1 Windshield Wiper/washer problem of the 1998 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 08/09/2006

I own a 1998 GMC Safari van; I have had problems with the wipers working when ever they wanted to" since purchasing the van. Yesterday during a heavy thunderstorm, the wipers quit completely with zero warning. The only reason that there was not an accident was because luckily there was nothing for me to hit when I lost control due to not being able to see. I have spoken to gm customer service on numerous occasions to only be told that although the circuit board that causes this problem has been recalled for other years, it is not recalled on 1998 year models. Please address this issue for safety sake before some is killed.

11 Windshield Wiper/washer problem of the 1997 GMC Safari

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

Since last November, have noted unfortunatley when it start to rain that the windsheild wipers don't always activate when they are turned on. This creates a safety hazard when the car is in motion and there is no way to clear the windshield. The problem can be rectified by getting out of the van, opening the hood and pressing the wire conections together. However, that does not guarantee that the wipers will continue to operate. All of the electrical contacts have power amd the plug connection is tight and does not appear to loosen. Thought it might be just my problem, but a neighbor who owns a 94 suburban states he has the same problem. I just contacted the dealer to determine if there was a recall on this and they said no. Have asked that the zone rep give me a call.

23 Windshield Wiper/washer problem of the 1996 GMC Safari

The windshield wipers failed intermittently, never know when they will work, or won't work. 1996 GMC jimmy's had same problem, which was recalled and fixed by GMC dealers, why haven't the Safaris? I have seen several complaints that have been reported, this is a safety hazard!!!!!! some times they work and sometimes they don't. I have had to drive in the rain w/o wipers, and it's dangerous!!!!! also the hydraulics that hold the top half of teh rear hatch door open, have failed three times. We had the dealer replace them twice, but at over $100. 00 each time, it's getting expensive. Feel that this is a safety factor as well, due to not knowing when the lifts will fail, the top half of the door, which is heavy, could fall on someone's head, and has happened. Trust me, it hurts!.
