1 Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/15/2008

We complained about the transmission slipping at 33,000 miles and take it back to the dealer they say the checked the problem and replaced an electrical component, at 50k while my wife was driving on the highway at 65mph lost the power train. After much discussion and three weeks the dealer finally agreed to fix for 500 vice 3300 which they wanted. A week later the transmission is slipping again and now we lost power steering and the gas needle stopped working. I have left messages for the service manager at wiesner GMC in conroe TX and they have not returned any calls. I am now taking the vehicle to a different mechanic to tried to get it repaired.

3 Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/19/2005

The consumer complained about a power steering problems. There was a constant squeak in the steering even while the vehicle was parked. She said there was a popping noise while turning right or left. The consumer also heard the popping noise while going over speed bumps. The squeaking noise began as soon as the vehicle started. The service dealer replaced the power steering belt, power steering gear, a link and bushing, and the drive belt. Also, the dealer adjusted the power steering pulley. This did not remedy the problem, so they replaced the entire power steering pump. However, the problem recurred. The dealer thought it may have been something in the front suspension, so they replaced two stabilizer links. This still did not remedy the problem. Updated 11/29/05.

We paid 30. 000 this GMC Envoy because we wanted a car that would run and that we would not have to spend a lot of money on to be repaired. The dealer said we should only have to pay for upkeep and minor repairs. That is a joke if you buy a GMC (part number 26089516).

7 Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Was driving approx. 60 mph when a semi decided to move into my lane. I assumed I was in his blind spot so I sped up to be in front of him. When his front started moving into my lane I moved over a tiny bit onto the burm. I then turned the steering wheel a little to the right to get back into the center of the road in front of the truck. Just then the steering wheel started responding to the wheels as they began small back and forth (left and right) jerks. The jerks (wheels) became larger, swirving the Envoy back and forth (left and right) within the lane. This movement increased to where the car began to spin out of control accross all lanes of the freeway, luckely stopping all busy freeway traffic around me. The wheels seemed to be sliding around as if on a sheet of ice. I did my best to control the wheel to avoid going into the ditch because the Envoy was swirving so much it most likely would have tipped over. The Envoy did at least 5 complete donuts while the semi was heading towards me. The Envoy shut down while in drive. I opened my door and waved to the semi driver. He waved back to tell me good luck and to move out of the busy freeway if I could. I put the Envoy in "park" then it started back up and drove away without a scratch on it. I brought the Envoy back into the dealership "preston" immediately and they said this is the 2nd or 3rd incident of the same nature. There was a Envoy in their parking lot that had been only going 35mph and hit a telephone pole. I cannot emphasize the fact that this could have easily been a fatality. I thought my life was over. Please do not wait to research this problem. I have absolutely no doubt there is a manufacturing problem. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. I'm sure your expediting this matter will save lives!.

8 Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

When the car had 4500 miles, the engine stopped running when I was driving at 40 mph -- there were no warning signs or other problems beforehand. The car would not restart immediately - nothing happened when I turned the key -- then, after 45 minutes it started but the engine was very noisy and power to accelerate was very poor. The dealer fixed the noisy engine by recalibrating the pcm but they said no fault codes were registered in the car's computer so they can't figure out why the car stalled. I advised them about NHTSA recall campaign # 02v121000 fuel:fuel filter line where the symptoms were very similar to mine. They said there was no gm recall and there was no problem with my fuel filter fitting. The stall occured on 5/14/02 and I have driven 600 miles since then without incident. I called the GMC # listed in the recall notice on 5/24/02 and they said no recalls applied to my car (which was mfg'd in 9/01) and they had no knowledge of the NHTSA recall campaign # 02v121000. I'm concerned that whatever caused my car to stall while driving will reoccur and it is dangerous trying to pull over across traffic lanes to the shoulder without engine power or power steering.
