The contact owns a 2000 GMC Yukon. The contact experienced failures related to NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). : the contact stated the brake system failed when speed was reduced to 5 mph and the brake pedal vibrated badly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for service. The problem continued, so the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where the abs system was disconnected. The service dealer and manufacturer were notified. Updated 1/19/2007 -.

3 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2006

Brakes failed to stop properly, surging/intermittent pulsing and strange sounds. I thought this was a normal function for abs brakes. I tolerated and drove carefully for years. Now I find this is a symptom of a GMC recall problem 05v-379. Upon contacting GMC they say their computers need updating and it "may" be in for recall but the GMC does not have the correct parts now. Sounds like a major problem. I am worried about total failure and am registering a complaint. They daid that I could get it fixed now and then they "may" reimburse me later. I called the GMC number on their recall site, the site said my number "may" qualify for recall. I am confused and frustrated now that I know this is a big problem for other GMC products and can't get fixed.

4 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2000

While driving down a hill today ( I was using the gears so the brakes were not overheated). . . The brakes completely failed mometarily when I reached the bottom of the hill - I almost hit the car in front of me. When I tried the brakes again immediately thereafter (after going through the intersection) and they were perfectly fine.

5 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2000

Slowing to a stop on slight downhill grade, the brakes failed for appx 3-4 seconds. The brake pedal raised up towards me and couldn't stop the vehicle. This has happened at least 20 times(always on dry roads). It also occurs at slowing down speeds, if road is ever so slightly rough. * not overly bumpy !!.

6 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2000

Dt: the brake's abs system is malfunctioning. The brakes are not engaging properly at low and high speeds. The brakes have to be pumped a couple of times before you can come to a complete stop. The consumer has had the brakes replaced once. The dealer was the one to replace the brakes. The speeds are between 20-30, high 40-50 when you have to start pumping them. If you hit a bump at low speeds the brakes will push back up instead of down. The consumer has had this problem for 5 years. The dealer was informed that there was a problem on the vehicle. The consumer was in a minor accident because of the brake failure.
