1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2022

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that upon purchasing the vehicle from a towing company, the vehicle would not start. The battery was instantly replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle would wobble and shut off inadvertently while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the stabilizers and shocks were replaced. The independent mechanic then took the vehicle to an electrical failure specialist where it was diagnosed that the front end of the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. Additionally, the contact stated that a warning message stating that the air bags were not working was displayed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2020

Headlights as well as daytime running lights do not come on highbeams do however.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2018

The cluster from all the dashboard has stop working the speedometer the gauges everything.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2016

Speedometer and other instruments are inaccurately reading. Speedometer ranges from 25 - 70 mph overstated. Fuel gauge remains well in excess of full until about 7 gallons are left in tank. Oil pressure is registering well to the right of the highest reading. Problem began during cold temperature (around 10 degrees) and improves with temperature increases but has not resolved itself. Appears to be the same problem as gm special policy adjustment 07187a. The VIN is within the category listed by the policy; however, the vehicle is older than 10 years but fits within the mileage restrictions since the vehicle has less than 64,500 miles. This appears to be a known defect which clearly impacts safety. . Read more...

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2016

My vehicle, due to factory alarm system, is unsafe and unfit to drive -- a death trap on wheels. It turned the vehicle off, while driving, and locked me inside! I was thankfully driving down the FL keys, on a bridge but at the end of the bridge, so I was able to coast down and off the bridge to a shoulder. . . If it had died anywhere else on the bridge or on an flat road I may have been stuck there, blocking traffic at the minimum, in an accident and dead if rear-ended and pushed off bridge. . . Because the doors locked and I would have been unlikely to escape my sinking truck. . . To say nothing of the fall itself. If I had been going on the interstate and I was in a middle lane for example, I could have easily died because my truck suddenly stopped, without indication, and I got rear ended by any number of vehicles, including large semi trucks. If I had a dead keychain fob for the alarm, I would have been locked inside the truck as well -- because only the keychain was able to unlock the doors. If my phone had died or I had no signal, I would be trapped inside as well if and until help arrived unless I got desperate enough to smash out a window. All the mechanics I have taken it to have struggled to resolved the issue, but it is something the truck should have been recalled for and fixed for free by GMC -- a serious safety issue. I have researched and seen other similar trucks by GMC having the same problem with factory alarms and my mechanic says he has had 2 other, different makes/models, just arrive with nearly same problem, as if by fate and he is having trouble fixing those as well -- because its a factory embedded alarm problems. It remains unfixed to this day and I am not able to drive the vehicle until it is fixed.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Instrument cluster. Gauges randomly stick or falsely read to include speedometer. Sometimes it will stick at a random speed. Other times it will peg at its max. Unknown if odometer is involved. Sometimes they reset after repeated start/off cycles. Was covered under a gm recall bulletin 07187b, page 8. Current odometer is 145,369. Should gm not repair this after the warranted period? this is just as dangerous now than it was at 70,000 miles. Oil pressure gauge very rarely reads correctly. I trailer tow often and correct oil pressure is imperative as is a correct speedometer reading. On the top of the page I downloaded from NHTSA is the number csc-10026542-8984. Please note that this began two years ago with a faulty amp gauge but within the last several months it has now affected all gauges but the fuel gauge, water temp and transmission temp. Possibly related is the heated seat on the drivers side. The heat is on all the time (on hi) and can only be shut off by unplugging the seat which deactivates the air bag sensor, power seat control and the like. I have not contacted gm at this time. Please advise me as to my course of action.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Reduced engine power mode on hwy at 70 mph.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

