106 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2005 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would read empty when the fuel tank was full and the fuel gauge would read full when the tank was empty. The vehicle was not inspected for the failure or repaired. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy xl 370. After adding fuel to the vehicle to its capacity the fuel gauge did not display that the tank was full. The contact stated the fuel gauge would then display various improper readings. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed the fuel level sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 67,000. The VIN was unavailable.
2005 GMC Envoy - gas gauge malfunction - the gas gauge will register empty even though you just filled up the tank. After you drive for several miles it starts to register slowly, but does not register accurately.
Fuel gauge suddenly stopped working properly after fill up. Moves from empty, to 1/2 full, to 1/4 full to empty, back to 1/4 full, back to empty. I can't determine how much gas in may tank. This could cause me to unexpectedly run out of gas while driving in traffic and cause an accident. This is apparently a very common problem in GMC Envoy and Chevrolet trailblazers. There is no warning in the owners manual or suggestion that the gauge and sensors be replaced. I understand that this is an expensive repair - between $600 and $900.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated after refueling the fuel tank to the full capacity level, the fuel gauge would register an empty fuel tank. The inaccurate reading was consistent. The independent mechanic was notified of the faulty fuel tank and they advised that the vehicle be taken in for diagnosis. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
I own a 2005 GMC Envoy. While driving 45 mph, the I noticed that the fuel light illuminated on the instrument panel. This indicated that the vehicle was low on fuel, but in reality, the vehicle was full of gasoline. I noticed that when the fuel tank is full, the gauge will display half of a tank. When half of a tank of fuel is in the vehicle, the gauge displays that it is empty. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for inspection and no repairs were performed. I am in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 76,000 and current mileage was 77,500.
Fuel level sensor failure. Fuel gage fails to go past 1/4 tank.
2005 GMC Envoy gas gauge reads empty when recently filled up and constantly fluctuates up and down. Apparently the fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in the vehicle unknowingly running out of fuel, stalling and being rear ended by another vehicle.
I was getting my tank filled with gas and the fuel gauge needle pegged out past full, then bounced down to empty. It did this three times then went back to full. Since then it has continued to bounce around. The only way we knew if we had enough gas was to fill it and use the trip meter. The fuel gauge has ceased to move at all since April 2011. The check engine light has been on continuously as well since the incident. I love the vehicle but it is a major pain to keep track of the fuel when 3 people in the household rely on it. I looked online to see if there was a recall, only to learn this is a common complaint and nothing is being done about it. I priced a new cluster and it was over $500. Needless to say we still have to keep track of the fuel with our trip meter. Gm should step up to the plate and fix this issue. They had no problem taking a bailout. My family has been buying gm products for years, however, no one in my family will ever own another gm product if they can't do the right thing for their consumers, and do it now. Not 5 years from now!!.
I own a 2005 GMC Envoy and for the last two months have been dealing with a faulty fuel gauge. . . . I saw online that a good number of other gm owners are having the same issue. My gauge just keeps reading emplty tank. . . . . . Even when totally filled, will reset to read quarter of tank of gas when it's still just about a full tank of fuel. Either bad sensor or brain box. . . . . . Made in china!!! any help . . Thank you gregory janz (262)966-7183 or @ stonebancfinancial@earthlink. Net.
Though I had 1/4 tank of gas in my car, I put in 13. 5 gallons of fuel. When I turned on the engine, instead of the gas gauge showing full, the indicator dropped down to empty and the "low fuel" lights went on. This continued with the indicator showing 1/4 full, empty, full, empty until several days later, when it settled at 3/4 full. Every time I have added fuel to the gas tank, the same thing happens. I have been forced to write down my milage and keep track of how far I have driven in order to estimate when I need fuel. I cannot trust what the gauge reads.
Fuel gauge is faulty. Will not record exact capacity of fuel in tank. This lead to the vehicle running out of gas during operation. Avoided a crash, just barely.
On 1/31/2011 my 2005 GMC Envoy showed my gas was down to a quarter of a tank. I stopped to fill up before a snow storm came in and put 16 gallons of unleaded fuel into my tank. Immediately after my gas gauge went to empty and my gas light came on. It went up to a quarter of a tank and then went back down again. It is still showing empty, with the gas light on, and I know it has a full tank of gas.
