2 Suspension problem of the 1995 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/30/2023

Vehicle was regulary maintained and did not show any air bag codes on a reader. Was told by tow truck driver a new ball joint failed after recently being replaced. This caused me to lose steeringaround a small bend and lead me to go straight into a guardrail at 55mph. Upon impact of guardrail and a 10foot drop off the air bag never went off upon a 55mph head on impact. I had be rushed to hospital and with request for lifeline but was unavalible. I spent day and half in hospital and had to have 15 stiches put in my face from where impacted the windshield 2 or 3 times. Insurance totalled out the vehicle however still in possession of it and just ems ride to e. R. Cost $3600.

4 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

When driving at highway speed or accelerating the back of the truck will violently vibrate. At time it is almost uncontrollable and becomes very hard to steer. I so I have researched this issue and it seems that there are many complaints about this exact issues with 2014 to 2019 chevy and GMC trucks. I just had the alignment done and brand new tires put on it the truck 6-22-20. Now the truck shakes even more then it did before.

6 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/26/2020

I live in oregon, my truck that I purchased from a private owner from utah in June of 2019 had 37,300 miles today's date March 1 2020 my truck has 39,100 miles. A couple of days ago I changed to my oregon license plate. While under the truck I noticed a lot of rust on many parts of the brakes, suspension and frame especially when I lowered the spare tire which showed severe rust damage. This truck has an extreme amount of rust for a vehicle built in 2017. I consider this to be a safety hazard especially because drivers use this type of truck to haul or tow heavy loads.

7 Suspension problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

The vehicle exhibits vibrations that can be rather extreme at times. It seems to be most noticeable in the 70-75 mph range but can sometimes be felt at other speeds. It feels like the vibration originates from the rear of the vehicle. Two dealerships have replaced multiple parts and have performed numerous alignments and road force balances but can not identify/remedy the problem. There are thousands of complaints on multiple online forums of this same issue for 2014-2015 gm 1500 series pickup truck. So far there has been no fix for them either. Gm treats it as an annoyance in the comfort of the ride, however if they can not identify the issue how do they know it is not a safety risk.

8 Suspension problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70- 85 mph the vehicle was shaking. The stability track warning indicator light was illuminated and flashing on and off . The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

10 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Regarding 2014 GMC Sierra 6 cylinder full size pickup. Vehicle vibrates as if running over rumble strips at apx 1500 rpm. Local gm service center and gm corporate representative stated above is normal vehicle operation. Local gm service center correctly suggested that truck be driven faster or slower to prevent vibration or that vehicle be driven in 5th gear rather than overdrive 6th gear to prevent vibration. If vehicle is nor driven faster or slower to get out of vibration range, the truck will vibrate endlessly. 2014 GMC Sierra is an unsafe vehicle. Needing to speed up or slow down to prevent vibration significantly increases risk for mva. Needing to drive in 5th gear rather than 6th gear reduces gas mileage as reported to nhsta. Local mechanics have commented that the above vibration complaint is common to 2014 6 cylinder GMC/chevy full size pickup trucks and that the vibration may be secondary to cylinder deactivation and chassis rigidity. It certainly wound be a shame for a collision to occur or for a pedestrian to get run over by a driver of a 2014 GMC/chevy full size pickup who had to speed up or slow down to reduce excessive vibration at apx 1500 rpm.

11 Suspension problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

Severe frame corrosion (all sections of frame). The undercoating is flaking off in all sections exposing bare metal which is rapidly corroding throughout the frame. The truck is in mint condition inside and out other than this issue. Gm stated that "rust" is not covered under my active warranty. This is a faulty coating application or a faulty metal issue. This vehicle will be unsafe soon and it just hit 12,000 miles. I purchased this "gm certified pre-owned" truck two weeks ago from the gm dealership and just realized that many, many complaints have been filed for this very issue.

12 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

The center console with shake excessively if going 70-80 mph. It will also shake bad going down a main road I drive on daily doing 45-55 mph. The truck has had the tires rebalanced twice now with no solution found. The truck has been in the shop over 20 days all together for other vibration issues as well.

