3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

4 months ago the display portrayed a message stating, trailer brake warning, have system checked. Since that time I have attempted on numerous to have my vehicle checked. But as of this date I have not been to have any dealership look at my vehicle. I have been told by dealership that the vehicle computer shows a history but no current error codes, and they can not work on vehicle until it has current codes. So I have a truck that is designed to tow cargo/vehicle but I am not able to use my truck for that purpose because of this warning message. I have contacted dealerships, customer service with GMC and even filed a complaint with tennessee dept of consumer affairs, but no one wants to help with my problem. I have noticed on the internet that I am not the only one with this issue. Dangerous situation should someone use vehicle towing. Biggest problem gm does not want to even acknowledge that they have a problem.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

I was backing up at very low speed the brake pedal got very hard and the vehicle acted like it did not want to stop I had to keep pushing extremely hard on to the break to get the vehicle to stop I tried it again in drive and the vehicle did this exact same thing this time I noticed after paying particular attention that the brakes while they were hard to press were pulsating so I had to use extreme leg pressure to stop the vehicle. My truck has already had the recall for the same issue earlier this year. When this 1st happened it almost caused me to wreck into a fence.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

At low idle the braking become very stiff and extreme pressure on the brake peddle is need to stop the vehicle. Hank graff of durand mi indicated it is due to a failed brake assist vacuum pump. The service rep. Also experienced the issue when they pulled the vehicle into the repair bay. As the owner, I have experienced this braking issue multiple times.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

Hard brake pedal with increased effort needed to depress the brake pedal. Feels like truck will not stop. Had to have truck towed. Reported back on 11-24-18 to NHTSA: ( #1115347). Brake vacuum pump was replaced @ gm dealer on 11-14-18, same situation happened again on 02-19-19. Gm TSB # pit5361d needs to be a recall.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2019

I was on a major highway traveling when the traffice became stop and go. As I was traveling in heavy traffic for about 5 minutes, my brake became stiff and would not allow me to stop as normal. I was able to stop just short of rear-ending the vehicle in front of me, however it was merely by inches. Considerations : I was on a slight decline and my vehicle has start assist where the brake pedal remains stiff when in effect, it felt like this activated. I continued to increase pressure through which I thought I heard the abs activate and the vehicle stopped.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

Poor brake performance. The brake pedal gets stiff at a low speed and causes the truck to not brake completely.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2018

Failure of the belt driven vacuum pump while driving causing very hard braking and almost caused an accident. Vacuum pressure dropped off and caused the pedal to become firm. Luckily after it was inspected for repair there wasn't oil contamination in the vacuum line or brake booster so those did not have to be replaced.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Brake vacuum pump booster. First started when driving under 5 mph. The brakes were hard to push down and would not stop the truck properly. Did this for approximately 3 months. Then driving getting off the interstate and applied brakes going 60 mph the brakes would not work. Could barley stop. Same issue has when driving slow. Now the brakes will not work at any speed. They truck is undrivable until it gets fixed.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Power brake vacuum pump issue. Lost brakes while driving in stop and go city traffic. Had to have truck towed, was unsafe to drive due to no brakes.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

Hard brake pedal. At low speed the brake pedal gets really hard and makes it hard to stop the truck. Pedal has to get pushed really hard to barely stop from hitting other vehicles. Ongoing issue.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

I have been having a problem with the trailer brake controller on my k3500 truck. Recently the message "check trailer wiring" has been coming on frequently. At the same time, the braking controller shuts off power to the trailer brakes. This has resulted in a very unsafe condition, especially with a trailer that weighs over 14,000 pounds. This has been going on for 6 months now. Repeated attempts by both the GMC dealer and the trailer dealer have failed to resolve the problem. I have been told, by the dealer, that the problem started approximately with the 2014 models. The brake controller has been upgraded, and made much more sensitive to slight deviations in the trailer system, causing the controller to "shut off" so to speak. While this wouldn't be a big issue normally, when it shuts off, you lose all braking ability to the trailer resulting in an unsafe condition. There is no way to override this and activate the brakes. What seems to be happening is a very slight deviation in the resistance in the trailer brake system (by 1 ohm or less) and that causes the "shutdown" in the controller. Trailer brakes would work, if they could get power. But, the controller has shut down, so no power. Myself (and the trailer shop) have been checking the internet and finding that this is not an isolated incident. It appears to be happening with all the big three manufacturer trucks, since about 2014. People have been coming up with some rather "creative" ways around this, in some cases eliminating the original system entirely. This is just not acceptable. Again, this "new system the big three are putting in is far worse that the old, simply because it has no room for forgiveness in a trailer system that might work otherwise, but has a slight deviation in what is considered "acceptable" to the controller. At the very least, there should be a fail safe method.