Gas guage malfunctions on my 2005 GMC Envoy xl. Fuel level was at half a tank when I decided to top it off before a snowstorm hit. Guage read full but once I started driving it started to decrease and noticed the remaining miles left were also decresing until low fuel light came on. Put car in park and it started rising again. Drove and it would go up and down. Parked overnight and restarted the next day and guage read low fuel and indicator light was on. Drove a little then gas level went to normal and started fluctuacting. This has now happened for about a week and a half.
I have a 2005 Envoy and I am having issues with the fuel gauge and the speedometer cluster. I fill up the tank and it does not read full, it continues to read empty. While driving my son back to school with my three small children in the car the speedometor just stopped working. It was showing that I was going 120 miles when I was only going 40 ish. The other thing that shocks me is that there has not been a recall on these issues. It has to be some sort of defect because there are so many consumers with the same issues.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and would not move whether the fuel tank was empty or full to capacity. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer for repairs or diagnostic testing. The contact stated that the faulty fuel gauge could potentially cause the vehicle to run out of fuel without knowing and could cause a crash. The failure mileage was 50,000.
As I was driving down the interstate I noticed that my fuel gauge started moving back and forth repeatedly. Originally it always said that I had a full tank of gas, but now it tends to read that I am almost out of gas even when I have just filled up.
Fuel gauge problems. . . . My fuel gauge has been floating from 1/2 a tank to empty for the past few weeks and now it the fuel light just stays on even when there is gas in the car. After running for a while the gauge will say there is gas and then it will go back down to empty.
My 2005 GMC Envoy xl fuel gauge is not working. At 1/4 tank, I filled up the tank, started the engine and the fuel needle went past empty and light came on. After many re-starts, days the gauge is still not working correctly. As I drive now with a full tank the gauge needle continues to slowly go up and go down with driving.
One day I filled up my gas tank and it read empty when I drove away. It has read empty ever since with the exception of moving slightly above e for a few mininute while driving or after filling the tank again. I have seen all the complaints on here and am hoping for a recall. I fill up every other day just to be sure I don't run out of gas. This first happened about 6 months ago. My Envoy is a 2005 with about 85k miles.
My 2005 GMC Envoy's fuel gauge has failed. It now reads as "empty", no matter how much fuel is in the tank. To my knowledge, there is no easy or inexpensive fix for this problem.
Defective gas gauge in 2005 Envoy, only has 56,000 miles on it. Gauge bounces erratically, and even after filling up the tank the gauge shows empty. Problem just started last week and now happens daily - there is no reliable way to tell how much gas I actually have. Nothing has been done to correct the problem, but I noticed on the internet that this is a wide-spread problem for this vehicle.
I bought a 2005 GMC Envoy roughly 2 years ago with 67k and am experiencing issues with the fuel sensor. When I fill up with gas the sensor reads tank as empty directly after and seems to fluctuate to whatever it wants the rest of the time. Upon researching the internet with this issue it appears that several other consumers are having the same problems and GMC is not willing to help because it's not a safety risk. I personally do see this as a safety risk, if you don't pay proper attention you could run out of gas and be stranded anywhere. When I found the link to this website and form and thought it was worth a shot to hopefully get this issue resolved for myself and the many others that spend their hard earned money on these vehicles.
The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. The fuel level sending unit has a variable resistor attached to a float inside the fuel tank. As you use fuel, the float changes position (downwards) causing the variable resistor to change value. The change in resistance causes a change in the voltage sent to the fuel gage. My p0463 error is saying that the variable resistor is showing high input, instead of a typical small value. This means that the variable resistor or something else inside the sender unit is causing the ecm to "see" an invalid voltage on the fuel gage circuit. If the voltage is too high then the resistance is too high. Possibly a bad connection between the ecu and the sender or a grounding problem.
The fuel sensing system has failed. The first symptom was a fuel gauge registering 0 and a check fuel level message after I had just filled the tank. For a period of time, the gauge would slowly climb to slightly above half full, but often return to 0 with the message occurring whenever stopping the car or on engine startup. Now the gauge seldom goes above a quarter full, even though I typically keep the tank more than half full. I am able to estimate fuel consumed using the trip odometer, but this is not satisfactory. This has been going on for a year and the dealer is unwilling to accept responsibility for fixing it.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that after filling his gas tank, he noticed that the fuel gauge gave an incorrect reading; at times it would read full and on other occasions it would read empty when he filled up the tank. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My 2005 GMC Envoy is doing the same thing with the fuel system. I will fill up & the gas gauge will tell me there is no gas in it until so many miles and it still wont tell me there is a full tank , it will just creep up a little. Just from reading all the other complaints about the fuel system from 05 & 06 models there should be a recall before someone really gets hurt.
