My Jimmy caught on fire. The fire department stated that it was a defect in the fuse box system. It was a total loss. I am saddened to think that this happened. Just because the vehicle was 10 years old, doesn't mean that it should catch on fire. I had been christmas shopping and lost it all.

My vehicle has two problems that I am aware of. There's heat coming from the floor heater while the heater is off, and it burns my feet. The other problem is that when I activate my left/right blinker my day lights go out, and sometimes when I'm driving my day lights are not activated. I have to play with my blinkers to make then come on. My car is still under warranty, but the dealership where I purchased this vehicle refuses to fix either problem. They told me that my car is designed this way.

I purchased a 1999 GMC Jimmy for my daughter. All through the warranty period, there have been problems that still have not been fixed. The brakes have never worked properly, parts inside the vehicle have fallen off, the antenna has fallen off,the electrical system (heating and cooling) has not worked properly, the outside mirrors and windows have not worked properly, the electrical system has buzzed when the radio is on, there has always been a banging noise underneath the vehicle. The left front hub assembly was replaced-didn't correct the probelm-had it replaced again 2 weeks ago-same condition still exists. They finally found the lower and upper ball joints on the passenger side were coming apart-replaced them-but noise (loud sometimes) is still there. Have been taking this vehicle in for repairs since I bought it-have been without the vehicle over 30 days in the warranty perioid. Now-after breaking down twice again in the last 2 months (a condition I've been trying to have them fix since 11/01) due to no power when I press on the gas-it's going in again. It is 2 hours one-way to the dealer (silviera, healdsburg, CA) for me. I believe they have been trying-but I think this vehicle is really now, and has always been a lemon. The vehicle has only 50,000 miles on it, and it is not dependable (never has been). After all these times in for service-taking a day off work every time to get it to them, I've had it. My daughter (college student) who I bought the vehicle for (I wanted her to have something reliable for college), now uses my car-so she won't get stuck all the time. I am ready to put the lemon law into effect with this vehicle.

Insturment panel not working, engine light on, transmission not shifting, keys stuck in ignition. Parts failing throughout this SUV.
Speedometer sticks when driving with lights on for 15 minutes or more. Dash gets very hot unless dash lights are turned to lowest setting. When dash lights are turned to the lowest setting, the speedometer begins to work normally.
Failure was intermittent. Gauges would fail, and all dash gauge lamps would light up. Stopped at dealer and asked if they knew of the problem. I was told its a known problem but if it wasn't fixed at any time it could go,and I would be stuck. Would not be able to shift the transmission, it would fail to start and all the gauges would fail. The problem is with a bad ground in the electrical asm behind the keylock and it would cost around $500 to fix. I think this should be a call back. I was told the part was hard to come by because they had to purge inventory of the old part. If the new upgraded part is so hard to get I would suspect that the problem is larger than is being let on. At this point I have a rental, waiting for the car to be fixed. This is similar to the Ford recall with the ignition switches that caused fires only they say this problem won't cause a fire. But what happens if it goes while driving at highway speeds,or any speed at that matter?.
The wiring haress under the dash to the power seat had burned together therefor shorting out the battery and the alternator which caused intermittent stalling. Nlm.
Consumer was unable to remove keys from the ignition. Also, the battery and trip meter light illuminated on the digital instrument cluster. Was able to drive vehicle to dealership. The mechanic had to replace the ignition switch three times.
