The truck was parked in my driveway when I got in and started the ignition. As soon as I did, the plastic dashboard cracked at the passenger side air bag. One week later, same situation, as I started the ignition, the dash cracked above the driver's side instrument panel. The cracks have continued to grow since initially appearing. I have a safety concern that the passenger air bag will not deploy as intended since the integrity of the dashboard has failed, and further concern that if the air bags do deploy, that the dash has become so brittle that there will be sharp chards of plastic in the passenger compartment as the dash is shattered into pieces from the impact of a crash.

We were driving on the interstate in houston at approximately 60-65 mph approaching a hill. When reaching the top of the hill, there was a parked car in the middle of the highway and we slammed into the back end of it. Both vehicles were totaled. Fortunately, we were wearing seat belts and were not terribly injured. Just real jarred up. The air bags never deployed. With a hit that hard they should have.

A driver turned left into me as I was going through a green lighted intersection. He thought he could make it. I was the only person in my vehicle, so I understand that the passenger air bag would not deploy. What I don't understand is that the drivers air bag did not deploy. The impact totaled my truck. The contact was on the front passenger side, so maybe that is why. Just thought I would report this in case there is a problem with gm air bags.
I was stopped at a red light behind 2 other vehicles. A vehicle from behind struck me at appx 40 mph and rammed me into vehicle in front of me. The cab of my truck filled with a white. "smoke". I was told by both firemen and wrecker driver airbags had activated but not deployed. My wife was with me. Both our seatbelts locked up as they should. Concern is had the airbag deployed it might have helped with back and shoulder injury. Maybe we would not have bounced around as much. I notified GMC and they made a case file but after a week still have not contacted me. Even after numerous voice messages left.

While driving in the mountains, I swerved to miss an animal, took the ditch, hit two trees, some boulders and the airbags did not deploy. I was traveling at about 47 mph. The accident report showed damages to every part of the truck except the roof and tailgate. We had a grill guard installed at a GMC dealership upon purchase, and had it not been for that guard, the engine would have been in our laps. The truck sustained 20,000 dollars in damages, yet all gm had to say was that the airbags operated as designed. I say that the design is fatally flawed if a crash of this magnitude does not cause this very important safety feature to operate. The folks who towed the vehicle had some very strong opinions about this failure, and said that the grill guard was the only thing which saved us, and that having it installed should not have had any effect on the function of the airbags.
On October 15, 2013, approx 7:45 am, single occupant, was entering the exit ramp from freeway when truck crashed and rolled twice. The air bags did not deploy. Truck was completely totaled. Occupant required medical transport to hospital and was kept for a week for testing and treatment for injuries. County sheriff attended to crash site and submitted traffic report. With all the recent recalls of gm products - like in other crashes, the air bags did not deploy. Ignition.

Dashboard is getting a large crack in it either due to stress or sun heating and cooling(expansion/contraction). This is a pleasure vehicle, no work, nothing ever put on the dashboard. Concern that airbag may not deploy properly.
The dashboard is cracking due to a design flaw around the passenger airbag which can cause the airbag to tear and or fail to deploy properly in a accident. In researching this subject on the internet I came to find out that this is a common issue in all GMC and Chevrolet light duty trucks from 2007-2012.
