GMC Sierra owners have reported 34 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Noticed mushy, vibrating brakes. Took it to tire store and was advised the brake booster and vacuum pump are bad. I've had several close calls in parking lots, as the vehicle is slow to resond to the application of the brakes. The drivers seat is also loose. It moves from side to side as I go around corners. I'm afraid it will come off the rails or worse yet, not secure me in the event of an accident.

Vehicle started showing "service lane departure system, service park assist, service trailer brake system" alarms while driving. Upon taking it to the dealer for service it was found to have broken wiring for haptic motor for drivers seat. Not only did this cause a possible safety issue with the lane departure system and trailer brake system not working correctly, but it also caused a possible fire concern due to broken wiring.

I have had my truck back the dealership 8 times for the same problem a vibration that you can feel in the seat steering wheel and gas pedal, they have had the factory engineers out three time and looked and worked on it, first time the engineer did a couple of things and said that it was up to factory specs and that was all he could do, I drove it home and before I was a block away I could tell that they did not fix it, when I got home I called the dealer back and told him so he called gm and the next week they sent out the same guy and this time he worked on 5 or 6 other things that he did not work on the first time after telling me they did all they could do the first time. Right there tells you they are lying if there was nothing they could do why come back and work on it again! but after he got done it was just like it was, I will try to list some of the stuff that they said they did, 1) rotated the tires 2) re-torque the wheels 3) balanced the tires 4) balanced the drive shaft 5) shimmed the rear end 6) checked the rear shocks 7) took off dealer installed mud flaps! 8) checked the exhaust system, I know but they did 9) road forced tested the tires twice and replaced two the second time and re-balanced the tires. And I'm sure I have not listed all they have tried, and still I have the same problem, third time the engineer came out he had the regional manager with him and this time they drove my truck and 2 others they had on the lot and said that they are similar to mine and they was not going to do any more to my truck that they had done all they could or would do but if I had any other problems to bring it back.

The head rests of our new truck (purchased Dec 2012) project so far forward that it forces my head to tilt downward. There is no forward/back adjustment to the head rest, and turning the head rest backwards to make it bearable means it no longer will serve well to prevent neck injuries in a crash. For shorter drives, the forced head tilt is uncomfortable, but for longer drives it causes enough pain that I had to see a chiropractor (and I'm an athletic, healthy person!). The dealer and manufacturer contend it works as designed for safety in a crash. But if I can't sit in it for normal driving without experiencing neck/back pain, how "safe" is that? I noticed the new 2014 GMC 1/2-ton pickups have a head rest with a noticeably less angular design, indicating GMC recognized the head rest design in my 2013 3/4-ton truck is, at best, a poor one and, at worst, a potentially dangerous one. Is there any recourse to getting GMC to replace my head rests with the new design (or even an older one, like the straight-up-and-down ones I have in my 2003 chevy tahoe)?.

2010 Sierra denali with 53k. 1st dash crack at passenger airbag with approx 20k. 2nd dash crack over steering column at approx 40k. We had to stuff a piece of cardboard in the dash because it rattled so badly. We also have: 1. Passenger door handle chrome peeling and sharp enough to cut 2. A/c control buttons worn off 3. Both front heat/cooled seats have stopped working 4. Running board steps cracked on both sides 5. Tail gate will not stay closed unless locked.

Consumer states when he parked his vehicle he raised the seat. When he got back in the truck the seat kept moving back and forth. The seat will not stop going back and forth. The dealership replaced the track and the parts to the seat. The repairs were made at the owners expense. The seat track was repalced. Updated 12/07/05.
1-seat adjustment 2-seat will not lock in position-slides freely front to back 3-temporarily locked failed piece into usable position-cannot adjust to any other position due to failed plastic block. Researched complaints for 99 GMC Sierra truck and found 10 existing identical failures. These are complaints-566049, 758819, 855016, 862903, 877718, 10020665, 10022698, 10066125, 10074822. I am sure there will be additional complaints under "mirror" vehicles such as Chevrolet and cadilac and other years. I have identified the piece as a plastic block approximately 1 inch wide by 2. 5 inches long with a lever, spring and pin assembly. The "u" portion of this block fails causing the seat to slide freely creating a severe safety issue. This is clearly an unsafe and poor design. I have pieces of broken block for reference and will continue to escalate this as far as necessary for resolution from gm.
The drivers seat adjuster fails to hold the seat from sliding back and forth. I have manual bucket seats and have been told by GMC that there is no records of failures. This has been repaired 5 times by replacing the seat adjuster, all under warranty thus far, but I am concerned that this is a safety issue since if it fails while driving, it allows the driver to be moved forward when brakes are applied.
There is a bar that is at the base of the front drivers seat which comes out at the console. The bar cut straight through the seat. The bar is very sharp, and the consumer was badly cut by the bar .
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that when inserting the key into the ignition the seat would take off pinning the contact into the dashedboard. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor drive software need to update. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000. Aw.

