1 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1997 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/03/2004

I had loaded some lumber into the back of the truck and the tailgate cable snapped. It had rusted inside of the plastic barrier. The lumber slid out of the truck while traveling. No one was injured. I contacted GMC, and they said their was no recall on that problem. I will have to purchase another cable for the tailgate.

3 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1998 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/04/2003

Intermittently windshield wipers became inoperable, obstructing the driver's view. A recall had been issued on similar makes and models. However, this vehicle was not included due to VIN. The consumer turned the switch off then on again and the wipers would work again. As time went on the problem worsened. The consumer had to turn the switch on and off several times. Sometimes they wouldn't come on for 15 minutes or until the next day. The recall stopped at the 1997 model year. The consumer was the only driver of the vehicle and has since paid to the have the module replaced. Also the tailgate did not aloways lock into place.

4 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1997 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/09/2003

Failure of tailgate support cable on my 1997 GMC Sierra short bed pick-up. Vehicle was primarily used for transportation to work and home. Cargo is very rarely transported, but on the day of the failure several dozen 2x4s were transported less than 3 miles with the tailgate down. The left side cable support broke during transport. The load was not lost in the roadway because the right side remained intact. Tailgate is no longer used to support any load due to fear of failure ,and remained upright and latched. No replacement part has been located.

5 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1998 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/11/2003

Broken tail gate cables on a 98 GMC k 1500 pickup.

6 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/20/2001

Repeated abs brake failure. This has not been corrected despite numerous attempts to repair problem(s). Heater motor malfunction, repeated wiper arm replacement, tailgate handle malfunction.

7 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/07/2000

1999 GMC Sierra 1gtek19tsxe504480 tailgate cables breaking. Replaced first cable just after warranty ran out. I should have replaced both cables at that time. Some time later I replaced both cables. These only lasted a very short time. At the present time I have one cable broken and the one left is streched to the breaking point. I had one incident of the tail gate falling off. I feel buying more cables from gm is a waste of money. The incident date is a guess.

8 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/19/2000

I complained to GMC directly about abs failure and reported it to atty. Gen of nys. I was told its normal wear in states with salt, funny that the paint is good to this day.

9 Tailgate Latch problem of the 1996 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/05/2000

The tailgate latch will not unlock the tailgate. The windshield wipers will not work, or will only work on high speed. Will sometimes work if turned to high first then to low speed. While starting to move from a stop sign the drivers seat broke from the adjustment rails, allowing the seat to fall to the rear, resulting in not being able to control the vehicle.
