The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra. While backing out of a parking spot, the vehicle suddenly stopped. The passenger side wheel was unable to move; however, the driver's side wheel operated when the steering wheel was turned. The contact called a mechanic and was informed that the rack and pinion failed or the thread became loose. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic for repair. The contact feels that this is a safety issue and the failure could have caused a crash had it occurred on the highway. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was 48,000 and failure mileage was 47,900.