While traveling to work my vehicles check engine light came on and the reduced power warning came on at which time I had complete loss of acceleration, complete loss of braking, and complete loss of steering power. I then had to coast to a stop and attempted to restart the vehicle 6 times before I was able to get the reduced power warning to go off and was able to drive although the check engine light stayed on. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me in 2 days with the loss of power. I have had the reduced power warning on numerous occasions years past but never have I lost total / absolute power to control the vehicle, this is a total death trap for anyone who has had this experience, especially on the freeway or highways at high speeds. I have read numerous accounts of this same issue affecting other GMC owners and have seen no resolutions or any recalls from GMC. I have already replaced the throttle housing and harness components, acceleration pedal sensor and yet the issue continues, someone is going to ( die ) because of GMC's lack of concern and responsibility to owners of their products. I will never ever own another GMC associated product.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

While sitting idle my vehicle suddenly went into reduced engine power mode. I was able to get over and pull off the road and shut off the car. 5 minutes later the car started like there was no problem. Over the next few days the rep warning would show up and my car would suddenly lose power. I was crossing the road during one incident. However, when I would shut off the car and restart the check engine light would go away as would the rep warning. After a quick review online it is easy to find hundreds of people who have a similar issue. Gm will only diagnose and if the light is off when you get there there is nothing for them to do except take your money and say good luck.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Losing power throughout my vehicle. Started with the overhead heating/cooling controls. Vehicle will lock itself without any keys when doors are shut. (it has locked me out on numerous occasions) worked its way back towards the rear losing overhead lights. Heater/ac does not work in the rear. Passenger side rear door window or seat belt does not work. Four wheel drive goes crazy. And now the main (front) heating and cooling controls are going ape sh!t crazy.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, she noticed that the speedometer and tachometer displayed an erroneous reading of zero. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. Updated 04/17/14 MA.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

Vehicle went into reduced engine power and stabiltrak warning light came on. Reduced speed from 60 to 10mph. Now occurs on a regular basis.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

I have heard of several accidents because of reduced engine power. It slows the vehicle down and people behind them rearended them because it is a sudden drop in speed and there is no time to slam on the brakes please get this fixed before a child is injured or killed thank you.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

Driving to work and "reduce engine power" came on. Engine stalled out and would not gain speed. I was in a lot of traffic when this happen and my vehicle cause a incident because of the sudden engine reduced all speed. GMC should do some research about this problem and inform the public of all the dangers these vehicles are causing for public transportation. This is ludicrous that GMC does not have these vehicle off he streets and destroyed knowing that they are putting people lives in danger. I will ever ever buy a GMC vehicle again.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon denali, it recently begin a skipping like motion on the speedometer. 16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

Driving on hwy going aprx 65mph. Vehicle said reduced engine power and started slowing down. I had to pull to side of the road. I managed not to be rear ended. This has happened often. It is a potentially life threatening situation. GMC know about this problem and how difficult it is to find the proper fix. Someone is going to die due to their lack of action. It's not safe.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2011

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the speedometer increased to an abnormal reading of 80 mph but the vehicle did not increase in speed. The failure and the current mileage was 62,295.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Hello, when im driving down the road the reduced engine light comes on. This is very dangerous since it also happens on the highway. When I shut the car off and let it sit for 3 or 4 min and restart it will happen again about 2 miles down the road. GMC says they know about the issue but they do not have a fix for it. I have taken it to several shops and they say that gm says the same thing ( we know about the issue but do not have a fix for it). There should be a recall on these vehicles do to this happening and could cause a major accident. There are alot of other ppl having this same issue. Thanks.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon xl k1500. The contact stated that the speedometer was reading inaccurately and remained stuck on a specific speed. She was unable to determine how fast or slow she was traveling. The failure occurred intermittently. In may 2011, the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and repaired. The dealer advised the contact that a special policy bulletin was issued; however, the vehicle mileage exceeded the limitations and did not perform any repairs. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. The current mileage was 141,000. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2011

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact became aware that the speedometer failed when cited by a police officer for speeding. The police officer advised that the contact was traveling 55 mph but the speedometer displayed that the vehicle was traveling 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the speedometer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but would not assist with the repair. The failure mileage was 119,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2010

