Ignition Problems of GMC Jimmy

Stopped at local restaurant, ignition would not turn off and we were unable to remove the key. At this time, the vehicle is not driveable at all. We are unable to start or shut off the vehicle. The vehicle is not recognizing that the key is in the ignition. All dash lights are on, brakes do not work. This is a safey concern.

I purchased a 2001 GMC Jimmy. Problem is ignition lock. Key stays in lock, have to fiddle with ignition move car, turn wheel to find just the right place. Thought just my car,but have seen others with same problem, local dealer said can fix for about 100 dollars they never looked at vehicle. Was told by gm on phone to push button on column to get key out, I don't have one was told book shows one any suggestion the vehicle fits my needs was really super low miles.

Intermittently it would be hard to start the vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

When I try to start the vehicle in cold weather, it has a very hard time starting and when it finally fires up, the stereo resets the time, and automatic tone feature, but the presets are still in tact. Please supply more information regarding the cause and solution.

My 1998 GMC Jimmy has a defect where the key get stuck in the ignition and will not come out. I had this problem looked at 18 months ago and the ignition cylinder was replaced. I understand from the dealer that this is a common problem with the floor shifter, if this is a common problem why isn't there a recall. This is dangerous keys left in the ignition can lead to someone taking the car without permission especially a child.

Continous pre-existing vehicle problems and 3-4 or more attempts to correct problem of off and on occurrence of vehicle not cranking up/starting when turning ignition key. I fear vehicle will cut off while driving which can result in a harmful or fatal auto accident.

While driving vehicle losses all gauges and can't get the key out of the ignition. Please provide additional information.

The abs system has malfunctioned many times. At first I did not pay attention to it, because I thought it was just light brake pressure. Then it started to loose pressure and keep going forward when stopping. I took it to the dealer and paid for a new master cylinder. Then it started malfunctioning again. I contacted the bbb and was told it wasn't covered under warranty and I had too much milage. Went back to dealer and they reprogrammed the computer unit, no charge. The ignition started locking and they repaired that for a fee. It too has gone back to locking when trying to start. Safety is a concern, still.

Spark plug failed.

The engine abruptly quits (as if turned off). This has happened while climbing long grades. Altitude has been 7000-10000 feet. Outside temperature has ranged from 65-85 degrees. Each time after pulling off the road and coming to a stop the engine starts after a brief time and continues normally. Dealer has driven the car for extended periods and has been unable to replicate the problem. Three times the engine has quit while in heavy high speed traffic which causes some concern about safety. The problem appears to be computer caused as it is so abrupt - no stutter, stumble or cough.

Last week truck lost all power and I could not get my key out of the ignition,once all power was back key came loose. I have had a problem with muffler since 1st month sounds like a hole in the exhaust and makes a loud ping sound ,dealer just told me I needed to replace muffler. When in reverse and backing out of driveway a loud clunk sound from front passenger side. Have lost power 2 times while driving down the street. Have also noticed that when I turn anything on in the car I am losing a significant amount of power . This includes blinkers,radio,a/c ,if they are all on my volts drop to almost 11.
