1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

The initial time (3/14) it occurred, I was out of town with my family, embarrassed to say the least. However, mainly uncomfortable, tired, and frustrated because my 87 years old dad was stranded for hours as well as my 66 years old sister who is recovering from cancer. This problem was a serious problem because of our location. We had gone to get dinner and ice cream after getting ice cream we back in the vehicle for it would not start. I called 911 no police ever showed nor would even stop to assist. After 2 1/2 hours, we contacted a church member to find out about a mechanic in the area that could possibly come check it out. Another church member came to check it first, by now 3 hours have lapsed and the vehicle starts. After this it has happened on three (3) separate occasions with me (3/19, 3/20, & 3/21) but my mechanic said it happened with him 3 or 4 times while he was driving it to check it out and while it was sitting just running not being driven. I was on the interstate once, once driving, and once parked and it would not start. The times I was by myself once was on the interstate, another was going through an intersection, and once was in a high crime area where I felt very unsafe for my vehicle and myself. My mechanic replaced the crankshaft and camshaft sensors and the problem persists. I had a diagnostic test performed but was told the items listed on the test may be the problem. I have also had a problem with it accelerating while driving as if the gas is not distributing properly. It was as if it was choking up as if there was a clog. A dangerous place to be in traffic or going across a railroad track, which it has occurred several times with me. I actually was almost rear ended on the interstate.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2008 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

GMC used cheap bolts on their v8 motor's exhaust manifolds. I have two broken bolts on one side and 1 on the other. Carr of vancouver gave me a quote of $ 2374. 00 plus tax to fix this problem. They said it was a well known problem with all of the v8 motors by GMC. I contacted GMC and they refuse to do anything about this. I have researched it on the internet and there are hundreds of people who have had this same problem. The question isn't if this will happen to one of their vehicles but when it will happen. It is such a wide and known problem a company has actually made came out with a bracket to fix this problem. I don't feel that this should be a consumer problem but it should be a manufacturer problem. I would appreciate any help. I feel that they should have to recall these defective bolts and replace them with the right ones. I am not out for any kind of settlement or scam all I want is my Envoy fixed. Kral auto parts makes the bracket. . Read more...

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/14/2013

This problem is with the rear door 3rd brake light spoiler. Brackets holding it on broke. . Believe it to be a design fault after talking with junkyards and dealers about the problem. Junkyards tell me that is a big called for item, but it is dealer supplied only. Safety risk of it flying off and striking another vehicle.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

In 2013 we took r vehicle to get smoged it wouldn't pass the mechanic said there is a crack in the gas tank and they can use some stuff on it to patch it ,now a year goes by my son is using the car putting gas in the at the station and another lady tells him your leaking gas took it to the chevy in tracy CA they said there was nothing they could do there was a recall on this vehicle and they couldn't do anything about it and my husband told them we never received a recall notice about this and he said there was nothing they could do and it would cost us 1600. 00 now my GMC is setting in my driveway and we r too afraid to drive it that it will catch on fire and its undrivable the neck going to the gas tank is cracked , my son drove this vehicle with his baby for quite awhile and this has scared me to death I think GMC needs to make this right and fix this problem on my car we would of taken it in right away if we had know about it and that there was a recall.

5 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

We parked our GMC Envoy in the driveway the evening of 6/8/13 around 7:30 pm. I hadn't used the rear hatch at all on this day. My husband was outside and left and came back in his vehicle after midnight. So sometime in the early hours of 6/9/13 the rear window exploded. At first we though something or someone broke it, however there were no foreign objects found that could have caused it the break. It wasn't a nick or crack, the glass was completely shattered. Most of the glass was on the outside of the vehicle and all over the side walk with only a small amount on the inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was locked from the inside. After doing an internet search I found many other instances of the exact same thing happening to other GMC Envoys. In some cases people were near enough and some being inside the vehicle and incurred injuries with no known or apparent cause for the glass to be shattered. Thank goodness we were inside sleeping and there were no injuries. The problem comes in that I cannot afford to have it fixed even with my insurance as my deductible hasn't been met, so we have plastic over it. With all the reports of this happening to other people GMC claims to have never heard of such a thing. I'm going to take it in to a dealership this morning, but wonder if anything can be done to compensate replacing the glass.

6 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

I have had this issue 3 times -8/2012, 2/2013, 3/2014 - so I am on the 4th ignition switch in this car, mileage now approx 108,000. The 4x4, stabilitrak, abs and emerg brake lights come on then it beeps repeatedly. Sometimes concurrently, sometimes not the air blower stops working as well. This 3rd time, after the lights had been coming off/on for a few days, turning the blower on would trigger the lights to come on. For each of the 3 times, the GMC dealer has recommended replacement of the ignition switch (2x at my cost) on the most recent repair a voltage spike was acknowledged but the option to track this by installing inline fuses was not even offered until I had taken my issue to a higher authority. I declined as I don't care to put more money in a car that even one of the dealerships employees recommended I just sell and buy new. My concern is whether this car is a hazard to me and others? the service manager said when this occurs the ignition is essentially off and the car could stop but another person told me that no, it's another leg of the ignition and its okay. I don't know who to believe.

7 Carrier/rack problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Check engine light diagnosed as dtc code p0442 (evap leak). Smoke test revealed crack in fuel tank assembly where filler neck hose meets the fuel tank. GMC issued a bulletin no. : 05-06-04-014a on March 21, 2005 regarding the above referenced dtc code and its possible connection to a fracture in the fuel tank, but has not issued a recall or other remedy for this defect. Vehicle is unsafe due to fuel tank fracture. In addition, vehicle cannot be registered because it cannot pass smog test with check engine light on. Cost for repair is $1,300-$1,500.

8 Carrier/rack problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/22/2005

The consumers roof rack on the vehicle blew off while driving. The roof rack was hanging on the vehicle, the other hit the road and bounced on the turnpike. The driver saw the other vehicle swerving to miss the roof rack, but no accident occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired, but wanted to file a complaint first.
