36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 06/18/2025

Throttle position system all of a sudden went bad. My 2017 Terrain started shaking. I was holding up traffic. The sun couldn't go over 5mph. I've read online where this is happening alot in 2010'2017 GMC Terrains.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/25/2025

5. 25. 2025 - car shut down while at a busy intersection. Called amherst police due to location and how dangerous the intersection was. Family member needed to jump start the vehicle. Vehicle started before police arrived. Drove home. Called police to let them know we were no longer at the busy intersection. 5. 26. 2025 took out battery to check charge at auto store - tested good - 82%. Re-installed battery went to get gas thinking that may be the issue, low on gas, not the case the car wouldn't start at the gas station. Family member needed to jump start the vehicle again. Drove home, called dealer, taking to dealer next week 6. 4. 2025 due to availability of service. There were no warning lights prior to stalling out both times. This is very dangerous. We are afraid to drive this GMC 2020 Terrain.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/20/2025

Driving on slightly uphill 55 mph highway, vehicle started jumping & losing engine power. Engine light came on, I made it to the top as it was slowing down. Pulled off to the side. Put it in park for a minute. Message showing on dash read - acceleration power reduced. Drove it on home (engine light stayed on) parked it & had it towed to dealership the next morning. Got a call from dealership the same afternoon saying the vehicle was ready to be picked up. Picked up later in evening from dealership. They left keys & paper in car for pick up. We still tend the paper left it in the box showing we picked it up. The vehicle drove good back home. Drove it the next day, as I was pulling out from a stop sign, it started jumping again for a few seconds. Got home & had my husband to drive it, as we were coming up a small hill, it started jumping & losing power again engine light was blinking at this point. Dash board read engine power reduced. My husband kept on the accelerater & when we got on top of the hill engine light went off & we drove it back to the dealership & left it to be checked again. They kept the vehicle for 7 days & said they were not able to find concern. We picked it up again. Drove it back home without any incident. It has been parked since we got it home.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/19/2025

Three times in one month, four months after purchasing vehicle from dealership, the vehicle stalls while driving and will not restart. After running codes, each instance prompted a p129f code for the fuel pump driver control module. After the second incident, the vehicle was inspected by a qualified repair shop and no issue or stored codes were found. When the issues occur and the car stalls, the check engine light and a low battery warning message can be seen on the instrument panel. When this issue occurs, the vehicle's gears cannot be shifted manually. The vehicle must be force shifted by hand, via transmission components under the hood, in order to place the car into neutral.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

While driving 40-45 mph the engine light came on and 50% loss of power was displayed on screen. Thankfully I wasn’t far from home and was in limp mode for the last 2 miles. The mileage of vehicle is 42,000 miles. The codes are reading low fuel pressure and faulty fuel pump. Any help would be appreciated as this shouldn’t be happening to this new of a vehicle.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

At stop light turning right, the car stalled, cut on and cut back off, cut on and back off with about 30 cars behind me. Sputtering. On the dash board it said “engine power reduced”. I had to be pushed out a main highway by police, and thankfully my 6 month old daughter wasn’t in the back seat. I have had this car 12 days with 48256 miles on it. I’m extremely concerned with the safety of this car. And when towed was leaking gas like fluid.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

Having problems with fuel system.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/12/2025

Vehicle stalled while stopped in middle lane during rush hour traffic. Vehicle would not start, and could not be put in neutral to be pushed to side of road. Vehicle was towed to repair shop where they needed to replace the fuel pump control module. The automotive repairmen stated they have seen this with multiple GMC vehicles and they do not understand how it has not been recalled yet because, as they stated, it is going to get someone killed one day.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/07/2025

