Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problems of the 1999 GMC Sierra 1500

1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2009

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving approximately 5 mph on a gravel road surface, there was no response when the contact depressed the brake pedal. It took excessive force just to stop the vehicle. Prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the stopping distance increased. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the technician stated that the front wheel speed sensor was corroded and caused the failure. The vehicle is in the process of being repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 116,000.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received a recall notice for the service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:wheel speed sensor. Although there were no failures at the time, the contact had the recall repair performed. A few thousand miles after the repair, the brakes began to fail. When approaching a stop sign, traffic light, and/or during acceleration the brakes grab. This causes the vehicle to lung, lurch, and/or jerk. The failure occurs intermittently and without warning. The dealer stated that since the recall repair was previously performed, the contact was responsible for any additional repairs. The recall number was unknown. The failure mileage was 55,000 and current mileage was 67,730.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2007

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. While coming to a stop at 5 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor. The vehicle slid and stopped 3 inches away from a store window. The dealer stated that the wheel speed sensors failed. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 130,000.
