Low fuel alarm will go off randomly even though their is fuel in the car. Because of this I never know how much gasoline I really have. I have ran out of gas and been stranded on the side of the road b/c of this.
My 2005 GMC Envoy's gas gauge has been broke since it had 70,000 miles. It now has 104,000, but I have been tracking fill ups by mileage for over three years now. Everyone I know that has a trailblazer or Envoy has the same issue.
Inaccurate fuel gauge resulted in running out of gas twice while driving on the expressway; one of the events nearly resulted in an accident.
The fuel guage stoped working stalling out on the road.
The instrument lights regularly blink in and out on my 2005 Envoy. There have even been times when the headlights blink off and on for no known reason. Has happened a few times over the last 3 or 4 years. Scary stuff! plus, I have read on several forums that this is a common problem with these vehicles. One fellow said he took it into the shop and they could not find the problem. Recall - and now the problems with the gas gauge and check engine light. My husband was laid off from his job and we can't even afford the 1/2 that gm is offering to fix the thing in their recall. If they knew it was a failure of their equipment why are they not paying the entire amount?.