Son was driving 99 GMC Sierra truck on I-20 in arlington, TX Monday, may 26th when he braked to slow and the front driver seat suddenly lurched forward throwing him into the steering wheel causing him to lose control of the truck. He regained control of the vehicle but was almost rear ended by vehicle. Son and fiancee were unhurt and no damage was done. When they were able to pull over and investigate, the front driver seat would not lock in place. It would move forward and backward without locking into place. Son had to brace his foot against the dash to hold seat in place in able to drive the vehicle home. Serious injury could have been the result if control of the vehicle had been lost. Feel this is a manufacturers defect and serious injury could result if this happened to others or myself since I drive the same identical vehicle.
While backing the vehicle the seat cushion frame fractured at the left forward attach point. This caused the seat to rock and possibly could cause remaining three fasteners to become overloaded and fail. Failure of the primary structural seat attachment could cause serious injury during an accident.

Seat tracks anchor snapped off, causing driver's seat to fully recline back. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.
I was having trouble moving the drivers front seat forward or backwards, I left it in the foward position as I was driving along a city street ,I came up to a light and the seat anchorage became broken causing me to strick the steering wheel. I feel that if I had been going faster then 25mph I would have gotten hurt worse. I had a factory defect on the front seat belts, which I had taken to the dealer ,I was adviced that the parts were not in and had to be ordered. This was back in November or so to the best of my recllaction. 2-28-2001 I called the GMC customer assistance office spoke with a GMC representative and declare my problem , I wanted this deficiency to be covered under warranty, and I was adviced that it was not. Now what good is the seat belt doing me when the seat will not stay ,I have been using my left foot for support against the brake release that is mounted on the side of the drivers door,it keeps me from going foward at slow speeds what is going to happen if a vehicle in front of me suddenly stops? what good is this type of safety seat belt if the seat will not stay stationary,if this happen to my vehicle I dont doubt it will happen to some one else and mybe they wont be so lucky. Another safety feature that was installed be the manufacture is the antilock brakes, they are also not covered under an extended warranty like the emission system, I feel that the seat and antilock brakes should be more of a safety concern then the emission system. Any information will be kindly appreciated thanks for your time.
Driver's seat moves when applying brakes. Throws driver against steering wheel and unable to control vehicle properly. Dealer will look at the vehicle.
I contacted NHTSA several years ago and I was informed that gm had a large problem with the seat rails in their various vehicles. I understand that NHTSA has many-many vehicles to inspect. I have been fighting my gm dealer for the last 4 years with various problems-broken interior dor handle-failure(s) with the fuel injectors-fuel pump failures-burned wiring harnass(where I had to show them where the wiring harness was located-trained techs??-alternator failure-ac compressor failure-atc. . . The biggest problem of course is the seat rails. They could have been redisned and the metal should have been heat treated, the seat rails have a poor quality metal-heat treatment would have splved their problem{s}. I have taught auto repair for 30+ years and I have never dealt with such a bunch of non-caring ass holes. Made in America-purhaps I should purchase something from japan-at least they treat their customers correctly-driving a vehicle with loose seats makes me feel like im driving a found on the road dead car-Ford (pinto). . I hope that NHTSA will take action on gm and stick it to them. Thanks for listening.
There is a pop/squeak in front over bumps. Replaced front coil springs. Also, driver's seat sits too far/replaced right air deflector.
This has been a major problem since day one. I have contacted NHTSA several times by e-mail and fax to frank borris to keep him up to date with my problem. There are 100's of thousands of trucks with unsafe seats-my fear is having my seat-or-wifes seat- breaking loose during a crash, and causing permanent disabilities. I certainly hope that NHTSA can get this problem solved-ASAP---thanks for listening.
Front passenger seat rattles. Yh.
Driver seat fragile wiring within the spring mechanism that holds seat in place broke, causing the seat to move back and forth/slides. This could result in an accident.

Seats->drivers and passengers seats (leather) cracked in less than three years. Expected more for the price of this option. Have had brakes replaced 1 - 1 1/2 months prior to failure. I was out in the back country, 40 miles from paved roads, when I heard the rotors being torn up by what was left of the brake pads. It ruined both rotors. I was told at an independant shop that the calipers failed. I went to the dealer and the service advisor insisted that the calipers didn't fail . It was just cheap brake pads. I know for a fact that wasn't the case.
Passenger seat failed.
Driver's seat bracket broke.
Seat track spring defective.
Bucket seat tracks pertrude out from under seat creating a safety hazard due to design flaw.
Driver seat frame runners failed.
Seat brackets failed.
Front bucket seat riser has been replaced several times, however each replacement contained same defect, loose at the mounts.
Right front bucket seat mounts loose, constantly makes noise when it is sat in, replace seat riser twice.
Consumer went to apply brakes and driver's seat slid forward because bolt that catches seat on tracks broke. Dealer has inspected t vehicle.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
When the abs brakes were pressed hard the steering locked and made it difficult to control the steering wheel. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, and informed consumer that it was the characteristic of vehicle. The dealership mechanic will not repair vehicle based on information from manufacturer. The anti-lock brakes experienced extended stopping distance and caused the vehicle minor damage as the consumer attempted to avoid an accident. The dealer suggested that there was no problem. The edges of the seat were worn.
