Eight problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 2000 GMC Jimmy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy 4wd. It has a hd towing package. At 84,300 miles my 4le60 transmission went out. The sun gear went bad. The sun gear is the main gear in the transmission. I have never raced the truck, or towed a trailer, or went 4-wheeling with it. I paid 1,400 dollars to have it rebuilt. By looking online it seems that this is a common failure to this transmission. What recourse do I have?.
I put my 2000 Jimmy in reverse and heard a pop sound then it would not move at all so I put it in drive a it did move then but it wined so I had to call a wrecker to come get it. I bought it from a Ford dealer they said it was the valve body it would cost 650. 00 to fix but I also but the extended warrenty but it was already out the said 4 out of 5 Jimmy have the same problem.
I am writing to advise the nhtsb of a potentially dangerous defect in the gm 4l60-e transmission and to request the nhtsb open an investigation to identify and resolve said defects. My request is in reference to the reaction sun shell, a part within the 4l60-e transmission prone to catastrophic failure. I own two GMC Jimmy 4x4 suvs. My first Jimmy is a 2000 with 60000 miles and the second is a 2001 with 50000 miles. Within the last 2 â½ months, the reaction sun shell in both of the vehicles has failed, resulting in severe damage to the 4l60-e transmissions. The failures occurred during the operation of the vehicles at highway speeds. In both cases, there was no warning of a pending failure. Both suvs experienced a sudden loss of 2nd, 3rd, od, and reverse gears, resulting in significant degradation in the performance of the vehicles and drastically reduced the operators ability to control the vehicles. Failure of a single transmission in any vehicle can be attributed to a variety of circumstances. However, identical failures in multiple 4l60-e transmissions strongly indicate a systematic fault in design and/or quality. Both vehicles experience only light duty operation and are very well maintained. GMC has been made aware of the failures verbally and in writing. Thus far, GMC has refused to accept responsibility for the fault in design and/or quality and has stated it is unwilling to correct the problem. However, GMC is aware of the problem and its magnitude as evidenced by GMC TSB 00-07-30-022. Any time there is a sudden and drastic change in the operating characteristics of a motor vehicle, the operator is presented with a dangerous situation threatening the safety of the operator, passengers, and fellow drivers. With this in mind, it is my hope that the nhtsb will investigate the grievance I have presented, identify the fault as a systematic failure on the part of GMC, and issue the appropriate recall necessary to ensure the safety of everyone on our highways.
First the transmission went out and I had to have it rebuilt. . . Then, I had to replace a ball joint. . . Now the other one has to be replaced. The mechanic says it is too dangerous to drive. These repairs are not cheap and premature! prior to having the transmission rebuilt I had it put on the machine and it sent out several different codes that had to be corrected. . . Nevertheless, we still had to replace the transmission. . . Also, the four wheel drive gets stuck periodically.
While driving 50mph lost acceleration and all gauges.
This car has continually had transmission problems. I have also stopped in the dealer on 2 separate times about the transmission. The mechanic hooked up a computer to see the problem. I was never given a work order sheet for those 2 times. It has also been recalled for seat belts & ignition switch. Mr.
Intermittently, vehicle does not accelerate after stopping, this happens only on warmer days when the ac is on, dealer is not able to locate problem. Cj.
The dome override button when pushed four times within 6 seconds disables the automatic exterior lights, including the headlights!. The option was was not listed in the users manual. We were driving at night when I found it by accident while trying to turn on the dome light. General motors admits that this was overlooked and not included in the 2000 manual. It almost got us in an accident or possibly worse. If I found it by accident, sooner or later someone else will too. The next time, it might get someone killed. People who own these 2000 models need to made aware of this option. I suspect that this omitted option is not just limited to the 2000 Jimmy and fear that it may involve many, if not all of the 2000 GMC vehicles which have this dome override button. Dt.
