Safety concern report: 2024 GMC sierra gear shifter obstruction ? vehicle information: 2024 GMC sierra [specify 1500/2500/3500] [optional: VIN number] ? description of the problem: I am writing to report a design concern with my 2024 GMC sierra. The location and height of the gear shifter on this vehicle significantly obstruct the driver’s view of the center infotainment screen and console, especially while seated in a normal, upright driving position. The gear shifter blocks important information such as navigation directions, eta, media controls, and other on-screen notifications. This forces me to lean forward or reposition myself in an unnatural way while driving, which I believe creates an unnecessary distraction and increases the risk of driver error or loss of situational awareness. I have attempted to adjust my seating position, steering wheel angle, and seat height, but none of these adjustments fully resolve the obstruction. After discussing this issue with other owners online, I found that multiple GMC sierra owners have experienced the same visibility problem. Some have even resorted to aftermarket modifications to address the design flaw. I believe this is a design oversight that affects safe vehicle operation. I respectfully request that GMC and the national highway traffic safety administration review this issue for potential corrective action. ? requested action: please investigate this safety concern and consider potential solutions, such as a recall, design revision, or retrofit option to improve screen visibility without forcing the driver into unsafe driving postures. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The truck is not even 2 weeks old and driving down the road at less than 50mph the sunroof exploded. Nothing fell on the sunroof and no other vehicles were near the truck at the time the sunroof busted.
Warning chimes and tones go silent intermittently, thus not providing audible alerts to the driver of vehicle problems and/or warnings. The problem has been reported and confirmed by a gm dealership. The dealership confirmed that there is a bulletin within the gm system that there is a problem however there is no current fix. This problem has existed for over 10 months of ownership. There is no warning that this has occurred other than there is no warning chimes/tones, only visual indicators.
Cracks in the rear sliding window plastic upper rail glass guide causing rear window leaking water and causing mold from water leaking. GMC has a service bulletin number 18-na-383 knowing of this issue and not telling customers purchasing the GMC vehicle. The service bulletin was released in 2019 before purchasing the truck and they still didn't inform the customers. My child rides in the back in a car seat and now has been breathing in this mold and mildew for how long. I have had my vehicle in with titus will GMC in olympia multiple times for service and inspection of various recalls and still didn't inform me of this issue.
Loss of audio throughout an entire drive/ignition cycle. This includes the loss of the blinker click/clack audio when the blinker is on. When the loss of audio issue occurs, the driver has no audio input indicating a blinker is on even though the actual blinker is flashing to other drivers. Therefore, an unaware driver (due to no audio feedback) with a blinker left on could have another driver pull out in front of them thinking they intended to turn with the result being a collision.
I have a notice of a recall for the transmission control module and I took it to a GMC dealership and they are refusing to fix it. The transmission will not shift so I am unable to drive it.
Replaced the exhaust tail pipe tip past the dpf and warning light came on after miles of driving. Vehicle was locked up and only able to drive 55 mph and there was a countdown to it dropping even lower. Dangerous to limit speed. This shouldn’t happen anyway with just changing out exhaust tailpipe. Very costly unnecessary repair.
Odi # 11646185 my truck on [xxx] leaked transmission coolant from the jumper line leak( which this part is recalled but not for my VIN #) $400. 61 dollars and left me stranded in the middle of the highway and had to be towed. After the repair and checking the transmission was discovered it was ruined because of the leak. So now I have to have a new transmission installed at jennings in beardstown IL to the cost of $7363. 39. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My truck had been sitting idling for about 20 minutes on a job site on flat level ground. I turn around for whatever reason and my truck is driving forward with on one in it but my dog. The truck ran into an out rigger on my crane. I had 3 of my employees there that witnessed this happen. I got into my truck and the shifter was in drive. Somehow my dog was able to shift my truck into drive from park while it was sitting idle. I have 3 eye witnesses as well as pictures of the incident. I have pictures but was no able to upload them to they portal.
Had tailgate switch safety recall completed in June 2024. Beginning November 25th, 2024, tailgate switch began randomly opening tailgate while driving and parked with vehicle turned off. The lower “push button” in attached photo is the one that controls the tailgate. One time while closing tailgate, the switch kept activating repeatedly for nearly a minute before it stopped. We live in the mountains and have been having heavy fog and rain. Contacted dealer and dealer stated that we would be responsible for repair. Contacted dealer on December 2, 2024 and dealer scheduled truck for repair December 18th 2024. Truck is not equipped with any indicator if tailgate comes open. Have to keep tailgate strapped shut at all times now.

Gm refuses to repair the defective finish on my truck, their claim is that it only applies to trucks covered under the 3 year -36k warranty. This is a manufacturing defect that they admit to in the attached TSB. There should be a recall mandated for this. We spent a ton of hard earned money on these trucks.

