Electronic brake control module failed and continued to run causing my battery to run down. After much research, it is apparent that this is a common occurance for 1999 -2003 GMC Sierra's and Chevrolet silverados. Gm dealerships want nearly $800 to make this repair for a part that was defective in design and in quality. The ntsb and/or NHTSA should mandate that gm recall and correct the deficiencies in their product instead of simply issuing a service bulletin just one month prior to my warranty running out.
Abs module failed, causing pump to run continuously. Necessitated removing fuse on abs system which causes brake light & abs light to burn all the time. Dealer said my problem, not gm's. Truck has been dealer serviced at all required times. I would think a brake system failure, even if a redundent system, would pose a safety issue & repaired by gm. The abs system was standard equipment, not optional to the buyer.
I started my truck up and heard a vibrating noise and the abs light came on. When I shut off my truck the noise continued. I unhooked the battery cable until I determined the problem was the electo-hydraulic control unit. I pulled the fuse and checked with my dealer. The service manager advised me that both parts of the unit (bpmv and ebcm) usually need to be replaced at a cost of approx. 1600. 00 for parts alone. This truck has only 42,000 miles on it. I also changed the brake fluid at 30,000 miles in order to avoid this problem. I consider the replacement cost for these parts to be outrageous. The fuse can be left out and the vehicle can be driven without the anti-lock feature working. I consider this a safety defect because very few people will pay this price to have the anti-locking feature restored. In addition, the abs and brake warning light come on and cannot be cleared when driven with the fuse pulled. This can cause a driver to miss other problems that would be indicated by the brake warning light.
Abs ebcm failed and continues to run with ignition off.
Continued problems with abs control module, up to and including brake failure. Gm is aware, but no recall has been made. This seems to be common with all 1999 1/2 and newer models. According to folsom lake GMC, the problem is common, but fix is offered other than $2000 in repairs at owners expense. This problem did not result in accident for me, but know of several that have occured due to brake failure.
Abs motor pump motor stuck on. Must pull fuse to turn it off. This causes the brake indicator light to come on in addition to the abs light. State inspectoin is becoming more and more difficult to pass every year with the abs not working and the fuse pulled. Feel that the replacement price is too expensive.
While driving the abs light come on and and stayed on. I heard a loud noise coming from underneath the driver side door. The noise continued after the vehicle was turned off and it wont stop. I pull out the abs fuse and the noise stoped. I took the truck to the dealer and he said what it was. The abs control module was shorted and the motor wont stop. It cost me $900. 00 dollars to repair this problem after I talked out the service person, I think this is way to expensive and to soon to failed, for what I have found out GMC needs to issue a recall on this system. Respectfully submited. Juan pinedo.
The ebcm (electronic brake control module) has failed on my 1999 GMC Sierra. It has less than 40000 miles on it, and from information obtained online, this appears to be quite a commonplace event on these vehicles. The abs light comes on, and the pump will run even with the ignition key removed.
The vehicles abs motor continued to run after the vehicle was turned off. Ph.
1999 GMC Sierra 4x2, auto, short bed. The abs motor came on an stayed on. I could not get the motor to shut down until I either pulled the abs fuse, or disconnected the motor under the truck. I have talked to the local dealrer and he has had several issues like this as well as many that are doucumented on the NHTSA website. Due to the numerous complaints and sefverity of this issue I think that GMC needs to issue a recall on this system. Respectfully submitted, gary easley.
Customer states abs light on owner, also pump motor continues to run, replaced abs module.
The abs motor continues to run after shutting the vehicle off. This causes the battery to run down making the vehicle inoperative. The abs system no longer is operative. The cost to repair is approximately $1000. Ts.
I complained to GMC directly about abs failure and reported it to atty. Gen of nys. I was told its normal wear in states with salt, funny that the paint is good to this day.
While driving brake pedal has to be depressed down to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. Dealer has replaced the anti lock brake control module and the master cylinder, but the problem still exists.