1st time - rear main seal blew out & engine lost all of its oil causing rocker arm to break & chains to slip-vehicle sputtered & died while driving down busy street & would not restart - my safety & safety of others driving behind me were at risk for causing a rear end accident and/or pile up crash - no warning lights or sounds alerted me - dealership told us general motors is aware this is/has been a problem with 2017 Terrain vehicles especially those driven in midwest states due to colder temperatures - the intake manifold vent hole is not large enough to let air out, so it plugs up & causes pressure to blow out rear seal, which causes oil to leak out and engine dies. When replaced with a remanufactured engine intake manifold vent hole was not drilled out causing it to happen again 2nd time - when leaving parking spot at work noticed oil puddles underneath my vehicle, I checked my oil, it showed full, I was concerned, drove to nearby last place I got my oil change. They informed me that all the oil had leaked out and showed me the bottom of my vehicle oil covered the front to the back of my vehicle. They also said that I was extremely lucky to get to shop before engine blew and stopped dead. Again my safety and safety of others behind me could have been a rear end accident and/or car pileup crash - again no warning lights or sounds alerted me - shop personal told me general motors is aware this is/has been a problem with 2017 Terrain vehicles especially those driven in midwest states due to colder temperatures - even though the repairs where done by a certified dealership the first time they replaced with a remanufactured engine but failed to drill out the intake manifold vent hole bigger so this would not happen again but it did. General motors cannot just sell vehicles it has to stand behind what they sell which in my case they have not. Due to gm lack of concern, recalls, reimbursements, lives have been and continue to be at risk.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

Consumption of oil! I got my oil changed January 1, 2025. It is now February 1. I have driven less than 500 miles. I had no oil. I have no leaks or anything wrong. The car just consumes . I have had to have 6 oil changes in the past 3 months. Shop after shop. Has said it just consumes oil and this vehicle is trash. I noticed there was also a lawsuit against it. If you do not put a recall out on my vehicle ASAP, I am going to file a personal lawsuit and sue the hell out of you! for your scam! somebody better give me a call immediately. Or set me up at my local GMC dealer to fix this issue. I better be expecting a notice in my mailbox or an appointment for a free fix and this better be a recall immediately! or you’re asking for another lawsuit! I was told my car could blow up. With my kids and it could kill us! you better fix this immediately!!!!!!!.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/25/2025

This is the second time this occurred, once in oct 2024 and on 1/25/25. While driving the check engine light came on and within one minute the vehicle began to stall and within 20 second the engine shut off. The first time it happened in the middle of the road and the second time I was just able to turn onto a side street. In both cases the vehicle would not restart and left me stranded.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

Gm flier pip6071a - continued engine misfire/chugging/buck/skip under load, going up hills, trying to pass, etc. Was taken to shop January 2025 ~90,000 with these symptoms. Charged for spark plug replacement (visit 1). Taken back January 2026 ~150,000 miles, charged for ignition coil 1 and spark plugs. Immediately returned as problem persisted, spark plugs replaced (visit 3). February 6 2026, same problem as before, spark plugs replaced (visit 4). February 18 2026, currently in shop, problem persisting, trying to say it is the other 3 ignition coils, even after I requested they check O2 sensor and inspect catalytic converter.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 12/18/2024

Module malfunction open-fuel pump driver control. Engine stops at any time, pressing gas pedal and nothing, the engine stops running no warning. Module has been replaced twice this vehicle should be on recall. When it happens you have no warning and no control. This is life threatening.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/13/2024

Fuel indicator is reporting empty when car is full, and car is switching gears or shutting off by itself in the middle of driving.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/10/2024

My GMC Terrain 2022 has stopped working 3 times for the same issue. All those times the car was tow to the dealership to get repairs. Every time that happened was the same problem, I turn on the car and immediately shuts down. It didn’t show a warning light.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/09/2024

My check engine light came on and I got it hooked up to get the code of p0171 - upon checking it was different things like O2 sensor the mass airflow sensor, fuel pump issue etc. I have been having issues with slight hesitation during acceleration, some jerking when slowing down (not hitting the brakes). Now the check engine light was on for one day the next day it was off. I did some research and found an article that stated that gm is issuing a safety recall for 2021 and 2022 GMC Terrain due to a problem with the fuel pump module failing, not enough fuel to the engine and creating stalling risk. This was from January of 2023. It also said gm notified the national highway traffic safety administration of the upcoming recall on Jan 19th 2023 and was still pending as of Feb 2023. Also stated that gm has not yet conducted actual repairs to correct the issue. My truck, I bought it brand new on Jan 20th 2022, only 23,450 miles on it. The problem literally came out of no where a week ago. The hesitation, not being able to accelerate is very dangerous when I'm on the road, I could not get the check engine light checked out professionally because the next day it was off and I was informed that they could not do a proper diagnostic if there is no light on. Obviously there is an issue with the fuel system and I really want this checked out and possibly replaced. Not to mention my gas is also going very fast now.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/07/2024