I have a 5th wheel with solar and my brake controler stops working periodically. I have a case# with gm 9-13676268071. I also hjave an extended warranty with gm and it's not covered due to my VIN# not being on a bullentin# 23-na-149. Gm also has a customer satisfaction progream # n232414840 and still won't cover it. This is a major safety item and concern for me.
The GMC trailering app will not read trailer tire pressure above 100psi. When trailer tires carry a safe psi amount above 100psi the trailering app will not be able to confirm if the trailer tire is low in pressure which could cause a massive wreck if driver did not know the trailer tire was going bad. Truck was taken to dealer, they tried to follow bulletin 22-na-172 to have the pressure to read above 100psi. But they could not get it to work, I was told it was a trailering app issue and nothing they can do until gm takes the steps to fix the trailering app.

The ac/heat blower (fan) stopped working. The vehicle was new purchased new may 2023. August 2024 the blower motor stopped working. Took the vehicle to jerry's GMC weatherford, TX (where it was purchased) and they check the blower motor and replaced it. No charge for the service. Reason given for blower motor problem was, "motor shorted out, burnt the wiring and the connector". Now, February, 2025, the blower motor stopped working once again. Took it back to jerry's GMC, weatherfore, TX. The blower motor had shorted out once again, burnt the wires and connector. Reason given for the reaccurring problem, " the blower motors they are getting have a bearing problem, causing the motor to go to ground, overheat the wiring and burns the connector". They replaced the blower motor once again and no charge. The reason for this notice is, with these motors shorting out because of internal problems, the wiring melting and connector melting, there is the possibility of a fire hazard. We feel that there needs to an investigation into this problem before something happens. Thanks.
When it rains, there are puddles of water on the passenger side! cannot figure out how the water is getting in. . My concern is of a potential electrical short/ fire / failure of a system that doesn’t allow me to operate the vehicle safely! possibly, affecting other functions of the vehicle during operation!.

Ac will not run while truck is in idle. I was told by the dealer all gm trucks with the 6. 6 gasoline engine this is a standard on them. This is a major safety issue when it becomes 100 f outside.
Well, we ended up having a problem with our transmission in our 2020 truck. I am the wife and I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden the truck started bucking and went down to 35 mph. I was in a middle lane on the highway when this happened which was very scary! then I was stranded along side the highway until I could get help. Here we found that our transmission went out already only after four years, which is crazy. Very crazy! we bought this truck because we were told with the weight of this truck and all that it would pull out 42 foot fifth wheel we have. So of course we did use this truck to pull our trailer and now four years later we have been without a truck because we cannot even find a transmission with our transmission code of omef. Now today we found a possibility which is going to cost $7000 which is love ludacris! we buy a $65,000 truck just for years ago and now had to put $7000 out for a transmission. Is there anything we can do to rectify this situation??.
The tailgate was automatically dropped while trailer was connected. Destroyed my tailgate. This should never happen.
The tailgate latch is not waterproof, and opens on its own sometimes. This can allow things to fall out of your truck.

GMC has a problem with the electronic brake controller on their 2024 Sierra 2500hd and 3500hd trucks. All trailers are required to have trailer brakes. In addition the trailer must be equipped with an auxillary battery to activate the emergency breakaway brakes. If the voltage on this battery is higher than the towing vehicle battery, the vehicle controller can display a trailer wiring fault display. When this happens there are no brakes on the trailer. This fault happens intermittantly and can last between 10 seconds to 30 seconds. We constantly have this problem with our vehicle. On two occasions we were in an emergency situation towing a12,500 lb load and had no brakes. This is a severe safety concern. The GMC dealer stated that the problem is because our trailer uses a regular car battery to work the hydraulics and the brakes. They stated that the controller pings the trailer to see is anything is connected and that the car battery can interfear with this signal. When this signal does not return the controller senses that no trailer is connected and disables the trailer brakes. The trailer that we have is new and it is wired according to industry standards. Thre are thousands of trailers on the road that have this configuratiion. We have inspected the trailer and cannot find wiring problems. We have towed the same tyrailer with two different trucks and do not have this problem. A quick search on the internet will reveal that many other people are experiencing the same problem.
[xxx]: after arriving home and parking in my driveway (plugged in the block heater that came installed from the factory), approximately 35 minutes later my neighbor rang the doorbell. She was yelling that my truck was on fire! the flames were starting to hit my eaves on my house. I put the fire out with my hose. The sparks fire department had to pry open my hood to disconnect the batteries in order to stop the truck from lighting back on fire. The vehicle has been inspected by general motors and turned over to their insurance. My insurance has also inspected the vehicle and stated they believe that the wiring to the block heater was faulty. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem. This truck has 19,000 miles and is 1. 5 years old (2022). How could this be turned over to gm's insurance and not under warranty? I have not had my truck for over 2 months now. I wonder how many of these trucks are lighting on fire? the truck is currently at the local dealership and is available for inspection. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I sent a certified 3 page letter along with 4 pages of supporting documentation on April 25th, it was received and signed for on 4/30 at 10:16 am. I have still not received a response. I called to follow up and the reference number is #1516488, they told me to file the case online. I have copy of the letter I can resend via email or upload here.

