1 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem of the 2000 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 09/20/2006

While driving heard a loud humming noise from front of vehicle. Dealer found front hub bearing needed replacement. Drivers side was replaced under warranty on 2/20/03 (note: I am the original owner and vehicle had 27,000 miles when problem first occurred). Same problem occurred on 3/15/04 that time on passenger side. Dealer replaced passenger side hub bearing on 3/15/04 and cost was split 50/50 with gm and myself (note: 46,000 miles on vehicle). Same problem recurred on 9/15/06 on passenger side hub bearing. Dealer states that hub bearing is bad and needs to be replaced again which is a $500 repair job. Furthermore this problem never occurred before with any other vehicle I have owned or any other non-jimmy owners that I know of. From reviewing your complaints and talking to other Jimmy owners, this is a widespread recurring problem and a known defect that should be fixed by gm.

2 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem of the 2001 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 02/25/2006

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy with 37,000 mainly driven in the winter. I am the original owner of the car. Within the past month I heard a very loud sound in the front. When taken to the dealership was told that the right front wheel bearing was so bad that a few more miles and the tire would have come off. They said the left wasn't any better, but could go another month. I only had enough money that day to fix the right. When I called the customer relations of gm, they told me they would investigate and get back to me. I was later told that they would only repair the left, but that I had to pay for the one only fixed (even though it was the worst), because the car was so old! it is no longer under warranty. They told me the dealership was going to pay for the left repair, but when I called the dealership, they said it was the manufacturer. After investigation, I see that canada ordered a recall for this vehicles wheel bearings failing at 70,000km for Jimmys 1998-2001, but no similar recall in the us. Both the dealership and gm told me I was lucky they were paying half. I do not believe wheel bearings should fail at 37,000 miles. I see similar owners complaining of multiple replacements for the same problem.

There are several recalls out on my model of vehicle in which my vehicle has the same symptoms but when I run a check on the year VIN it comes back with no recalls. How can I make sure that my repairs should be covered under the recalls.

4 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 03/14/2005

Vehicle started making loud noises when turning wheel to left, but because the vehicle wanted to pull to the right, the wheel was almost always turned to the left. Thought it was a problem with the alignment, but after I hit a deer, my vehicle was taken in for body repairs and they informed me that the problem was with my hubs and wheel bearings on both sides of the vehicle and that I was very lucky to have hit the deer because my tires would have likely fallen off very soon. I have read many stories on this site almost exactly like mine. Gm needs to do something about this as my car has always been well maintained and there is no reason this should have happened so soon.

Now at 61,000 miles, the intake manifold gasket is leaking, and the oil lines are also leaking. The dealership estimated repair costs at well over $1100 dollars. This is a 2000 GMC Jimmy, and only has 61,000 miles.

Failure Date: 12/05/2004

I own a 2000 Jimmy and have gone through 2 sets of upper and lower ball joints and at this time the left lower ball joints went again. What is the problem with the ball joints? this is costly to repair, as wel as dangerous, affecting the steering. I would like to know what improvments are being done to correct the problem, and if it is a common occurance among other GMC SUV's. There should not be disposible parts put on the front end of any vehicle.

Passenger side wheel bearing failed, drivers side has failed twice now. Can't seem to get the front end to align either. Been to 3 shops and it still eats my tires. 12 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 08/13/2003

My vehicle is a 1999 GMC Jimmy. It has 65000 miles and I am the original owner and primary driver. The front hubs/bearings have both been replaced in the last 9 months, one at 50,600 miles, and nowone at 65,000 miles. The problem was not fixed by replacing the hub/bearings units. I was told yesterday that both of the front lower ball joints and an idler arm need to be replaced in addition to the hub/bearing. The shop working on the vehicle indicated that this was not normal at 65,000 miles, and that the condition of the ball joints made the vehicle unsafe to drive. I called gm and got absolutely no support from the district service representative since all of my repairs were not done at a gm dealership. The reason I stopped going to gm dealerships was poor service, inflated prices and recommendations for work to be done that wasn't necessary.

Failure Date: 04/23/2002

I bought this 1999 GMC Jimmy used with 33000 miles. I noticed after buying that when you turned loose of the wheel that the vehicle would swerve to the right. Thinking I had an alignment problem I took it to my tire dealer and that's when he told me that the wheel bearing assembly needed to be replaced. Also he told me that this vehicle was not the only gm vehicle he had seen with that problem. After replacing the humming ,pulling to the right wheel bearing assembly, the problem was corrected. I have noticed on several sites that this is a common problem that gm will not admit to or fix. Bottom line is I should not have to replace that part at 37000 miles.
