Faulty pigtail connector for fule injectors. Cause the vehicle to shut down even while going down the highway possibly causing injury by immediate deceleration wich could cause an accident. For me on this vehicle I’ve had this happen three times and it has cost me anywhere from $800 to 1000 per injector especially if damage is done to one of the fuel injectors.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 01/22/2022

Truck has had multiple issues related to the electrical system and truck modules. It is my opinion that these are all related to voltage issues or module problems. I have had multiple infotainment issues with delays loading, freezing up etc. Dealer has ran updates and checks with nothing found. In October around $35k miles the truck radio would not work if I used the push button start. If I shut the truck off opened the door and let everything reset I could push the start button in the truck and the radio would work majority of the time. The next day I went out to a completely dead truck. I talked to my service department at the local dealer and they said I would need to bring it in but suggested I disconnect the batteries and recharge the batteries. After doing so everything started working correctly. It fixed my radio problem and never went dead again. Since then I have experienced popping noises through the speakers when playing music occasionally. Over the last few weeks I noticed the engine does not attempt to increase cold idle speed until I press the brake to put it in gear. January 22nd I hit the autostart button and it did not work. I started the truck and it had cel, traction control, park brake and wrench, lights on with service emissions, and power reduced messages displayed. Truck is running odd. Codes present are (engine gmlan)p0118 - engine coolant temp circuit high voltage, (brakes gmlan_abs) u0401- invalid data from engine control module, p0562- system voltage low, (hvac controls gmlan_hvac) b1325 - . Control module power circuit. Truck is starting and charging fine. No connection issues at batteries. There are many TSB's and many complaints regarding similar issues. Common brake and emissions faults with minor differences. Module failures, communication faults, and or electrical faults are likely causing all of these similar issues. They need to be categorized as the same failure group which will show gm has a bigger issue.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 10/29/2021

I have a 2013 GMC sierra, purchased new in 2012, has approximately 35,000 miles. The check engine light came on while driving and suddenly another light came on. Then a third light came on claiming poor engine fluid quality. I immediately stopped at an auto parts store and put def fluid in the pickup and continued to drive thinking the lights would go out, but instead a warning was flashing on the dash that says after so many miles the truck will be slowed down. We started getting nervous because we were driving on the highway and if the truck suddenly slows down whilst driving in highspeed traffic, our slower vehicle would potentially cause a collision and put us and others in harms way. In reading your own safety site, there is a recall on the vehicle regarding faulty airbags, so it could be even worse! in our investigations of our current issue, we have found that there was a lawsuit from 2019 against gm and their faulty fuel system with their trucks. . 41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

I was driving at approximately 40 mph on a busy city street, I was going to be getting on the freeway where my speed would be in excess of 70mph. Suddenly without any warning, my 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 hd duramax died. I had no power at all which means no steering, brakes, etc. I was able to get the vehicle off the road with brute force. After the vehicle was towed to the dealership they inspected it and said that the fuel injector pump failed which put metal throughout the whole fuel injection system (>$7000 repair). While doing some additional research on the internet I find out that this is a common problem for the 2011-2016 gm duramax trucks, because gm chose to use a bosch fuel injector pump which is not suitable for use with us low sulphur diesel fuel.

Lost power at 60 mph on 5 lane freeway on 6% grade with no warning when turbo charger variable vane got stuck. Had to navigate through 2 lanes of trucks to get into the emergency parking lane. Computer limited me to 15 mph. Computer designed to do this. No accident happened due to some very courteous truck drivers. It seemed like a safety issue to me, but don't know if it is important enough for your to investigate.

While traveling on the interstate at speed and passing slower traffic; engine power fell off, change fuel filter now, engine derate, and check engine lite, occured. I had to maneuver with no power through the traffic to get out of the travel lanes. I was then stranded on the interstate as the truck would not start. I was able to get a mechanic to come and change the fuel filter on the side of the highway, but the truck would not start. The truck was eventually towed to a shop where it was diagnosed with a catastrophic failure of the fuel pump (diesel motor driven pump).

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

I purchased this truck November 26 2016, within a month I was sitiing in my driveway I turned the truck on when I went out to go to work in the morning I got a bunch of flashing lights service stabilitrak, service 4wheel drive, service traction control, made multiple attempts to contact five star auto in biddeford, brought the truck in they refused to fix issues, asked for a trade nothing on the lot was worth purchasing without putting me out more than I already owed, christmas morning the truck was towed to weirs in arundel they pulled the truck apart and found a bunch of wires were corroded and the frame of the truck was caked with rocks mud and sand which had caused the corrosion, they fixed the issue. Within a couple months the same issue came back up and once again the truck was in the shop getting worked on. The problem is not fixed after spending money to fix a problem I had less than 30 days from buying this vehicle(driving completely normal will cause these lights to flash at random times) , all the lights do still come on randomly and today while at the dayton country store my transmission in my truck went, I am waiting to get my truck towed from the store to a shop! for a vehicle that the carfax came back clean and the dealership made no attempt in helping me fix or pay for any issues I have had. Im now struggling with a vehicle that I was lied to about the condition it was in after paying $32,000 for a truck. I have kept all documentation and have images that were sent to me from weirs.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

