general problems of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Five problems related to steering have been reported for the 2005 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I took my truck into fitzgerald auto mall, with whom I've had a great relationship, for some power steering issues. I was told that the brake system piping itself was rusting and would need to be replaced to the tune of $1600. 00. I researched this and found that this is a common issue with gm trucks and there hasn't been anything done about it. Gm has reduced the cost of the repair "kit" to $500, but who is going to install it? I have had many vehicles and lived in many states where salt is used on the road. I've never seen a vehicle that had so much damage because of it, especially a critical system like brakes. This should have been a recall years ago. I don't think the owners of these affected vehicles should have to pay to fix an engineering mistake. Gm should be liable and fix it for free. Thank you.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2012

Power steering stops working on slow right hand turns. I sometimes need to back up in order to complete the turn. I also end up crossing into oncoming lanes if no traffic is comeing towards me. If there is traffic I need to stop in the middle of the turn until the traffic clears. The "check airbag" light came on at 85000 miles after the battery discharged from the vehicle sitting to long without being driven.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2007

Intermediate steering shaft has been rattling for a few weeks now, and my truck only has 38,000 miles. I'm told that lubricating it will only stop it short term.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2006

Returned to dealer 4 times for: brakes going out (4 new sets installed) abnormal wear on tires (f) valves chattering at 10-65 mph returned to dealer 3 times for: steering sector knocking front axle making warping noise transmission clunking when shifting up or down returned to dealer 2 times for: various electrical/light problems smoking in passing gear or hard take off all of the above problems are still on-going and have not been repaired.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that the steering shaft does not have enough grease and causes the steering to stiffen up while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least five times for the steering shaft to be re-greased, but that has not remedied the issue. The contact feels this is a safety issue because the steering stiffens and makes it very difficult to drive, which could lead to a crash. The current mileage was 49,000 and failure mileage was 15,000.
