Dash is cracked in the "common place" for these vehicles. Corner above the instrument panel and at the passenger side airbag, the transmission is also a issue, the 3/4 gear packet has went out and the housing inside the transmission is cracked, so it would've broke soon also.
Cracked dashboard effecting airbag on passenger side. Vehicle stationary at residence in driveway.
The dashboard has cracked and there are sharp pieces from the broken parts.
Here are huge cracks on my dash!! I'm afraid if the air bag comes out it will bust the dash in pieces and there's no telling where it may hit! this is a huge problem in these vehicles and it's insane that y'all not gm will address the issue.
"GMC dash recall" my 2008 GMC sierra dash is cracking and I looked up the problem on google and it looks like thousands of others have the same problem as me. The dash is cracked in such a way that at a certain angle I can see wires exposed from the airbag cover. I would like to see a recall to fix the cracked dash.
This vehicle was acquired in March, 2016 with an intact dashboard, 142,000 miles on the odometer. Over the last 9 months multiple, penetrating cracks have developed in the top of the plastic dashboard due to cause(s) unknown. This has greatly diminished the structural integrity of the dashboard to the point that at least one top piece of the dashboard is loose due to the cracks. Two cracks are in the center of the dashboard top and one on the right side of the dashboard immediately adjacent to the front passenger airbag. Current miles on the odometer are 146,000. In the event of airbag deployment during a crash, the likelihood is very high that plastic from the dashboard could fracture, become airborne, and result in injury to occupant(s) of the vehicle due to either the normal deployment velocity of the takata passenger airbag, or worse yet if the passenger airbag inflator fails to function as designed and activates with excessive force. This vehicle is subject to recall nhsta #16v381, issued 5/27/2016 for defective front passenger airbag inflators. Further, the vehicle has spent its entire operating life in the "zone a" high absolute humidity region (florida). In and of itself, the cracking dashboard presents a safety hazard during a crash with airbag deployment. However, combined with conditions recorded in recall 16v381, I maintain this combined hazard presents an unacceptable life safety risk. I strongly recommend that the NHTSA immediately initiate an investigation into the cause of the noted dashboard cracks on both gm and GMC gmt900 truck products, and further recommend that a recall action be suggested to general motors corporation on gmt900 vehicles registered in "zone a" to replace defective dashboards. As of this date gm has not completed the recall action under nhsta #16v381 on my vehicle, therefore the accentuated hazard remains unabated.
The dash is cracking in multiple places.
Dashboard cracked in two places. The passenger side cracked on the portion covering the passenger air bag. I am worried that if inflated, the plastic shards will impale any passenger. Also the dashboard cracked on the driver side above the instrument cluster. It is beginning to cave it.
My dashboard has several cracks exposing the electrical components within the dash. These cracks are in various places across the entire dash. I purchased this vehicle brand new and it is currently in excellent condition (with the exception of the dash) I am concerned that if the air bag were to be deployed the plastic dashboard would explode and expose my passengers or myself to additional hazards within the vehicle. I am also concerned that the electrical system in my dash board is now exposed to additional hazards due to the additional exposure to the sun. I am filing this incident with the hopes that it will help a recall to be issued. I noticed the first small crack in 2011. I have kept an eye on it over the years and as of today, there are exposed openings in the dash in several places. Until today, I thought that I might have just been unlucky, however after doing some research online, it is apparent that I am not alone, and this should be recalled under a manufacturers defect. Thank you for taking the time to file this report on my behalf. Feel free to email me with additional information as needed. Best regards.
My dash has cracked in 2 places!! one being by the airbag. I'm afraid if the airbag deploys debri will be thrown at the passenger!.
My dash cracked 5 years ago, I replaced with new from dealer $1000. 00 cost and it is now cracked again. In addition I have an outstanding recall on airbags that have been recalled but gm does not have parts to replace. So now I could have shrapnel from airbag and shrapnel from my new $1000. 00 dash. Wow gm, get it together and get the airbags in stock and stop using inferior materials on $1000. 00 dash boards.
The upper dash panel cracked after being parked outside. I thought someone broke in and hit it with something, it is cracked down center of instrument panel toward windshield then across to air bag compartment. My fear is that if the air bag that is pending recall information passenger air bag deploys and passengers could be hit by plastic shrapnel. Another concern is a child gets hand or arm injured by simply pressing too hard on flimsy dashboard. I am a 100% service connected combat veteran and need to sell truck to purchase a van for transportation. The cracked dash is hindering the sale at a decent price. The dealer said repair is around $1200 and I don't have that kind of money laying around anyway if I am unable to sell it.
I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 I bought brand new and my dash is cracking severely in two different places! one is right behind the passenger side airbag and is about 1 1/4 inches and the other is on the driver side above the guage cluster and is about 6 inches or more!.
Cracked dash - the dash of my GMC truck has cracked in two places within the last year; one crack by the passenger side airbag and the other above the instrument cluster. This vehicle has always been garage - kept and very well maintained. This is a very common problem as evidenced by online blogs.
Cracks in dash above the airbag and instrument cluster. This is a problem gm is ignoring.
Dash by passenger airbag cracked and dealership replaced 2 years later it's cracked in the same spot.
I bought a 2008 GMC sierra in February 2016 and upon taking ownership, noticed two cracks in the dash. One is behind the instrument cluster and the other on the left-hand corner of the airbag. The cracked dash pieces could become shrapnel in the event of an airbag deployment. This dash issue is a common and known issue and gm refuses to do a recall.
Dash cracking near airbag storage and on drivers instrument cluster. This has been a progressive problem starting in January of 2016. Vehicle is garaged on a regular basis.
Gm knows there is an issue with the cracked dashboards on 07-13 gm trucks/suvs, but refuses to voluntary recall. If the vehicle is involved in a crash, there is likelihood the airbag could either not deploy or if it does, it could catch the crack in the dash and either not deploy properly, or send shrapnel into the driver or passenger.
Dash is cracking in several different parts. Could be a safety hazard if vehicle is involved in crash. Shards of plastic may hit vital body parts.
Multiple cracks in dash - by airbag and above instrument console.
Cracked dashboard in area around passenger airbag. Could cause debris when or if airbag is deployed. Also cracked above instrument cluster on driver side.
The dash on both sides of the speaker has cracked through to the air-bag on the passenger side and through several inches of the instrument cluster dash cover on the drivers side. This has progressively gotten worse until the whole assembly vibrates worsening the crack until it appears that if the air bag deployed, pieces of the dash material could disintegrate and injure someone. I've been watching this for about 4 years. This is a product defect and should be covered by the manufacturer.
Major cracks in dashboard.
2008 GMC sierra denali has 2 cracks on the dashboard, one by the airbag and the second over the drivers side dashboard. This is definitely a manufactures defect that GMC is totally ignoring. Does someone have to be maimed or killed before they take reasonable accountability instead of just denying everyone until we go away? we need government intervention to hold them accountable. The dash board rattles and shakes over every little bump!.
Takata recall: GMC has known about this issue way to long and still to this date cannot give me a date or time frame when they can fix my issue. This should have already been corrected. The second issue is the epidemic dash cracking that is obviously an engineering issue and GMC should be held accountable to correct this defect in their dashes. My dash cracks are almost identical to thousands of other GMC owners and when there is an obvious flaw, they should correct it. Down at the bottom where is say when did this happen? I know if happened it 2010, but not a specific day or month.
Dashboard cracked in the middle. Plenty of complaints online about this and needs to be recalled.