The biggest problem (out of many) that makes this vehicle unsafe, stressful, and discomforting to drive is how it will randomly decides to raise the idle to 900+ rpm (in gear) and basically drives it's self. During this condition it is very difficult to operate vehicle. Because of its random pattern it caused me to have an accident that resulted in $3500 in body damage to the truck. Thank god no one was hurt. Wear and tear is drastically increased as the vehicle is trying to drive on its own as I'm trying to stop at traffic light, stop signs, or simply parking. Drive-train is banging, brakes are working harder, and fuel is being wasted. Now, add a payload or trailer as I often do and problems are magnified. Essentially the vehicle is aging and wearing its self out before its time. I have been ordered by pima county court to have the vehicle fixed or replace. The officer that gave me the citation witnessed the high engine idle and agreed that it would be difficult to stop especially with a loaded trailer as I had that day. Officer also testified this in court on 11/4/2015. There is a current law suit in California for this defect. My local dealers will not work on vehicle anymore do liability and told me take it up with gm. Gm has provided no assistance.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

I own a 2003 GMC duramax 167000 miles, it has been a great truck until recently, after engine gets hot it will not start back up until it has cooled off! have not been able to find the problem yet, but found a lot of complaints online from people with the same problem, [injectors], very expensive to repair!!! this problem is very frustrating, would be great if general motors would correct this problem!!!!.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/23/2011

Vehicle exhibited "low coolant" warning in dic after gm def recall was performed. "low coolant" warning returned after multiple repairs to the coolant system from servicing dealer. Failure of coolant system resulted in a failure of the head gasket and water intrusion into the #7 cylinder. Vehicle is 12 months old and had 15,000 miles at the time of failure. Vehicle also exhibited multiple electrical system failures including: dead battery no start condition multiple times trailer brake system failure engine hour meter failure intermittent electrical failures from door locks, lights, radio. Selling dealer recalibrated ecm twice, but electrical issues are still present.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/02/2011

While driving on the highway, my 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 displayed a "reduced engine power" warning on my dashboard. My vehicle lost all speed control, decelerating from 65 mph to 20 mph in a matter of seconds. I immediately pulled over to the side of the highway and shut my truck off. Once I restarted the vehicle, the message was gone and my truck was fine. It was a very scary incident not being able keep the right speed for the conditions on the highway.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

Engine died while driving on the freeway.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/12/2010

Faulty hoses sweating out transmission and steering fluids. Replaced once by dealership, then an independent shop after dealership used same oem parts that fail. Dashboard crack top left corner of air bag panel takata defective equipment all three complaints are similar to thousands of other vehicles.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

I have owned my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500hd truck since it was new. The vehicle currently has approximately 92000 miles on it. With the brake line problem I recently had I figured I should report the other issues that I don?t think I should be having with a vehicle that is less than 10 years old. The oil cooler lines and the transmission cooler lines have all rusted through and have had to be replaced. Along with the lines, the connectors for the lines have all had to be replaced due to catastrophic failure (they rusted so bad that were falling apart). If the vehicle was 20 years old I might expect this problem, but not on one less than 10 years old and the mileage that it has.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

The engine died on me in a parking lot and wouldn't restart for about 15-20 minutes. The second incidence was the same. The third incident, it stopped on me as I was coming off an exit to get on the highway. I had just reached 50 mph when it cut out. It would not restart for 15-20 minutes. The next and final event before reaching a resolution to the problem. . . The truck cut out as I was on an extremely dangerous and busy section of highway doing 60 mph. I thank god it was a straight stretch or something fatal could have occured. In between each of these events, I took the truck to the mechanic and tried different oxygen sensors and other repairs that I was told wasn't a problem but I had no other explanation for what happened. There were no codes thrown for the mechanic to go by. After the last event on the highway, I took it to the dealer and told them I would not except the truck back until they knew what it was. After much arguing, they agreed to replace the crankshaft position sensor upon my request. They said it was not throwing a code for that and they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't break off during repair and result in an even costlier repair. I didn't care at that point and told them to do it. I had read many other reports on mechanic sites about this sensor being recalled on some but not all GMC 2500 hd trucks so I insisted the dealer replace mine. Mine did not fall under the recalled VIN# so it was out of pocket for me! it fixed the problem. I have not had a problem since and it's been 2 years now. I am still upset at the lack of agreement about extending the recall on this issue to other VIN#'s. This was a known problem that could have gotten not only me killed, but my 2 young sons who ride with me everywhere. I am very angry at the makers! nothing will fix that. Ever.