2005 GMC Envoy gasoline gauge failure. Reads different levels of fuel regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. Will go up and own on its own. Low fuel alarm will sound even with full tank of fuel. Started sept 2010.
My fuel gauge stoped working in my 2005 Envoy at approximately 40,000 miles. The fule gauge indicates that the car is out of fuel after fill the tank full. I have noticed numerous complaints about this problem and have also received a letter from gm stating that they are aware of the problem and will cover up to 50% of repair as my warrant has expired. The problem with only covering 50% is paying with for my half of the repair. I have been unable to come up with approximatley the $200 for the repair therefore unable to have it repaired. I spoke with gm cusotmer service and they informed me that was my option. When I asked why there has not been a recall on the problem they informed me that I should contact the NHTSA. My concern is that I live in a state with cold weather that requires that car to warm up prior to driving. So I was keeping track of my mileage knowing when I needed to fill up with gas. Although, this will not be accurate in winter and afraid that my spouse (primary driver of this vehicle) will get stranded on the road. I hope if/when this happens it is not during a snow storm where an auto accident will then become likely. When talking to gm along with the fuel sensor I expresses concerns about other issues that I have been having. For example, my license plate light stopped working, changed the bulb and checked the fuses and still does not work; along with heat issues and was informed to take in for diagnosis.
For the last few months my 2005 GMC Envoy denali has had repeated problems with the fuel gauge. After re-fueling the vehicle, the gauge will go to empty and illuminate the empty tank warning light. The check engine light also comes on. Within a few miles the fuel gauge will begin to fluctuate wildly for a period of time, making it impossible to know how much gas is in it. The fuel gauge sometimes begins to operate again after the car has been driven for a few days. Car has become unsafe because it is difficult to determine how much fuel is in it and empty tank sensor "cries wolf. " also, the fuel gauge has begun to register a full tank when really the gas tank is near empty. Once you start driving the fuel gauge begins to fall slowly until about 10 minutes later it finally registers the proper gas level. . . I've thought my husband filled up the tank and almost run out of gas because the fuel gauge didn't tell me I was out of gas until I was on the highway stuck in traffic - away from a nearby gas station. The trip odometer is not an exact science so it cannot be relied upon. (mpg vary depending out temperature, city vs. Highway miles, mph, etc). Message boards show that this is a common problem and eventually lead to the car stalling unexpectedly, even during highway travel. . Read more...
I am the owner of a 2005 GMC Envoy. On August 20, 2010, I took my car to fill up prior to taking a trip from maryland to virginia. Once I filled up, got in the car and turned on the ignition, the gas guage did not move from empty to full. As I continued to drive (somehwere around 60 miles) the gas guage moved to 1/2,then a 1/4 tank. It has been all downhill since. I took the car to the dealer on 10/25/10 (mileage was at 77263) and was told that it would cost over $1000 to repair the sensor which they are stating as the issue. Being out of warranty at this point, I have not had it repaired as I cannot afford this type of expense. I basically drive estimating my mileage after every fill up which is very dangerous. In December 2010, I got stranded because my car stalled on the entrance highway to I-95 without gas, thank god that I have aaa. Now I hear that there is an investigation into the GMC Envoy for this same exact problem. . Read more...
2005 GMC Envoy the fuel gage reads "low fuel" even when the tank is full. I am a mother of four. I am constantly on the road with my children. I am very afraid of running out of gas while driving through an intersection or being stranded on the side of the road with my children. I cannot afford to pay for someone to 'figure out' what the problem is. I feel GMC should figure it out and fix it. I know I am not the only person with this problem. I have done lots of research on the internet and I have talked to many other Envoy owners in my town with the same problem.
Gas gauge failure - it's a dangerous situation causing stalling , after filling up tank gauge registers "empty" , then will float between 1/4 full and empty, fuel light goes on , indicating I need gas but I know I have just filled it up -.
Fuel gage started to read incorreclty after filling tank - initially would drop to empty and then read correclty after driving about 100 miles - now reads incorrectly all the time. After filling it will show empty and will never read more a quarter tank full.
The fuel level reads empty when I have just filled the tank. Then when I drive for little while the level reads half full then goes back to empty. There is no way to tell how much gas is in the tank. The fuel level gauge is sometimes moving back fast to empty while driving.