13 Suspension problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

My wife was driving approximately 45mph in fall river when all of a sudden we heard a large bang underneath the vehicle, upon looking in the rear mirror I noticed a large steel item shoot out from underneath the vehicle sliding fast behind the vehicle with sparks noticed as it was dark, and into oncoming traffic which had to swerve to avoid an accident and avoid the propelled steel leaf spring. No accident occurred, leaf spring was recovered from the road after pulling vehicle over and noted it came from right rear of vehicle where it had snapped off. This incident created an extremely potentially serious condition which could have caused it to go into the vehicle traveling behind us. Upon bringing this vehicle to kelly's tires in middleboro, they stated and I quote "let me guess your vehicle is a 2009 Sierra, this has been a common problem with this particular make, model and year vehicle, but there is no recall at this time". This problem is serious, not to mention very costly for the consumer to repair a faulty part! this vehicle should have a recall before someone gets seriously hurt if it happens at a high rate of speed, because at the low rate of 45, we were very lucky it did not kill someone. No excuse gm needs to recall/replace/reimburse its consumers.

14 Suspension problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

2005 Sierra 1500 4x4 I bought this truck new 01/ 2005, the rear spring shackles failed on 02/20/2014 due to rust, I took it to the dealer and they said the rear 3ft of frame is badly rusted making it not roadworthy. Gms position is that this is somehow neglect on my part and will not do anything. The body of the truck is not rusted and still looks good. I find it unreasonable that a 9yr old truck with no body rust should have the frame so rusted as to make it unsafe to drive.

15 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I purchased new in 2014 a GMC Sierra 4x4 I take very good care of my vehicles I park inside a heated garage an wash once sometimes twice a week, including undercarriage. In January while washing undercarriage I noticed the coating on the frame is completely coming off the frame with just the spray of garden hose. I notified the service department at upstate Chevrolet in attica at my last service March 16 2015. The dealership will also verify how well I maintain my vehicles. I am now waiting for a response! in the mean time I went on line to see if anyone else is having same problem and to no surprise alot of GMC truck owners are complaining of this existing problem as well. Please contact me. My family an I have been dedicated gm owners and I am asking if this falls under the lemon law. Thank you for your concern.

16 Suspension problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

17 Suspension problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab. The vehicle has a vibration above 40 mph since I purchased the vehicle new in July 2013. I have had it to the dealership 6 times, of 4 tires on the vehicle they have replace 5 tires. The vehicle still has the vibration and at high speeds, the vibration increases.

18 Suspension problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/21/2013

Odd noise from vehicle. Stopped and noticed the center of the vehicle was low (box and back of cab were in contact at the top and separated by several inches at the bottom. Looked at frame and saw that right side of frame was rusted and is cracked almost all the way through, allowing frame to sag and presenting the danger of frame separation which would cause an accident.

19 Suspension problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

This is an old incident; however, until just recently, I did not realize there was a website such as yours. Also, I am reporting a specific incident, but also want to include other general information. The incident which occurred was related to my brake fluid lines rusting completely through while I was driving down the road with my two small grandchildren. When a vehicle stopped in front of me, I pushed on my brakes only to find I could not stop. Fortunately, there was a field on the right side of the road and I drove into it, rather than hitting the vehicle. When my husband checked the brakes, the lines literally fell apart. We still have this truck, but the entire underside of it (frame, spring hangers, front drive shaft, etc) are all rusted. Another issue that happened earlier this summer - the spare tire carrier had become so rusted, my spare tire actually came lose while driving down the road. Fortunately it was held up by a chain. Upon learning that this is a problem with most all gm trucks, I felt obligated to base my complaint in the hopes that something can be done. Toyota faced similar problems, but fortunately stood behind their products and made it right with their customers and I feel gm should be required to do likewise. We have tried to trade this truck in for another vehicle, but are being offered way below kelly blue book price because of the rust issue.

20 Suspension problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

I own a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 4wd. I bought this truck new in June of 2000. In the past year, the corrosion issues are becoming overwhelming. Yesterday, a brake line blew out while driving. The brake pedal went to the floor as I approached a stop sign at an intersection with a state highway. Luckily, I got stopped as I was only going 25 mph. I babied it to a local garage 1/4 mile away, and found brake fluid dripping out below the fuel tank area. After looking underneath, the mechanic noticed that most of the brake lines will need replaced because of rust. Goes along with the corrosion issue under the whole truck. I've already replaced the rear spring shackles on both sides, as one had rusted and broke in half while driving. This caused the leaf spring to slam up against underside of the bed, which dented and cracked the paint in the bed. I restore vehicles for a living, and I've seen cars from the 1940's that don't have this much rust on the underside. Come on gm!! it's great that the body looks like new and the engine runs great, but it doesn't do any good when the frame rots out from underneath!! and now the brake lines---glad I wasn't going 60 mph with a loaded trailer when it blew!!.