Reduced engine speed warning light comes on and drops truck to an idle. I feel this is very dangerous in traffic and on highways. My mechanic has not been able to locate problem. All forums and online help has brought me to dead ends. This is my last resort, I believe gm knows what the problem is and am hoping they will do the right thing and recall before someone is seriously hurt or killed from this issue.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon denali. The contact stated that the instrument cluster gauges would either become stuck or would flicker back and forth between readings. Failure Date: 06/10/2010

2003 GMC Yukon xl. Truck shut off at 35 to 40 mileages an hour, brake light, abs and 4 wheel drive service came on the dash board. Its really dangerous due to I wasn't able to control the vehicle. It was very scary. I could it kill someone, fortunately no cars or people around me. I took it to a mechanic, so I drive it one more time. But it did the same thing all over again. I'm planning on towing it to the dealership. I hope hey can help me figure out what's wrong with it.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

June 8, 2010 all dash lights went out. The defective part was replaced in 2006 and has failed again.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

In late August 2009, the speedometer on our 2003 GMC Yukon xl stopped working. When reported to the dealer, his response was this is a common problem with GMC vehicles of this vintage and requires replacement of the instrument cluster. Cost to repair is $550. It is not safe to drive without a working speedometer, the dealer knows it is a common problem, but refuses to fix it.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2009

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon. After having a daytime running light burn out, I removed the lens and found significant charring of the light bulb socket. It was burnt so bad that it mostly crumbled as I tried to remove the old bulb. I took off the other side to check it, and the condition of the socket was the same. Thus, both the left and right daytime running light sockets were burnt. The excessive heat from the bulb also distorted and ruined both of my lenses on the vehicle. I took the car to the dealer for repair and the service technician reported that these cars have lots of problems with heat on these light sockets. I'm shocked by this, and wonder how many car fires have resulted from this problem.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2009

I own a 2003 GMC Yukon, last year the instrument dash cluster started to fail along with a continuous loud dinging from the warning bell and the air conditioning would stop working along with the windows powering off, shortly after I received a letter from GMC describing this exact defect, recently I contacted GMC regarding this issue and was greeted by a call center in the philippines, the man told me to take the car to a GMC dealership and they would take care of the issue, after I got the car to the dealership and started diagnostics I called back to let them know and they then informed me that I would have to pay for the service. I was outraged that they had actually pulled a bait and switch on a repair???, after being left on hold for over an hour while the "customer service rep" tried to find a supervisor so they could figure out what to do, he finally got back on the phone and said I would have to keep holding, I then demanded to speak to a GMC representative in the states, while on hold for another half hour he returned and said I would be contacted in 24 hours by a USA rep. After three hours waiting for my car it was finally released to me free of charge, ( for the diagnostics) but still not fixed. I received a call from an american GMC rep, a few days later and while they danced around the issue and who should fix it, they kept calling me back to see if I found a dealership to get the issue diagnosed, I tried two dealerships and both indicated they did not want to help, I am now stuck with what is a dangerous defect on my $30,000 dollar family car! I bought this car for it's safety and comfort and now I'm afraid for my family to ride in it, can't trade it in, can't sell it and no one will fix this re-call issue.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2008

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the speedometer is erratic and becomes stuck at different speeds. While driving 50 mph, the dial would drop down to 0 mph and displays inaccurate speeds. The contact received a recall notice (recall number 07187) from GMC, which stated that the recall was seven years or 70,000 miles. The vehicle currently has over 70,000 miles; however, no failures were occurring at the time the recall notice was received. The dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty for the repair. The failure mileage was 111,000.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2006

The speedometer incorrectly reads the speed of the vehicle. When the vehicle is traveling 20 mph, the speedometer registers 70mph. When the vehicle is sitting still the speedometer is on 35mph. Gm dealer thinks the problem is the gauge cluster and recommends it to be replaced at a cost of $400. This gauge cluster has been replaced in the past under warranty due to incorrect fuel levels.
