There is no warning code for the hydraulic brake booster when it starts to go bad that shows up on the abs/odb scanner. I had a panic stop while driving my SUV, and the brake pedal went to the floor, offering almost no braking ability. This caused me to sharply swerve around the car in front of me, drive through a red light at a busy intersection into oncoming traffic, and find a safe place to land. I had my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son with me, this could have been deadly.

Travelling on bqe 3 lane crowded highway in brooklyn when attempted to brake for exit and brake pedal went to floor - no brakes - I luckily was able to stop the vehicle on level road and avoided accident. 15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

I stopped to fill the Yukon up with gas. When I turned the truck back on and pulled out of the gas station I had no brakes. They went completely to the floor. Unfortunately a log truck was coming down the road and I rolled out in front of him. Thank goodness he was able to swerve around me. He left me a few hand signs to let me know he was not happy with me. While there was no accident caused, I could've been killed due to this! I am not happy to get on line and read this has been an existing problem with the 2003 GMC's. There needs to be a recall in regards to this. My Yukon has always been serviced, inspected and well kept. There was no indication this was going to happen. I literally just had no brakes.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

While driving posted speed on expressway vehicle suddenly shut off. Leaving no power steering no power brakes. I see many complaints on your website as well as online. Are you doing anything about this issue? it is the same issue that you are currently requiring gm to recall over 1 million vehicles for. Your current recall only goes back to the 2009 models. Why are you not requiring all gm vehicles recalled since 1996? they all have the same key lock system and same abs systems both of which seem to contribute to or cause the problem. If a vehicle is built with a safety hazard does the fact that it is older mean that it is no longer a manufacture's responsibility to repair it? since the government owns gm how are you affected in initiating a recall? the government does not allow other companies to police themselves, yet is that not what you are doing with gm?.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2012

I was driving on a 2 lane highway coming to an intersection to make a left turn. The left hand traffic signal arrow was green as I approach the light, approx 300 feet away the arrow light turn yellow, I took my foot off the accelerator to hit the breaks and they went to the floor, on coming traffic was still stopped when I realized I was not stopping and had to go through the red arrow light. I tried to use my emergency brake after making the turn on red, that brake also went to the floor but seem to slow me down enough so I could pull into a mall parking lot and hit the curb side to stop the vehicle completely.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon and the electronic brake control module (ecbm) has failed. The ecbm is the feature that controls the anti-lock brake system (abs) on cars and trucks. Without the ecbm working, a car/truck will not have abs braking, which is a safety hazard for stopping and braking, especially since all new cars have this feature and most people do not know how to drive otherwise. I did some internet research and this appears to be a very common problem with GMC and all general motors trucks from 2000 to 2003 and other model years. There are thousands of people out there who have had this ebcm fail on them. I took my truck to the dealership and they informed me that there are no recalls for this part and further that the replacement part is $1,000, excluding labor. This exorbitant charge is cost prohibitive to most people and is dangerous because it is a critical safety feature. I feel like this part should be recalled at no cost to consumers. This is a critical safety issue and it seems like it is a common problem, which makes me believe it is a factory defect.