21 Suspension problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/13/2012

Just purchases new 2012 GMC Sierra 3500 , 400 miles , have had alignment / steering problems with a drift to left and a wondering steering wheel, also brake and abs lights on, went to dealer they looked at it for 2 hrs, and said it needed a part ordered and there was a TSB on it, the tech said it would be safe to drive but I would not have abs brakes, also he would check alignment again at time when part came in 4 days est, brake and abs light remained on, vehicle drove fine the next day until a accident, went around curveat 55 mph, applied brakes to slow, brakes went to floor un able to slow at all went off the road lost control and crashed into trees, both airbags deployed , went to emergency room with arm injury and rib injuries, brand new truck very scarry I will never buy a gm poduct again.

22 Suspension problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Sierra denali. While driving 35 mph, the contact heard a squeaking sound in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the rear axle bearing needed to be replaced; however, the contact was informed by the dealer that the part was not being manufactured and the failure could not be repaired. The current and failure mileages were 105,000.

23 Suspension problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/17/2011

The frame on the truck is cracked several inches in a couple of places and rotted. It is very thin and I was told there was nothing solid to weld to and repair it. They said I would have to have the frame replaced. The truck has just turned 100000 miles. I have had it for six years and take excellent care of it. It runs great. The body is in excellent shape, there is one small hole in the driver side rocker panel I was going to repair in the near future ( I do not know if I will now bother). Other than that the body is near perfect. There is no rot in the floors or truck bed. The repair shop could not believe how bad the frame is when the truck looks so great. I have found a number of complaints on the internet similar to this, maybe if enough people speak up something will get done. Also, the anti lock brakes have not worked for some time now. I was told they get rust in the assembly and do not work right. I have also had several brake lines break and need to be replaced. I realize that brake lines do rust over time and do need to be replaced (they should be made from stainless steel from the factory) but the anti locks should work and a frame should not rot and crack as it has.

24 Suspension problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

I experienced sudden brake failure in my driveway. There was no warning light, just the brake pedal going to the floor. My mechanic looked at the failed line and said all my lines and abs unit were corroded and needed to be replaced. He also found my right rear spring hanger was rusted off and the spring was just resting on the body. The rear wheel brake backers plates are rusted off also, and the entire frame is very corroded. This is a huge repair bill that may exceed the value of the truck. This is not normal corrosion. I have lived in nh 55 yrs and have never had a vehicle rot like this. I have a 2000 Volvo v70 with 147,000 miles on it with no issues. Obviously gm cheapened this truck up or bought defective parts. I have found hundreds of accounts on the internet identical to mine. This vehicle needs to be recalled before people are killed. I am thankful I was in my driveway and not highway or city driving at the time of the failure. Do the right thing and hold gm responsible. There would be no gm without our tax dollars and they need to make this right. Thank you.

25 Suspension problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/19/2007

26 Suspension problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

2003 Sierra steering mechanism makes a noise. The consumer was told when the part in the steering was replaced under warranty, someone placed it on too tight and now the part was out of shape. The mechanic also stated that the part would have to be lubricated often because there were no grease fittings on it. Updated. 07/21/06.

27 Suspension problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/02/2005

The contact stated the front brake lines were rubbing against the caliper, causing a hole/loss of fluid, and failure in the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a dealership, where they replaced the brake line, and placed a rubber boot where the wearing occurred. The dealership said defect was a result of the suspension modification to the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to another mechanic, who stated the rubber boot would not stop the wearing, and the modification could not have caused the problem.

On several occasions, the right front wheel would lock up causing the vehicle to jump across lanes before the vehicle stopped.

30 Suspension problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

There is rattle/vibration in my truck's steering column. Any time I go over an uneven surface I hear an annoying rattle coming from under the hood in front the steering wheel, and I feel a consistent vibration in the steering wheel. This rattle started with about 35,000 miles on the vehicle, just in time for the warranty to expire. My truck now has 60,000 miles on it with the same annoying problem. My dealer keeps telling me there is probably going to be a recall on it, so I don't want to pay to repair it (whatever may be wrong with it).

31 Suspension problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/02/2002

Brakes will go out while driving, and the pedal will go to the floor before the vehicle even starts to slow down. Contacted the dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything. The consumer states that the ride control will not go on; there is an internal short-replaced the ride control, the consumer states that the abs light stays on-faulty speed sensors, and right front seat belt is not retracting.
