1 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

On making a turn at low speed, my engine has cut out completely. I had full loss of acceleration, power steering ,ac, radio. I put the truck in neutral and restart the engine to get to safety. This has occurred 3 times in the last 20 days. Twice in city traffic, once on the highway, turning off for gas. The "service steering assist" light appeared. I took the truck for a full diagnostic at a local electric repair shop, for $170. 00. The tech found nothing after hooking my truck to his computer. The day I retrieved my truck from the electrical shop, I stopped in walmart for groceries. My key fob would not lock or unlock my doors. I manually unlocked the truck to determine that the truck would not start at all. No panel/ interior lights, no response in ignition,no automatic unlocking, the truck was completely dead. Roadside service came to tow it, and the truck was jumpstarted from his battery pack. The key fob began to work, unlocking, etc. I towed the truck home. I have VIN checked my truck and there are none but I believe my vehicular failure refers to gm part 573 safety recall 17v-414 regarding the loss of eps. A secondary recall which may apply is gm# 14v26000 re steering linkages, tie rod assembly. As the "steer assist' alert was what I saw. I have the work invoice from the electrical shop, if needed.

2 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/22/2017

I was leaving a store parking lot and began a left turn when the steering wheel was wrenched out of my hands as it spun around causing my truck to veer sharply to the left and to hit another stationary vehicle. GMC service department said the steering was broken and proceeded to replace the steering module. I retained the old module as evidence the tie rod became disconnected causing the accident. No one was seriously injured although I has the skin on my hand and forearm rubbed off by the steering wheel.

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

While driving a brand new 2008 GMC sierra, 4 door, 4 wheel drive with only 872 miles on the odometer, going approximately 30 to 40 mph, the steering knuckle holding the tie rod broke on drivers front side. The driver impacted a pull camper trailer exploding the tire upon impact with the camper. The wheel rim was turned side ways as it impacted the tires of the camper flattening 2 tires curling the camper wheel rims and causing damage along the side of the camper. Then impacted a Ford car down the drivers side that was following the camper. The impact caused the airbag to deploy in the truck. The tire on the truck was found over 200 feet from the impact. The markings on the tire were consistent with the steering knuckle breakage. Inspection by both the tow truck owner and the collision repair shop noticed that the part looked defective and pointed it out to the owner of the truck. The tow truck operator owns an identical truck and was very concerned about the safety of his own vehicle. This vehicle has not been repaired and is available for inspection. If failure would have occurred a few hours later on interstate 95 at 70 mph (a planned trip) the outcome could have been much different.
