Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The speedometer has gotten stuck at 120 mph & will not reset. . . This has happened off & on & I was usually able to reset the speedometer by turning on and off the vehicle several times. . . But now, it has officially stayed at 120mph. I am unable to tell how fast I am actually driving. I know GMC had similar issues with their Chevrolet vehicles - & that resulted in a class action lawsuit to have them issue a recall. . . . I would really like to see a recall on this. . . It is unsafe to drive this way!!.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2012

My 2005 Envoy speedometer stops working or sticks. It also does not give correct speed. I currently have to rely on my gps for speed control. Are there any recalls on my vehicle for this problem?.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

I purchased my Envoy approx. 1 year ago. I have 105,000 miles on it currently. My speedometer would get stuck at 50 mph but would seem to always end up fixing itself. Now it is pegged at 120 and has been that way for 2 months. # 5 on my ac/heat blower is not working. My engine light is on. My windshield wipers turn on every time I start my car. I can not turn them off , usually after about 30 wipes it will turn off. This is very frustrating to me. As I am researching these problems on the internet, hoping to find some sort of recall, I find many other Envoy owners with the same problems!!!! I really feel that GMC should be responsible for this as many people are in this situation. I have to say with this many problems, it's the vehicle not the people and I think GMC needs to back their product and take care of these issues.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that all of the gauges on the instrument panel began to display improper readings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The electrical system was reset. After a few weeks, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

12 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2011

Tachometer initially failed, now speedometer is also not working. Have heard/seen multiple other people with this complaint on Envoys and trailblazers.

13 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2010

Speedometer stuck at 60mph while traveling. Didn't matter if stopped, accelerating, decelerating, or turning vehicle off. Turning off the car and restarting it seemed to cause the speedometer to decrease, some, finally getting it to register 20mph. Upon restarting the vehicle in the morning the speedometer still registered 20 mph and upon acceleration the speedometer fluctuated finally settling at 80mph. We were unable to tell how fast we really are traveling because the speedometer is wacko. Stopping and turning off the vehicle does not help. The speedometer does not reset to zero it is now stuck at 80mph. Our local gm dealer advised that no recall has been issued but an extended warranty to 75,000 miles was offered on the vehicle for this particular problem. Our vehicle is over the mileage for the warranty. Gm is aware there is a problem with wacko speedometers hence the warranty extension. One would assume being able to monitor ones speed in a vehicle is an important safety concern.

14 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2010

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer indicated an inaccurate speed. When driving at 20 mph, the speedometer may show a reading of 80 mph. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

15 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

The cluster doesn't work or works when it wants to. I have had this problem for 3 to 4 years the speedometer works when it wants to but for the most part it doesn't. The gas gauge always reads empty and the oil pressure reads above 80. They sent me a letter yesterday to say they are now fixing the fuel gauge if you have less then 120,000 miles but I have more then that now if they would have fixed the problem years ago when they knew about it I would have been ok. They still are not fixing the speedometer and I think that is more of a safety issue then the gas gauge.

16 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer did not register the correct speed while driving. While driving 30 mph the gauge was registering 100 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 98,795.

17 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

My 2005 GMC Envoy is experiencing a problem where the speedometer will not slow down. It does however accelerate. So now when I am parked my vehicle shows that I am doing well over 120 mph. I have to use my gps unit to check my speed, this is a huge safety concern and something needs to be done about this. I have done research on the internet and this problem is afflicting many people. Seeing as I helped keep gm from going out of business shouldn't they help me?.

18 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the instrument panel stopped working which made it impossible to determine the speed and how much fuel was in the vehicle. The failure also caused the headlights to flicker. The vehicle was not inspected by the dealer or a local mechanic to determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 105,189.

19 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

2005 Envoy faulty instrument cluster contacted gm customer service and was informed that there is nothing they can do at this time for this year model. Not covered by bulletin: gm speedometer "special coverage adjustment" 07187a 07187b. Just purchased this vehicle used and because the dealership I purchased it from does not believe that it is a safety issue they will not cover it.

20 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

The speedometer stops working periodically. Sometimes it doesn't work at all and then days like today, it goes all the way up to 120 mph when I am only going 50-55 mph!.