Upon starting our 2024 GMC Sierra 2500hd after towing a camping trailer for approximately 200 miles, the following error notifications would cycle every 20 seconds to 5 minutes: "check trailer wiring" "service trailer brake system" the trailer brake would become disabled after these errors, and sometimes would connect with a "trailer brake connected" message, only to repeat every 20 seconds to a few minutes later. During the 60 minutes in which I drove to an RV dealership to have the problem looked at, on multiple occasions, I had no trailer brakes when braking, or had no trailer brakes until the trailer brakes suddenly connected at below the speed of 35 - 25 mph. Gm has acknowledged document 6420021 and bulletin #23-na-149 that this could happen when pulling a trailer with a battery, generator, or solar charger that has a higher state of charge than the vehicle battery. This is an extremely unsafe condition that could easily cause a rear-end accident or a jackknife condition of the vehicle/trailer combination. Gm has known about this issue since at least June of 2023, and as of September, they have an updated trailer brake controller that is supposed to correct this issue. There should be an immediate recall of the vehicles involved to have the trailer brake module replaced with the updated part.
I was driving and the transmission control module failed, putting the truck into limp mode with no prior warning. This was a hazard to myself and other drivers as it happened on a very busy road. I use this truck to pull our fifth wheel camper and luckily we were not pulling the camper at that time or this could’ve been a lot worse with the truck just stalling putting my families safety at risk and being broke down in the middle of nowhere. I took the truck to a repair shop in the city that I live in and it was confirmed that the tcm was bad. Tried to order a new tcm and they are back ordered for months and even over a year. Had to send it into a company in south carolina for repair of the tcm with a cost of approximately $1300. There are thousands of people with this issue, and this should’ve been addressed by gm and a recall sent out to the owners of the vehicles. After the truck went into limp mode, there was a error message but no other prior warning.

My 2007. 5 GMC duramax has been parked for 1 month, had to barrow a truck to go to work, just not willing to pay the 1600-4500 dollars that suppliers or private sellers are asking for the tcm, tried a private seller on ebay and it turned out to be a scam, local dealership has no clue on eta, I use my truck 6 days out of the week and now sitting not being moved may cause other issue when I do finally get it going again, the problem with my durumax is the tcm transmission control module, I was already at home when issue started.

Service trailer brake system warning will not stop dinging and alerting. This happens constantly with or without a trailer . I dismiss the alert and it continues to sound off. I have trouble thinking or talking. Very very distracting. Took my vehicle to the dealer and they did not know how to fix it.

Driving at 70mph, thread from tire blew. . That was in July, I went and purchased another tire from bob king GMC wilmington, nc. The first tire that blew was now discontinued so I purchased another good year . On Friday I noticed that another tire on my truck had a bubble along the threads again. It was also getting ready to blow like the first tire. I went to the dealer and they told me the tire I purchased (good year) was also discontinued. . . Please look into this matter. . They have faulty tires and this matter could have turned out with a death. . It isn't the dealers fault it is good year . . . . I have also read on line this isn't the first time people are complaining about the threads coming apart. . . .

Trailer brake system needs service, warning light came on and beeping loud starter last month 6-2023 , and maybe the brake control module is bad ? code c1117 came up.
The tcm failed while my husband was driving the pick up and this also set off the posi traction control and stabilization link. The truck has fluctuating shifting and could have cause a wreck if there had been someone behind him because the speed dropped on the tuck and it the transmission can't shift properly or consistently for safe driving. The part has been on nationwide backorder for over a year. . This truck can not function properly with out this part. Calling the dealership there are many vehicles affected with this problem and no estimates time of part arrival replacement. The dealership knew exactly what the problem was when called but didn't recommend dropping the truck off as there are no eta on replacement. Their recommendations is to research online to try to have the part repaired. No the part has not been inspected as it it unsafe to drive at the moment and there are no available replacement parts for the tcm at this time. The warning lights did not come on until the part failed to allow the transmission to shift. Per some people on a face book group this has apparently been a known issue with this part since 2011.
Rear sliding window leak and has saturated seat and carpet causing an unhealthy environment. Spoke with dealer and was told it is a design flaw and repairs are not covered under extended warranty. I was also told it is only a temporary fix and “ leak will reoccur”. I only realized of the problem when soap residue was seen on the inside of the widow. Dealer gave estimate of repair.
When towing a trailer a notice to service trailer brakes comes on and the trailer brakes are disabled.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v496000 (equipment); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
No incident as of yet. The wide angle driver mirror cannot be set high enough to see down the side of the truck. It is a factory installed towing mirror. I have to lower my my seat all of the way and I cannot see the top rail of the bed. The mirror won't let me see down the side of the truck which makes it really dangerous when I pull my 32' fifth wheel trailer. I took it to the dealer and they told me at first ( I purchased the truck on 01-22-2023) the mirror is one of 6 items that warranty doesn't cover. Then they told me it is very difficult to get the manufacturer to authorize replacement. The dealer eye balled a mirror just from standing in front of it on a lot truck and said he couldn't see a difference. All I can see out of it is basically is the rear tire. I called gm and the person looking into it was transferred after about a week. The person that took over asked me to give him a week to look into it. He called me today and said he hasn't had a chance yet that he needs a couple of more days.
