The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 mph, the power steering became inoperable. The check engine warning light was illuminated due to the fuel tank cap being missing. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 14v246000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a short in the steering gear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