21 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

Driving on interstate 91 south, glanced down to see my speedometer indicated I was traveling 75 miles perhour let off the accelerator to decrease speed when I realized the vehicle behind mine had to pull around my vehicle to avoid hitting mine in the rear. Several miles later I discovered my speedometer indicated I was traveling 120mph although keeping up with traffic. As I pulled of highway and hit my brakes the speedometer decreased in speed, although when at a complete stop speedometer indicated I was traveling 30 mph. This causes some concern since I only have 41,119 miles on my 2005 Envoy xuv. I contacted GMC and was told there was no recall on my vehicle and scheduled a service appointment with a GMC dealer to figure out the problem. This issue after some research had been an ongoing problem and find it difficult a recall has not been made for this issue. Speed is a hazard, that's why speed limits are posted, that's also why speedometers are put into vehicles in the first place. Lets pray for once that someone is not injured simply because the driver could not afford to spend the money for an issue that could have been corrected by gm.

22 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Speedometer failed. It now either displays no speed or an inaccurate reading.

23 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

Gas gauge not working on my 2005 GMC Envoy xl. From all the complaints sounds like the fuel leveling sensor went out. Only 70,000 miles . I think with all the complaints this should be a recall.

24 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2009

I own a 2005 GMC Envoy and the speedometer stopped working about 3 weeks ago. I took it to the dealership for repair and was advised that they did not know what the issue was but since they had removed the battery and re-connected it that the speedometer should work correctly. I worked correctly for 2 days.

25 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2009

Instrument panel fuel level indicator shows incorrectly. At first it would show half tank or more when in fact there was less gas. Now the fuel level indicator shows empty at all times. The audible fuel warning for low fuel also rings constantly. After running out of gas in the middle of nowhere on several occasions the vehicle was taken in to the local dealership. The repair was too costly. We were however charged a $100 fee just for the GMC dealer to look at it. We now track fuel using the trip computer. Look online for some help I was amazed to find out that many, many, many people have and are having the same issue.

26 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

2005 GMC speedometer failure. Stops working and gets stuck on the 120miles point even when the car is off and not just driving. Occurs after about a few minutes of driving and, after online and offline research, it turns out a lot of people have these problem with some GMC trucks, especially the GMC Envoys models. And gm is not doing anything or refusing to fix it since it is a manufacturers default. There hasn't been any recalls to address this issue and there are even lawsuits in some states about this. My truck is not even old only 52,000 miles and I don't drive a lot just to work and home.

27 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2009

2005 GMC Envoy has erratic speedometer. Not safe to drive when speedometer keeps getting stuck.

Updated 03/15/11 updated 05/23/11.

29 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2009

The speedometer on my 2005 GMC Envoy xl started acting erratically and at any time can show that I'm doing 70 when I am stopped, be pegged, or sometimes it works. I have to use my gps to determine my speed. I took it to a gm dealer to see if there was a recall regarding this issue because I had heard that there was for vehicles up to 7 years old or up to 70,000 miles. The dealer told me there were no recalls for the vehicle and that it would cost $400 to replace the entire gauge cluster.

30 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

The speedometer quit working.

31 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

32 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

#1 problem-- I only have 40,000 miles on my car and bought it less than a year ago. My fuel tank does not work-- it floats and I never know how much gas I have in my tank #2 problem- driving home last night-- I looked down at my speedometer and it was stuck over 120 mph. I am very unhappy with GMC and tell everyone I know never to buy any chevy vehicles-- these problems should not be happening so soon on a newer vehicle.

33 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2008

My speedometer gauge works when it wants. The car can be in park, however speedometer may read 30mph. Just recently I was traveling out of state and while on the interstate, my speedometer quit working and the needle went to zero. And in a like manner, on the way back, my speedometer read ten miles below my actual speed and almost caused me to get a ticket. From asking around many chevy and GMC vehicles with a similar gauge face have experience a problem with one of their gauges. Please help me. The dealership says the part cost around $300 plus the price of labor. I have had one problem after another with my GMC Envoy xl 2005.

34 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

I have GMC Envoy 2005. The speedometer is not working. Basically sometimes it gets stuck past 120, sometimes at 0 or in between. I could be driving 30 mph and the speedometer will be showing 110 mph. This is a known defect on GMC 2005 Envoy, but the company is only taking a responsibility on models 2002-2004. I have called around dealer shop and they said GMC is only willing to fix if the car is between 2002 and 2005, eventhough this is a known problem. Almost about everyone I talked to, who owns GMC Envoy 2005 indicated to have this problem. I really think GMC should own to its defect and take care of this issue.

35 Instrument Panel problem
