The check engine warning light was illuminated due to the fuel tank cap being missing. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 14v246000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a short in the steering gear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
