1 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

Vehicle caught on fire after pulling off the highway onto a busy city road. The cause was oil spilling onto the hot exhaust after catastrophic engine failure when the piston rods went through the side of the block. A bystander had a fire extinguisher and was able to put the fire out in the engine bay, after I was able to safely get out of the vehicle. The vehicle was a total loss according to our insurance company, but we have a claim on our record with insurance going up since gm would not cover the claim because the mileage was over 100,000 miles even though this oil consumption issue was present well before 100,000 miles. Sometime prior to this the dealer performed a piston rebuild for excessive oil consumption. After the repair the vehicle made a knocking noise on start up. The dealer passed this off and we were told not to worry about it. We pressed the issue a couple of times and the answer was the same, don't worry about it, it will go away. This is just unacceptable and dangerous to the owners of this engine.

2 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

It has a loud knocking sound which gets louder with the a c on.

3 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2011

I was driving my new 2011 Terrain I just brought in may 2011, when it started to idle roughly, the engine light came on and it cut off while at a stop light. I restarted the car and it begins to stall out and hesitate. It also started to make a rattling/ knocking sound when starting the car. It sounds like a diesel truck. I took it right to the dealer to find that there was a recall coming out 8/12 millage 5274. I then called general motors to report this problem which shouldnt have happened to brand new car. I didnt drive the car cause I was afraid of what might happen. I took it back to the service department who reset it on 8/15, which did not fix the problem. They fixed the recall parts, didnt fix the problem, took it back on 8/24 millage 5675, 9/2 millage 6353 for the same problems. I had to have it towed on 9/14 millage 7341 for the same issues that were never fixed. They continued to say the system is not reading any code and there is nothing they can do, they cant duplicate the problems,I had onstar run diagnostics and gave them the codes. To this day the problems have not been fixed and continue to exist. Gm still does not want to own up to the fact that they have mad a bad product, and dont realize that this is a safety problem that can cause a serious accident with this car hesitating and stalling out while your driving it. The rattling and knocking noise when starting the car who knows what that is? when you call gm to get then to fix this problem and if they cant fix the car, replace the car, or just buy it back, they try to offer you an inconvenience fee instead of owning up to the problem, which is their way of shutting you up. This is beyond the lemon law. Gm needs to take this serious and stop brushing this problem under the carpet. Report them to bbb and the attorneys generals office in your state they should not be allowed to get away with this.