Fuel pump power control module failure. Part number 13554821. On [xxx], my trip home from south carolina to alabama was interrupted when I stopped to get something to eat. The car would not start and I had to call aaa to tow me to superior GMC dealership in anniston, al. They knew what was wrong as soon as I told them it would not start. They already replaced three fuel pump control modules that day on the same model as mine. The service department said it was a persistent problem in GMC automobile's. I am [xxx] who had confidence enough in your automobile to take a trip by myself. I could have gotten stranded far away from home. I believe that this should be a recall because this is an ongoing issue with this model. I am sure that GMC is aware of this problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 09/25/2024

I purchased the car August 2024, I have had it for 4 months and while driving down the road a large fuel tank pops up stating low fuel and the car comes to an abrupt stop. The 3x the gas tank was never low. Parking brake comes on and car doesn't not move. All lights on dash come one. It has done it 4 times and thankful each time I was in a 30 mph zone. If I was going 55 I am sure the result would have been bad. The car last did it on December 29, 2024 and has been in the dealership for 3 weeks now and they cannot fix it. I told them 3 days into my purchase I wanted a full refund and they denied me. ?? I had that right I am still fighting with them to take it back because one of these times I am going to get in a bad accident. I don't feel safe in the car and I told them each time.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/17/2024

Bought new car August 16th 2024. Few days later, I was turning left at a light and the car lost power as I was turning and error messages came up on the dash screen saying service transmission. I also observed that the cars gear indicator went to park by itself even though the car was still moving. Pushed the engine start button and car came back on and I switched the gear to drive. Took car in on the 19th to get looked at. Week later, driving down the city street going 40-45 mph, car lost power again and car gear indicator switched to park again, service transmission indicator came up and low fuel indicator came up even though I had over 1/2 a tank left. Took in to dealership on August 26th, 2024. Over this weekend, my wife was driving home from up north at a very busy freeway intersection and the car lost power again and luckily she was able to get over to the shoulder. It took some time but she was able to get the car restarted and made it home. There is something seriously wrong with this particular vehicle where we do not want to even drive it. This car has less than 500 miles on it and has lost power three times in three weeks.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/08/2024

Hello. As I come to a complete stop the car will go into auto-stop. After releasing the brake pedal the car will jerk forward . As I press the gas pedal the car jerks and shakes . The rpm jumps way up and the mph say low. . There's been times I try to accelerate and the car with jerk and put itself into park. . In the middle of traffic. . Heart pounding to say the lease. I also notice theres alot of black liquid dripping for the front right side under the front bumper. There were no problems with the car or lamp indicating there were before this. I went to where I brought the car and they told me my warranty expired and that I will need to pay $265 just to diagnose the issue. I didnt have that money. I do have a car code reader and I did my best to find a solution. Codes p0700, p171d, and p187d all appear on my device. I then looked up recalls and my VIN wasn't confirmed. . But I am certain it is the same issue . You do have a open recall for this very particular issue for my particular model . I love my car and GMC. Please remedy this situation and have me driving safely and free minded again and soon ! please reach back with any feedback as soon as possible. Thanks !.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 07/25/2024

SUV gets a slow down warning and it stops shuts off , it’s happened several times now I’m scared!!you wait few minutes it turns back on , mechanic said this a complain about this vehicle all the time , it has not been repaired I’m disabled with no money , I was on the highway and thank god I was on the slow lane if not I would have been killed by an eighteen wheeler. GMC is waiting for someone to die and probably address this issue.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024 my 2020 GMC Terrain unexpectedly malfunctioned and failed to restart. The engine light came on and I attempted to restart it for nearly 2 hours with no success. Fortunately, it finally started and once I got it home my fiancé plugged the car up to the code reader. P129f “manufacturer control” were the results. After further researching, this is for the fuel pump/fuel pump control modular assembly. In January 2023, NHTSA released a notice for my exact vehicle for this very scenario I experienced. And as of June 6th, 2024 a class action lawsuit was filed against GMC for this issue as well. My vehicle is not able to be repaired due to 1) my VIN not being included on the recall list and 2) all the parts that were in inventory are also deemed unsafe due to the lawsuit documents shared online and this has caused a nationwide back order per my conversation with 3 GMC/chevy dealerships. At this point my vehicle is unreliable and unsafe to transport myself or my children.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/25/2024

The engine locked up due to oil leaking into it. This is a known issue with gm on these model cars but instead of issuing a recall they issued a special warranty that expired leaving consumers with these vehicles to be responsible for this repair which cost over $8,000.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/10/2024

While driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and would not accelerate. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder and turn the vehicle off. The engine would not turn over and the brake pedal locked into position, rendering the vehicle immobile. The check engine light also came on at this point. The vehicle was towed and ultimately repaired at the local GMC dealership, where the fuel pump was replaced. The 2022 GMC Terrain already has a recall in place due to the fuel pump module not providing sufficient fuel to the engine, resulting in an engine stall (23v013000), the effects of which sound very similar to what occurred. However, this vehicle’s VIN was not included in the recall. We are very lucky that this failure did not result in a crash, and that no further incident occurred while we were stranded on the side of the highway during the night, waiting for a tow.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/12/2024

Took vehicle into dealer for a recall on October 17, 2023 with the recall being [primary]: recall : c/s: n192268181 -tailpipe emissions - exhaust components: c/s: n192268181 -tailpipe emissions - exhaust components. The dealership did an excellent job on the work providing a video to show work being done. Now this month of April, I received another check engine light stating the p0013 code stands for “exhaust “b” camshaft position actuator circuit/open (bank 1). ” there is not a recall from the manufacturer but according to dealership they've received a bulletin in regards to this issue. According to the dealership it will cost in excess of $500 to repair. Absolutely not true. There are a thousand videos on what causes this and even how to repair it from the same mechanics that work within these dealerships. This issue is a safety issue because if not repaired it causes damage to your engine. This code lets you know that you will start experiencing loss of power, trouble starting your vehicle, the stalling/picking up speed all at the same time. Some of these issues have been caused from the issue of the oil consumption problem associated with the Terrain's.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/10/2024

Hello I'm writing this letter to inform you about my 2012 terrian I have had nothing but problems with the motor and now the muffler system I have had all recalls done on this and gm is well aware of this problem I have a dealer ship to replace the timing in this motor and still uses oil and still have all the problems after the recalls have been fixed now they want me to pay over $3,000 to have new catalytic converters fixed on it now after paying $2800 for a new timing seems to me gm likes to fix the cheap stuff on these cars and make customers pay for the expensive parts must people can't afford this and junk the vehicle I will not I'm going to fight for what is right the dealer ship even told me when I took it back in to see what the code was for that gm is well aware of it and not worth putting the money into the car this is not right for customers to spend this kind of money gm needs to handle this.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/06/2024

When refueling, and having the fill nozzle locked on for auto shutoff, the fuel overflows and drains out of the fuel fill cavity and drips on the right rear tire. This usually results in gasoline smell in the car. This happens on most fuel nozzles. I should have reported it years ago.

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/14/2024

My check engine light comes on intermittently, since March 2024, after having cabin & engine air filters replaced. Each time, I’m told it is code p0171. This has happened too many times for my comfort. Usually, it happens around the time my gas gets below 1/2 tank or after I fill up my gas tank. Originally, I was told by the mechanic that it could be one of four things, of which I’ve now had some of things done. Inin Aug. 2024, the check engine light came in. Code was p0171. Mechanic replaced the brake vacuum pump. Once incident, almost a month later, on 9/24/24, was very scary. While driving on the interstate, I got ready to increase my speed, but heard a pop sound and noticed the speed wouldn’t accelerate. Next, the check engine light came on and the message in the dash popped up saying “engine power reduced” or something similar. I was able to coast from the fast lane over to the slower lane and off the highway into a parking lot. I turned the truck off. When I crunk it back up an hour later, it was shaking and jerking. While slowly driving, on the way to the mechanic shop, it jerked and shook each time I tried to accelerate after stopping at a light or slowing down with traffic. The code again was p0171. According to the mechanic, the intake hose had popped off. On 11/13/24, the check engine light came on. I again took it to have the code scanned and truck looked at. Test results again showed p0171. This time the mass air flow sensor was suggested. In a year I’ve had the fuel system cleaned twice, brake system flushed, & other routine maintenance such as oil change & brakes. Yet, my check engine light seems to still come on intermittently atleast once monthly. It came on two days ago, 2/18/25, when my gas was around 1/4 tank full. I added a fuel system injector, per mechanic suggestion, and filled my tank up with gas on today, 2/20/25. The check engine light had gone off within about 15 mins of me driving. I’m certain it will be back on soon with the same code.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/21/2024

Rear main oil seal is faulty. It caused the vehicle to leak oil to the point where it was dry. This is a known issue with these vehicles and could have caused catastrophic damage to the engine. Additionally, this can cause the vehicle to stop running and/or catch fire.
