I have replaced many major parts that are not considered routine maintenance, such a driver's door hinges and bearings, hood release cable, steering arm (twice) hubs (twice) the wiring system is faulty. I have gone through 4 alternators in under 2 1/2 years.

I own a 2001 GMC Jimmy 2 door, 2wd with 34,000 miles. I had to have replaced the idler arm and tie rod and 4 brand new tires because the idler arm was shot. There are only 34,000 miles on this vehicle, less than the 36,000 mile warranty. Gm would not repair it because of the vehicle was more than 3 years old. The auto technician at the tire store was amazed that this vehicle had such a bad problem with tire wear and the idler arm mechanism this early. This cost me $550 to fix.

Clunking noise in front end - verified excessive play in idler arm & pitman arm.
My vehicle is a 1999 GMC Jimmy. It has 65000 miles and I am the original owner and primary driver. The front hubs/bearings have both been replaced in the last 9 months, one at 50,600 miles, and nowone at 65,000 miles. The problem was not fixed by replacing the hub/bearings units. I was told yesterday that both of the front lower ball joints and an idler arm need to be replaced in addition to the hub/bearing. The shop working on the vehicle indicated that this was not normal at 65,000 miles, and that the condition of the ball joints made the vehicle unsafe to drive. I called gm and got absolutely no support from the district service representative since all of my repairs were not done at a gm dealership. The reason I stopped going to gm dealerships was poor service, inflated prices and recommendations for work to be done that wasn't necessary.

Vehicle had no defective ball joints until after vehicle was taken to dealership. Consumer was informed that the upper/lower ball joints needed to be replaced as well as the idler arm to pass inspection, consumer could not understand why a vehicle with only 39,532 would need such parts, consumer was later informed that GMC would replace the parts at no charge due to their goodwill program, however consumer still had to pay for the labor charge, consumer was then informed by a friend that there was a recall for upper ball joints, but when consumer contacted GMC she was told that her vehicle was not included in the recall.
During normal operation of vehicle at any speed it is difficult to maintain control of vehicle because of a "floating" sensation. Vehicle was purchased in 02/01 with 32,195 miles. Within 7000 miles right side upper/lower ball joints and idler arm failed and were replaced. Approximately 2 months later, dealer had to replace the left upper/lower ball joints/ right lower ball joints, and the idler arm again due to being prematurely worn. Within an additional 11000 miles, dealer had to replace the lower ball joints on both the right and left sides and the idler arm again.
