Two problems related to axle assembly have been reported for the 1996 GMC Jimmy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The rear axel went in this Jimmy it is only 4 years old. I was lucky that this didn't completely freeze up while I was traveling down the road it could have created a serious accident.
Left rear axle sheared while driving down hwy at 65 mph, causing vehicle to roll 5 & 1/2 times and causing injury to passengers, dps stated defective axle on report.
