Automatic Transmission problems of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Three problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 2002 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2005

GMC 2002 1/2 ton pickup,transmission reverse went out at 44,000 miles (first time it went out at 28,000 miles). Repaired for second time parts. Reaction shell gear stripped. Parts shell, gear, fltr kit, seal, seal oil, gasket. R&r trans replace reaction shell and gear.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2002

Transmission shifts with a strong jerk from 1st to 2nd gear, problem began 7/30/02, dealer replaced valve body, return again 8/8/02 with same problem, replaced same part, occurred again leaving dealer same day as pickup returned back to dealer again on 8/13/02 I was told it was the channel plate at that time by service and called by gm mfg and was told it was valve body again.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2002

There are problems with the shifting mechanism on the transmission. Dealer was contacted. Ph.
