I had no trouble with the tires until late may, 2000. During the last week of may through the middle of June 2000, I had five flats on these tires. Apparently, the temperature in texas was a factor. There was never any foreign object in the hole in the tire. The holes were always of a rupture type, never a clean puncture. The flats always occurred when I was driving on gravel roads. The last flat was on the right front tire. I was again on a gravel road and was forced to brake suddenly. Immediately upon braking, I experienced a rapid, almost instantaneous, deflation of the right front tire. The tire was not repairable, as the star shaped hole was approximately 2-3 inches in diameter. After this failure, with less than 12,000 miles wear on them, I replaced all four tires on my truck. At that time, nothing had been made public about problems with firestone tires. (dot number: w273wma279 tiresize: p26575r16).

Vehicle vibrates severely at speeds above 55. Vehicle shakes when brakes are applied. Dealer has advised potential problems with front hubs, rear shocks, wheels and tires. Vehicle has been to dealer three (3) times since 08-25-99 for diagnosis and repair of problem, but as of 09-10-99, the problem of overall major vibration hasn't been resolved.
Having the wrong tire pressure decal is a serious problem and so far for over a month GMC does not seem to be concerned! as recived from the dealer my half-ton truck has the wrong tire pressure decal on the ds door. It is an sle VIN 1gtec14v8xz526276 with p255/70r16 tires on it. . The sticker has a VIN of 1gfc29u7xz178268 model c25753 and telling me to inflate my front tire to 50psi and the back 80psi !. The max. Tire pressure is 50psi. Inflating my tires to the decal pressures could cause an explosion. The owners manual tells you to use the sticker to inflate your tires. As a member of sae I saw right off something was wrong and so far GMC does not think this is a big deal. If someone that knows no better on tire inflation were to get a bad sticker like this it would be a big deal. The sticker on there is for a c3500 dually pick-up. I wanted you to help me and make GMC take a look to see if this is not the only problem truck for tire inflation.
During the 29 months I have owned my GMC I have had 4 flats and 2 blowouts. All of them occurred with less than 16,000 miles on the tires. Obviously there is a design flaw with the steeltex tires. (tiresize: 245/75r16)( dot number: tire size: 245/75r16 ).

Goodyear tire failure.

Three of the four tires have failed due to insufficient size of tire on automobile. (goodyear wrangler rt/s) p265-75r16.
If Ford sees fit to recall the firestone wilderness ats they installed, why doesn't GMC? either the explorer really is to blame, or the tires are. If the tires are, why isn't gm recalling their 16 inch wilderness ats?.
Lt 245/75r16 vibrate/shake the entire vehicle at 40-45 mph. You can feel it thru your back. Worse when cold in the am. Balancing by the GMC and firestone dealers have not helped. Firestone have offered a generous prorated trade toward dueller ht 6 ply passenger tire. 50% of tire has worn by tread depth at 18000 miles. Should be a 50000 mile tire. Ride has gotten significantly worse in the last few thousand miles. Still occurs in neutral and appears to come from the rear. No vibration thru the steering column. At higher speeds around 60-65, sometimes is noticeable. Feels very unsafe, especially towing camper and at highway speeds. Tires were made in canada. (tiresize: lt245/75r)( dot number: tire size: lt245/75r ).
The vehicle came equipped with tires that were inadequate for trailer towing and off road travel, the dealer refuses to change the tires because the consumer did not request the change at the time of purchase (firestone wilderness at p265/75r16 max load 2601 lbs at 44 psi, 4 ply load rating b). Nlm.
Original tires are 4-ply, which are insufficient for the off road vehicle resulting in premature tire failure.
Large chunks of rubber is coming off vehicle's tires. The dealership indicated this is caused by vehicle being driven over a gravel surface.

Tires on a 3500 GMC Sierra were not the correct tires for the consumer's vehicle.
I have firestone wilderness at 265/75 r16 tires on my pick-up. I am a disabled person and I am very concerned about the firestone tires that came on my GMC truck. It is my understanding that the have been problems with the 16" tires along with the 15" tires wich firestone has been recalling. I urge you to make firestone tire CO. Recall the 16" tires also. Because of these tire problems I do not feel secure in driving on these existing firestone tires. Thank you.
